caligul reacted to Stinasue in 9 Months Out, Never Felt Better!
I had Gastric Bypass done almost 3 weeks ago. I'm down 20 pounds. 35 since pre surgery diet. Everything has gone smoothly until the last couple days I'm like mourning the foods I used to love. I keep adding tiny bits of carbs into my diet when I know I shouldn't. I'm scared I'm doing poorly and just curious how everyone got over their food cravings and stayed positive?

Oh my goodness you think me being in orthopedics I would have remembered to properly stretch my feet before a heavy work out and avoid getting this. I got right into the work outs and had the problem from the get go. For the past two months those I get a water bottle fill it half way and freeze it and after my morning work out I roll my foot and heel over the frozen bottle to help ease the pain and get on with my day. SUPER important to stretch before a long work out and don't be barefoot until the pain subsides. A lot of people tend not to wear shoes at home I wear my all day except to shower and sleep basically. Good luck to anymore who is suffering from this. Never had it before surgery. Then again I wasn't working out or on my feet too much!

I eat out a lot because hubby likes to go out to eat. Since I began this journey I have lost about 59lbs. Hubby has been losing weight since I seriously began my journey in January 2015, when I weighed 282. I asked him shortly post-op how he felt about ordering a la carte or sharing. He is super cool about it and just Saturday night at Fridays he said you aren't suppose to drink while eating and I find that if I drink before I eat - I get full quicker. He gets a take home box as well. I finally weigh less than him after about 8 years. I couldn't imagine doing this without his support. We eat out 4-5 times a week.

Yes. Prior to surgery, Rocker Bottom shoes (like the skechers, but they're not the only ones) + Ibuprofen more than once per day. Post surgery (and 100# weight loss), I can wear whatever shoes I want. There are still mornings my feet hurt when I hit the floor, but if I wear the splints at night, they don't.
ETA: I've gone from a 9.5 W to a 7.5 W or an 8 M

Ohhhh I love the look of Dansko's I think I'm going to try them, as well. I really just want to go back to wearing my Doc Martens, but what's a punk rock girl to do with PF? lmao They really offer no support. I can wear them for a night out, but otherwise, it's me and my Crocs. I love that everyone has found different things that help. I love Birkenstock too, so I could totally see investing in a new pair, I haven't had a new pair since the 90's. LOL Ohhhhh that reminds me....
Are your feet shrinking?
Shoes I couldn't even wear before, I can now, because my edema is so much better, and I'm only down 63 lbs, I have plenty to go. I wonder if I'll be a whole different shoe size when I reach goal. Anyone else experience this?

I agree. ..I've had PF soo bad...went through therapy, cortisone shots, custom orthotics $500, medical crocs, and Birkenstocks....and I LIVE in my birkenstocks...the absolute best relief for PF....the best $100 investment EVER!!!

caligul reacted to SkinnyDown in I'm so sick of water
Sorry if I missed it, but I don't know if anyone addressed the real reason you aren't supposed to have carbonated drinks. It's not because you're going to get gas per se, it's because it will stretch your pouch. When your pouch gets stretched you will need more food to satisfy your hunger. That's why over time you could eat more and more. The more food you eat, and soda you drink, the bigger your stomach gets, the more food it takes to satiate you.
I'm with Djmohr on this one. Everyone should know the off limits food and beverages going into bariatric surgery, and if your bariatric center failed to tell you, they made a huge mistake.
I can't imagine drinking diet soda at this point, anyway. It has to be sickeningly sweet, like all other drinks I try with artificial sugar in them. Yuck.

caligul reacted to Jewelgirl04 in FINALLY found a way to break a stall!
I've been bouncing between 164 and 165 for the better part of a month now after steady weight loss since the dreaded stall for weeks 3-5. I knew for the 3-5 stall, I just had to play the waiting game because it's a result of introducing non-liquids back into your body.
I was researching on here what other people have done as far as nutrition and exercise changes and saw someone suggested to go back to a liquid diet for 2-3 days just to reset the body. So, considering that was a relatively easy solution I could try first without changing up my exercise routine and such, I gave it a shot. I stuck to Protein Shakes (RTD and recipes), having a little Soup here and there to give me a little of the salty flavor I was craving so I didn't stray to snacking on junk food.< /p>
After three days of the liquid diet, no only did I get down to 163.4, but then after a day of eating normal solids again, I dropped to 162.8! So I lost 2.2 lbs in 3 days after NOTHING for a month!
I'm sure that it won't work for everybody, but it might be worth a shot to try before you go revamping your whole exercise routine (or throw your scale against a wall). Let me know if this has worked for you!

I waitressed for 50 years and the last 10 I suffered from PF. I had to wear Birkenstock constantly. Except in bed and shower.
I had birkenstock inserts for my waitress shoes. I retired in Oct and hope the weight helps.

caligul got a reaction from nervous nana in 2 week liquid pre-op diet
I'LL be 7 days post op tomorrow. . And had to do the 2 week pre-op diet with Bariatric Advantage as well....it helped me to be on a eating schedule every 2/3 hours faithfully with the shakes..and adding fruit to them. I carried a cooler with me EVERYWHERE..bc I didn't want to be left with the temptation of a drive thru. It also helped me stay on track bc if ur liver is in the way. ..and I didn't shrink...my surgeon wasn't doing the surgery. And there was no way in hell I wanted to repeat the liquid diet.< /p>
Good luck...once you pass 7 days. .it gets easier.

They're my cracker replacement. LOL I love them with tuna or chicken salad. And 80 calories w/8 grams of Protein is a win in my book!

Which surgery did you have. I'm kind of at a similar place-- I'm 8 weeks out RNY, and am bored with eating/have no appetite.
Outside of eggs for Breakfast i'll eat turkey sausage, oatmeal or cold Cereal. I don't do the cereals often, but do have then occasionally in small amounts just to offer variety. I don't like yogurt so Breakfast get boring fast for me.
lunch I'll eat tuna fish over spinach, with a baby bell cheese; or sometimes I buy a grilled chicken/pepper/avocado wrap and just eat the insides of the wrap. lunch meat/cheese & tomato.Or a turkey burger w/cheese (no bun) and sliced peppers and Tomato on the side.
dinner I'll have whatever Protein I'm cooking for the family, pork chop, chicken, etc. I just usually leave out the starch (rice etc) from my plate. I'll also eat spaghetti [meat] sauce, w/ no Pasta, but add ricotta to it. Tonight I'm baking chicken fingers for dinner.
I don't snack much, but unsweetened apple sauce or canned peaches are my go to's. Hope that gives you some ideas.

caligul reacted to rebecca920 in Does anyone else have this problem?
Hi all. I am just over 4 weeks post op. I feel good however....when I drink fluids especially Water, I get a feeling of fullness then like air bubbles come up it only lasts a few minutes. I get a sort of nausea feeling. I'm noticing now too when I eat (I am on regular foods now). I know my body is changing and adjusting but I seriously want to gag when I drink anything. I can't stand the feeling I get. I don't notice it too much when I drink my Protein Shake because it is little thicker consistency. Does anyone have any similar issues and will this resolve eventually? Thanks!
