    Diabetes and the bypass

I've read a lot of post's were people's diabetes has gone after surgery, unfortunately for me it hasn't despite eating very little, the only thing is it is now manageable and stays under 10mml/l. I have had diabetes for over 18 years though, I have gone from needing 5 insulin injections a day to none and tablets too, to just the metformin 3 times a day. so that is a success to me, but I am disappointed that mine didn't go away like others on here. I forgot to add that I had the bypass.
  3. I experienced urge incontinence and after my RNY I have not had any problems, though this is a bit different than night time incontinence. you should ask your surgeon for advice.

Stall out on weight week 3-4

I lost very little in the first to second week it was very disappointing as some others that had surgery on the same day as me were cruising through it. I could not understand it I was sticking to my plan and doing everything right. Then I looked into it deeper and as a result of my diabetes it was causing me to try and maintain my weight with the carbs and sugar which was from the Protein shakes. Two days after I stopped the shakes and went on a no sugar low carb eating plan I lost 3 pounds that in it self says it all. since then in total for the past two and a half weeks I have lost 20 pounds

    I gained weight !

That is not good to hear, you deserve better than an ass like that. I've seen on this website time and time again when the scales start heading back up. And the key is to go back to basics remember when you started what you ate, what you drank, how much of everything you consumed. Hopefully things will kick in and you start to feel better.

    Weight gain

Congratulations on the weight loss well done. in all that you have been through it may be a time to look in to speaking to a professional to emotionally deal with thoughts and feelings about all that you have gone through, as you maybe eating for comfort again. I have found it cathartic to speak to my psychologist I was shy at first but I had a lot that I had bottled away and ignored with food. I wish you all the best and my thoughts are with you
  8. John I have said it to you before and I don't mind saying it again.. "YOU ARE AMAZING " Well done and congratulations.

    I gained weight !

I think that you have answered your own question in the last paragraph. you have lost two significant people in your life and need time to heal from that. And as with most overweight people we tend to eat our emotions. If you are struggling please go back to your nutritionist or dietician and get back on track. I would also suggest you see your psychologist to help deal with the emotions of bereavement and emotional eating.

    Feeling blue

@@bangbangbarbie what a great idea, Rona<3 we have all been on a downward spiral at some point mine has been the last two weeks. Why because I was doing everything right and not seeing any positive changes come from my hard work. I changed things up eliminated sugars, increased my Protein and try to have little carbs as possible and I have seen the scales move down and that has boosted me so much. Do you feel this is the same for you, after all the expense and missing food that you are not being rewarded by the scales to show for it?
  11. my surgeon informed me that I should expect to lose around 70% of my weight
  12. I didn't lose anything for two weeks post up, I was doing everything right and could not figure it out. Then I had a thought when I first got home I was on a clear broth diet and I lost weight the day I went on shakes and pureed diet I stalled. so I thought I will do the broth thing and you know what, in 5 days I lost 11 pounds. As I am a diabetic, all carbs and little sugar I was putting in my mouth with the shakes was putting my weight loss in jeopardy. so I am sticking to broth and seafood high in Protein and I feel great.

    Just sick and discouraged

I know how you feel, I'm 16 days and have been having huge buyers remorse I miss food like mad, I'm not losing weight, actually I fluctuate like crazy, and it's doing my head in. I have been sticking to the required meal plan, I think it may have put me into starvation mode, and on top of that I feel freezing cold all the time, where as before the surgery I always ran hot. And also my boobs are tender very very tender and have been for the past two weeks. I hate myself right now.

    Should I have this surgery?

I'm very early out 2 weeks and one thing I did not prepare myself for was the loss of food as my comfort, my friend ,my time killer, my enjoyment. I'd say I'm in a period of regret and mourning food badly. But I know it was/is for me health. I'm already of insulin so that is a huge milestone.
  16. Hi everyone, well my surgery was on the 20th may I healed well have been walking and doing the right thing. BUT... The scales have not moved my start weight was 139.9kg and surgery day weight was 131.1kg and as of today I'm 129kg but that fluctuated over the last week from 130-129-128-127 back to 129 I'm so dis heartened, I'm regretting this big time I miss food, I guess I could handle the mourning of food if I was losing but I'm not, any help, ideas, suggestions. Please god tell me I'm not the only one. I don't experience hunger either. Which is fine
  17. Hi everyone, I had my RNYGB on the 20th May and I'm only over a week out, but I have had these thoughts even before the surgery that what if this fails this is my last resort and knowing my luck I will be this one person in the world who doesn't lose weight from a weight loss surgery. I know I'm doing everything right and not "cheating" but I feel as though what if my surgeon made the pouch to big and I don't reach my goal. I know I have to give it time and be patient but I am a natural worrier and can't help but fall into the "what if's" I guess that comes from so many past failures. Another thing that I worry about is that compared to quiet a few people on here I seem to be able to eat a bit more than others. I guess I would just like some comfort in knowing some others had these feelings and fears.
  18. I guess one thing that I am grateful for is that I don't feel hungry.

    2 months post-op

Ahh Brenda, I feel for you I really do. I have had the rny and I am losing slowly compared to others on this site, in fact it bummed me out so much that I had to stay of the site for a few days because I felt like a failure. I think we are the tortoise and we are in this for the long haul and I believe after bawling my eyes out to my husband last night as he said to me "this is a marathon and you are in it for a long run give it time and do what you know your suppose to do". It sucks even more when you think I have been so good I haven't cheated, though I seem to be able to get in more fluids than others, is that the reason for slow weight loss. Though I still wish it would come of quicker , I've done everything I can all that is left is to do my exercise eat according to the recommendations and wait... wait...wait oh god the wait....
  20. Hi Carol, what great news, I am so happy for you and are even more excited that you are off your diabetes medication. Well done you!!
