I have hypothyroidism, restless leg syndrome with periodic limb movement disorder, mild-moderate sleep apnea (but not bad enough for a CPAP), depression, mild stress incontinence (embarrassing to admit). I now have a pinched nerve in my lower back, which is made worse by my weight. I don't have high blood pressure or diabetes, or those more "serious" co-morbidites but had hoped that the numberous less serious ones added together might be enough for approval?

I finally got an answer from UHC. According to UHC my average BMI falls within 35-40, but my co-morbidities are insufficient. Approval has been denied. I imagine Dr. V will appeal? I'll ask Kim and let you know.

Saturday April 22nd?
I still have coffee/smoothies at Carolina Place Mall penciled in for Saturday if others can make it. What time? 10 a.m.? If we do this, I'll be bringing my Mom. Shoot, even if we Charlotte area LBT folks don't go I may drag my Mom off to Carolina Place.

My file is still "under review". I was so hopeful that it would be approved very quickly as others' with UHC through Wachovia have been. Wishful thinking I guess. I just hope this isn't a subtle indicator that it's going to be denied or otherwise delayed for additional information from Dr. V? I went back to my PCP yesterday. My right leg cramps are from a pinched nerve, which come to think of it makes sense. He gave me an anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxers. I was only suppose to fill the script for the muslce relaxers if the cramps weren't improving in about 3 days. Not having slept very good for months now, I filled them and took the maximum dose. I had to stay home from work today because I was too loopy to drive! It wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done. I have to say, I did sleep well. :uwelcome:

Getting Closer!
I've called, and called, and called. I keep getting "it's under review". :bored Boring! Oh well, it'll happen sooner or later ... or not?
-
Getting Closer!
Oh Kim, I never thought Dr. V would put a date that far out on anything, much less a holiday. It's probably UHC's standard procedure to put a date three months out to allow for pre-op tests? WavyDaby - nice answer! :Banane04: It's interesting to know that guinea pigs are "cavies".

Getting Closer!
Good morning folks! I did call again yesterday evening ... twice. As has been my history dealing with UHC, I haven't spoken to the same person twice, or have I gotten the same level of reply detail twice. They're back to telling me that it's "under review", and nothing else. :Banane04: Oh well, I'm still hanging in there!

Getting Closer!
I spoke with somone in Care Coordination at UHC again today. She said my file is in the final stage and could be finished today. She even encouraged me to call back later, and said I could reach someone as late as 9 p.m. EST. She also said once final a letter is immediately generated/mailed. Kim, Dr. V put a July 4th surgery date on my paperwork? The care coordinator at UHC moved the date up to Apr 26th because she said once finalized it could be moved back a lot easier than moved up. I won't miss church for this, but I might ditch out of choir practice a few minutes early! Say a prayer for me ladies! I might actually know something by this time tomorrow. :clap2:

Melissa, that dress is lovely. Yes, please take pictures. Angie, you never did say why the doc thought you were having that pain? Kim, if you get board when you finish Curtis' room, I have some closets I could use help with! OK, where is everyone else? ... and can I remember everyone's names? Jennifer, Stacy, Sherrie, Wavy? I know I'm missing people; who else? Come out, come out, wherever you are! John accidently splashed PCP pipe glue in his eye last night; so we spent our evening in the ER. He's going to be fine, but that's some heavy duty glue and burns like crazy. Fortunately, there were no scratches on the cornea, and it didn't stick his lids together. As for me, I'm going back to my PCP as soon as I can get an appointment. I'm having chronic leg cramps in my right leg, from my waist down to my ankle and just about every muscle. They started three months ago, and seem to be getting worse. I don't know if I have a Vitamin deficiency, if it's a really bad flair of my restless leg, or some weird medication interaction? Also, I talked to UHC yesterday. My file is still under review.

NC Intro Thread...
My name is Karen. I live in Belmont, which is southwest of Charlotte. I have been working on getting a band since Aug/Sept of last year. My paperwork has gone to the insurance, and I impatiently await a determination I am wife to John (second marriage for both), mother to Alyssa age 22 and mother-in-law to BJ age 26; no grand babies for a few more years. I work in a business unit finance area at Wachovia. Kim (gordonfamily3) and I used to work in the same accounting group before our division was sold. I miss you Kim!

Hey Angie, good to see you! Does the doc know what's causing the pain? I'd worry about that before I'd worry about a swift kick in the tush. Get better 1st and then worry about getting back on track. OK, I'll jump off my soap box now :scared: I'll try to catch you up real fast. We've talked about NJ batmizphas, wedding anniversaries, having a better month, booby lumps & mammograms, Curtis' 3rd Birthday, a social dress for Melissa's daughter, puppy dogs, and Jennifer's funk. OK ladies, did I miss anything?

I'm not big on sliver, but my daughter is. I'll send her the link! My SIL is going to hate me! :scared:

Wavy, calling every other day is what got me frustrated in the first place. I think it's time I step back and let Dr. V's office handle it. OBTW, what does "wavydaby" mean? ... and does "Crazy about cavies" mean you like spelunking? Inquiring minds want to know :scared:

We got another dog! :clap2: Merlin, our hare-lip border collie pouted for two days after my brother left and took his dog, Gracie, home. So I/we adopted another animal rescue dog. I think we might name him Max. He's about 7 months old and is some kind of collie mix. He's like Merlin's blonde counterpart. I think he will be about the same size as Merlin once he finishes growing.

Getting Closer!
Oh no Kim; I don't think it's anything you have or haven't done! I think it's UHC; I haven't talked to the same person twice. I'm just ready to let it ride and happen in His time, instead of being so impatient.

Getting Closer!
:faint: OK, I'm confused! I called again. I should have been more specific last week. Apparently the paperwork they received last week had something to do with the ultrasound I had done and not my surgery? Kim called yesterday and got a tracking number. I called again today, and again they told me they had no record of my predetermination paperwork. I didn't have the tracking number when I called today.

Happy April! John and I have our 9 year anniversary too; it's this Wednesday I had a great visit with my brother and nephew. We went to Carowinds on Friday, and I managed to waddle around the park and ride for 5 hours! John and I also got a little motorcycle ride in on Saturday. I admit to being a fair weather rider, and it was definitely fair on Saturday!

Saturday April 1rst...

1st Consultation w/Dr. Bauman over...
It may depend somewhat upon what time the surgery is scheduled. You have a barium swallow after surgery. If your surgery is early, you can have the swallow and go home. If your surgery is later, you may have to wait until the next day to have the swallow before you go home. Dr. V said he would do mine day surgery, that I'd be done and heading home around 6 p.m. the same day.

OK, so I called UHC. They have a reference number on the pre-determination, but no status yet. At least I know they have it! I also got the standard "it could be 30 days" disclaimer.

1st Consultation w/Dr. Bauman over...
I'm only guessing, but he may have figured you've already done your research or at very least been to an information session and didn't have any additional questions? ... especially in light of your pre-op stuff being nearly done?
