Hi I am 5 days post op today and I love to cook and find myself creating eatable liquid stuff
I bought the ninja thing and I'm using it for everything.
So far I have liquified avocado with cilantro, ricotta cheese olive oil and lime add Water for liquid consistency.
Tomato bisque: 1 tomato can, chopped onion, garlic, drizzle olive oil , I sauté garlic and onion in olive oil, tomatoes, added chicken broth, pinch of paprika and cayenne , salt & pepper a spoon of heavy cream and to the blender tasted like heaven
Tzatziki blended plain Chobani yogurt , with green house cucumber, dill, garlic Water for liquid consistency and salt it was fresh and yummy
Spanish gazpacho: blended seeded 3 fresh Roma tomatoes, 1 Clove of garlic, half seeded green house cucumber, 1/4 green bell pepper, olive oil drizzle, water and salt it was yum !
I also add to these mixes unflavored Protein powder so far so good!
I am a foodie all about the taste and texture, I'm giving up the texture for now and trying hard to not give up the flavors! Do you have any recipes that you can share?

Thank you for sharing! I guess after the Lapband the sleeve might be easier I'm used to throwing up everywhere and food getting stuck in my band all the time so I'm scared for the sleeve but reading here I think it's not worse than the band, I did loose weight with the band but I also got to know the toilets of every restaurant around!

Brigiter got a reaction from Chrystee in 5 days post op can't do all liquid diet. Anyone else do okay on soft foods?
Me neither I have no interest for solids none! I am 3 days post op and had sautéed broccoli with garlic and shallots, blended until broth consistency, I had avocado cream, that had cilantro, lime, shallot , blended with broth until broth consistency, I had gazpacho Soup, which consists in cucumber, olive oil, garlic, green bell pepper and Tomato, blended until it's broth consistency as well.
I am actually having fun with these recipes and very little makes me feel satisfied!
I actually don't care for solids at all!
Tomorrow trying roasted cauliflower with cumin and chicken broth! Blended until it's a broth!
I bought the ninja thing before surgery and I think was my best buy!!!

Hi, Im thrilled for finding this app, I did my Lapband 3 years ago it went great! Until 4 months ago I started having horrible reflux episodes while sleeping. About 6 events per night coughing terribly and I tried everything even sleeping in a seated position. So my Lapband had to be unfilled, my esophagus was swollen and dilated and dr does not recommend filling it again, in these months with my unfilled band I have gained 18 pounds. I'm still at this moment a low BMI patient but I'm going for the sleeve on May 5th. With Dr. Mark Pleatman in Michigan he is charging me $13200 I'm self pay, I feel so tempted in going to Mexico and pay half after reading great stories here but I don't think I can deal with such a huge change in my plans.
Has anyone had this experience? How is the sleeve on low BMI patients? I would appreciate to know about someone with similar experience

I felt the same way 8 days ago, I was convinced I would not survive, hug you kid and assure her you will be ok, both of you get into that God(mahoma, buda,Adoni) will be looking over you, and visualize you getting out of surgery perfectly fine, from that point have no doubt, it's not something you can control anyway, but you can bring the best of energies to it and let it go!

I had a band to sleeve revision on 4/30. I started my semi-soft foods today. It is nice to eat something. I can eat 1/4 cup and I'm full. Not that I get hungry anyway. It is just nice to taste something. In a week I can start on soft foods which includes eggs, ground meats, flaky fish, etc. I only had to do 2 days of Clear Liquids and then did full liquids until today. Odd how different each surgical group is with both pre and post diets. My surgeon told me at my two week check that I absolutely must eat six times a day. I read others are told only 3.

The way I know I am full is when I feel like the last bite I took is sort of sitting right below my collarbone and not moving. It's not a feeling of wanting to throw up or something being stuck, but I can just feel that I've reached capacity. As of today, I am just over six weeks out.

Interesting question. Not sure of the context of 'how much oz of liquid food' might mean. Of course, no drinking until 30 mins after feeding. Altho, its a mystery as to how Soups and such with a liquid broth differ from drinking - maybe the stomach processes differently than pure liquid on top of food (water and the like).
Most of the VSG materials say that once converting thru stages of Clear Liquids - Full Liquids - Puree - Soft Foods over the course of 1-4 weeks (depending on your Program/Doc/Nut) at the point you reach soft foods only eat a few bites and should be full. Thats the part that gets me >>> has never been my situation. Unless - and its my theory - that some of us have so-called 'iron stomachs' pre-op and maybe that extends post-op and why folks like me/you don't have sever restriction and consume more than expected, if we choose to. Perhaps the body is actually full at the 1-2 bites point, but we can just keep going with no real discomfort.
I will be seeing my NUT tomorrow (Friday 5/15) and plan to ask about this situation. Will come back and post another reply to share what I was told.
    Cheers!

