  1. Congrats back2reality! I'm 3 days postop and ready for the new me. I've lost 3 pounds since my surgery already! Hope your recovery is speedy! Jen
  2. Hi, I am a nurse and spoke with my anaesthetist pre-op. He said that the gas is absorbed back into the blood stream. He also said it takes 6-8 hours for that to happen - he was lying! I didn't get the shoulder pain, just under my ribs. Feels like it has gone now 3 days post op. Cheers
  3. Hi guys, I feel so much better today! My belly distension has gone down, I can move around much more easily and I LOVE coffee optifast! I'm sure I will get sick of it pretty quick, though. I think I just burp differently now. i've had a few small ones :tt1: I do feel a little dizzy though, I need to have more Fluid today, I struggled yesterday. For anyone thinking about having it done, or in the early stages of recovery, hang in there, it does get better!
  4. Well done gilliebean! You sound like you are having a great recovery. I was really sore on day 1 and 2, but today is much better. I'm also still having issues with gas, but it seems to be moving now! Keep in touch! Jen
  5. I never thought I would be jealous of people's burps! I would love to be able to burp - I'm 3 days post op and still feel gassy. Maybe I just haven't got the hang of new burping yet or maybe it will be better once I start solids. I always thought that burping after a meal was a compliment to the chef - at least that's what my grandma told me!
  6. I'm allowed full fluids and have been having thin soup, optifast shakes (loving the coffee one!), V8 juice (1 serve is equal to one serve of fruit and one serve of vegies), and of course water. I've been thinking about the ff and sf ice blocks, but haven't tried one yet.
  7. Oh my goodness, I'm glad you posted this one! I've only been banded for 2 days and I CAN'T burp. I used to burp non-stop, but now I just can't get the air out. I've tried DeGas (An aussie pill) but it hardly works. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to know!
  8. Congrats Jacole! May all your dreams come true and you have the wedding of your dreams!
  9. I was banded 1/15 and have 2 weeks off before going to work. I couldn't even think about going back to work in 3 days' time, I still have major pain with gas and feel a little out of it on fluids only.
  10. I'm on day 2 of my 2 week post op diet of full fluids. I had about 4oz (I had to convert it from mls) of V8 juice, 8oz optifast shake, 4oz of chicken soup and water. I'm supposed to drink 2 litres (67 oz) of fluid per day, which I am finding very difficult. I still have that bloated gas feeling, so I'm so not hungry!
  11. Hi, I live in Australia and don't think we have gas-x strips. You could try peppermint tea. I also have bad gas pains under my ribs - I am day 2 post op. I have trouble burping. I also have the occasional hiccup. I don't have any other suggestions, hope someone can suggest something you have in US. Jen
  12. Oh Dazzle, I know how disappointed I would have been to have my surgery postponed. My thoughts are with you and hope that you are banded next week. Jen
  13. Thanks for this post, it is inspiring and instills some hope. I'm on day2 of my post-op liquid diet and I'm really struggling to get enough fluid in. I still have bad gas pains under my ribs so don't really feel like drinking too much. I'm allowed to have shakes, so my optifast is my staple, along with water. Never thought I would be so keen to drink optifast!
  14. Hi, I just wanted to stop by and let you know that I am thinking of you. I am in Sydney Australia and probably can't help this far away, but wanted to let you know that you are in my prayers. Jen
  15. Thanks Dazzle. I seem to have a stuck feeling in the bottom of my throat. I'm assuming it's gas. I'm having trouble burping, which is a first for me. My wounds are itchy (I know that this happens when they are healing) and I'm starting to notice some bruising. I'm much more comfortable than last night and I'm looking forward to a full night's sleep. Going to have a coffee Optifast for dinner tonight - it's a new flavour in Australia, so hopefully it tastes nicer than the chocolate one! Jen
  16. Hi! Welcome to the boards and your new life! I'm 2 days post op and feeling ok. Everyone here is very friendly and helpful.
  17. I know what you mean about being unable to burp. I sooo need to do it, but it gets stuck. I also got the hiccups a few times.
  18. Well done guys, your new life is just waiting for you. Hope your pain gets better, I'm also still in pain 2 days out. Jen
  19. Hey pgirl, welcome! I was banded 2 days ago, so understand how you feel. You have so much support here that will help you, please stay around. Jen
  20. Congrats grayl, I know how you feel, tomorrow you will probably feel better. Your new life has begun!
  21. Oh forgot to add - the puppies were really good. Like they could sense that I was "fragile" and sat by my feet all night. They aren't big enough to jump on me, so I am lucky.
  22. I had a bad night last night. I think my antibiotic got stuck. I had some pineapple juice and it seemed to fix it! I did get to sleep for about 6 hours last night in my own bed, tolerated lying down pretty well. Have had some V8 juice for Breakfast (it is a juice drink that has one serve of fruit and one serve of vegies in one drink). Thinking about trying some thin Soup for lunch.
  23. I was sent home yesterday with keflex for 7 days for prevention of infection. However, when you actually do have an infection (i.e. not for preventative measures) it is really important to take the full course prescribed. If you only take a few days of antibiotics during illness, the bacteria can become resistant to the antibiotic, making it more difficult to treat. Cheers, Jen
  24. Hi, I was banded only 1 day ago, but my Surgeon suggested weetbix for breakfast. Initially I will have to make it sloppy, but then just add less milk.
