I'm home and banded!
Thanks Chuckles, my time here is just after 6pm in Sydney. Mum picked me up from the hospital, but seriously, there isn't much anyone can do for me. My puppies did notice that I wasn't well and gave me lots of hugs this afternoon. My husband is coming home soon. He took yesterday off work to take me in, but in hindsight, he would have been more help having today off work. We had a terrible thunderstorm this afternoon and as my DH works for the electrical company, he got caught up. We need the rain as we are in drought, so I'm not complaining.

I am banded!
Hey Jess, Yes, I"m really uncomfortable. When I stand up, I feel like I can't stand straight, I'm like an old lady. I did have a fleeting moment of "what the heck have I done" at 2am this morning, the realisation that this is forever hit me. Now, with a little sleep and some Digesic, I feel a lot more positive. I'm drinking "up and go" - you know the "weetbix" drinks? I've also tried peppermint tea, but it is revolting. Did take some DeGas, so hope it works. I'm at home on my own (hubby got caught up at work with a major storm), so I want to thank all my buddies on here, you are a godsend! Jen

Anniversary Time
Congratulations Sula. I hope I can post a similar post next year at this time, I'm 1 day post op. I've passed the "what on earth have I done" phase and looking forward to the coming year. Well done on your loss, I know it isn't easy. Jen

Where are my ?? going!
What's a Lucy and Ethel? By the way, I'm selling off my lost breast tissue, so if any of you wants any in the coming months, it's all yours! I wear in Australia an 18DD, not sure what size that is in US.

I was excited but nervous. Then, at 2am following my surgery, I was wondering what the hell I had done to myself and that it is forever. Luckily, that has passed for now and see it as a positive. Tomorrow will be better. Jen

Sorry I couldn't wish you guys luck any sooner, I had my day yesterday. Hope you are all comfortable and your surgery goes/went well (sorry, I just can't figure out the time difference!) Jen

I'm home and banded!
Hi Chuckles, 1 kg = 2.2 pound. So if you multiply 70 by 2.2 that will give you my goal in pounds. My surgeon thinks I can get to 65, but I don't remember being that weight! I thought about putting my ticker in pounds, it seems like a bigger amount when you lose! I didn't have a pre-op diet. My surgeon prescribes Optifast based on your waist measurement - lucky that is the smallest part of me! I am on 2 weeks of liquid diet - Soups (without lumps), optifast shakes, custard, yoghurt - anything that will go through a straw. It's not too bad, I just don't feel like it, but I'm pushing myself because I know I need the Fluid and energy. Hoping tomorrow is a better day, I've felt pretty miserable today, I'm at home on my own. Taking antibiotics and Digesic for pain relief. Not sure what brand name for Digesic is in US, but it has paracetamol and dextropropoxyphene in it.

I'm home and banded!
Hi all, I just got home this morning from my surgery yesterday (15th!). I've been pretty sore - kind of like I have done a million crunches. I went to the hospital at 7am and was taken to my room. I put my "special" gown on and my precious little hat and was taken to the theatre at about 9.15. My gorgeous anaesthetist put my IV in first go and gave me some sedation. That was the last thing I remember. I woke up back in my room, although a do remember snippets from recovery. I was in pain and had some pethidine. I was started on Water to sip, which I really didn't feel like, but I tried. I shared a room with another bandster who was feeling it a lot more than me. I've had a little sleep and feel a little better. The hospital experience was pretty good, I can't complain, although it felt like the longest night! Sipping lots, Jen

question about the steri strips....
Hi Cherrie, They should fall off on their own. I'm a nurse and can't see myself pulling them off in case I open up the wound before the strips are ready to come off. I'd call my Dr's rooms and ask. They should be coming off about now. Jen

can't throw up
Thanks Becky, I"m ready to leave the past behind me. Kathleen, I think when other bandsters get food stuck, which apparently causes immense pain, they drink some pineapple juice which helps it to move. Please tell me if I'm wrong guys!

January 15th bandsters
Hi Diane and Sandy, I'm not worried about excess skin, but my MIL doesn't mind reminding me. I know I will have excess skin under my arms and I will have to deal with that. If I have to have cosmetic surgery, so be it, at least I will be healthy and happy with being the girl I was in high school. I can't wait! Good luck Sandy, Jen

January 15th bandsters
Hi Diane, I'm also feeling a little nervous now. I'm starting to realise that this is a life-time commitment - I had my last toasted sandwich yesterday! I know I'll probably never tolerate one once I am banded, which isn't a bad thing! I have to stop reading the post op thread, it is making me more nervous - I realise everyone's recovery is different, but I just hope mine is easier than expected. I too am afraid of failing. This is my last chance to really change my life for good. My mother-in-law doesn't seem to approve of my choice, she has been making some strange comments like "you'll probably have to have cosmetic surgery to remove all your lose skin". Well, even if I dieted in the traditional sense, I'd still have to do that! Anyway, sorry for rambling, this thing has just heightened my emotional state and I'm feeling all emotions in a short period of time. I'm sure I will be fine, maybe a little paranoid! Good luck, keep us all posted, Jen

Anybody using a scar lotion?
Oh, forgot to add - happy to post some to you if you decide you want to try it. It's about $13 aussie dollars for a bottle. It smells nice too.

Anybody using a scar lotion?
Hi CN and Cgailee, In Australia we have a product called Bio Oil. It reduces stretch marks and minimises scars. YOu can't use it on broken skin and have to wait until the wound has healed, but it is good for lightening scars/stretchmarks. Would also be good to use to prevent stretchmarks if you were pregnant. Good luck finding a product, Jen

Tues. Jan 15, day after tomorrow, advise?
Hi Aprilbene, I"m also on the 15th and I have to fast from midnight, but allowed to eat whatever I want. I didn't have a pre-op diet, I was lucky. Good luck, Jen