For those of you that are very newly sleeved (still healing from surgery) you will likely not really feel full until you transition to solid food.
There is numbness from the nerves being cut, and also liquids will flow through reasonably quickly.
You will feel a big difference with solid food.

Hi I am new to the site and just got sleeved, I was banded 4 years ago. I am 8 days post op, I am having trouble understanding when my tummy is now full, I lost the full sensation that I knew, I don't really feel full any more like I used before, after more than 4 oz of food I feel pain and discomfort is this the new fullness sensation I should be waiting for?
Also I don't really feel hungry as I used too, I now know that I am hungry when I feel anxious, is it only me? Am I a weirdo?
I feel that I'm lost with this new tummy sensations so different than before

I was sleeved 10/28/2010. I was the first vbs in local hospital. All the reps and drs were watching. Talk about performance anxiety. Lol.
First day I was under heavy sedation. Since I was a guinie pig I a 3 day stay. Watched constantly. Liquid was crap but I felt with it. I figured it was better the. The weight. Pain was doable.
About 2 weeks out I was tired of liquids. I tried everything. I even did Jello and puddings. On my diet. But I craved. Real food. I found out that was because my BRAIN needed it not my body. So I kept on the liquid and semi solids.
When I finally hit stage 2 scrambled eggs is what I wanted. Yup I ate them. All 1 bite. Then immediately fell to the floor crying in pain. It hurt. But I could suck grape tomatoes (skinned and seeded them. And chewed lettuce. Which was a no no. But it helped.
5 years out I long for that liquid diet. So I re started my journey.
Be strong. It will get better. It's worth all the pain and the world does open up for you. Be patient and follow all rules and stay in a support group. Get plenty of Water and Protein. Plus Fiber and Vits. They help.
As for the chewing. I froze yes froze some Protein Jello or pudding with plastic spoons in the 2 to 4 oz dixi cups. Makes a great snack and helps with the chewing issue. Just be gentle with the pace you eat them.

SO GLAD YOU ASKED THIS QUESTION!
Before I sleeved, one of my problems was that I never felt full to the point that it was uncomfortable. It was never a feeling of being stuffed or feeling sick, I just sort of felt like I had eaten a lot and stopped. I honed this skill by eating at way too many Chinese Buffets (LOL!).
Post sleeve, my experience is same as yours. I can eat, say 3 oz of Roast Beef sliced Deli meat, and 2 slices of 2% american cheese. At only 4 weeks post-op, I should actually feel uncomfortably full after eating that, but I don't. I can stop, and may have a feeling of a little unsettling in my tummy, but its not a pressure that makes me feel like I will throw up.
Also, immediately after being sleeved, I could drink no problem. Heck, I could down 8 oz of Premier Protein drink in under 15 secs. Probably only 6 or so back-to-back swallows to finish it off. No discomfort. I soon figured out that was not good - in general sense, no problems for me - so I backed it off a bit. I still do only the 6 swallows to get it down, but space them out with maybe 30 secs in between. Taking 4-5 minutes to finish it off.
At my 1 week post-op, I discussed this with my NUT. The advise was to force myself to take (at least) 30 mins to eat my lunch & dinner meals. Of course chewing well and not swallowing any big chunks.
My 4 week post-op is in two days, I hope to get more advice on this topic. I am finding myself to be able - with no pain, discomfort, or spit/throw up ... to eat 3 or 4 oz of Protein and maybe 1/4 cup of veggies for dinner. I had been told this was what a sleever should be eating at 3-mos or 6-mos post-op.
Interested to hear from other sleeves with this same 'When am I full?' dilemma.

I miss biting and chewing and all that. I miss flavor! I refuse to eat anything before the surgeon ok's it. I see him in two days... Anybody else feeling this way?

I'm 2 weeks post op and I'm going crazy with the liquids. I had my week check up and a nutrition class and me and the other sleevers who had their surgery on the same day were totally deflated when the nutritionist told up that we couldn't advance to full liquids until June 9th!!! Our surgery was on April 27th. This is crazy. Everything that I have read on the internet and in blogs say otherwise. Has anyone else had to wait so long??
