miks got a reaction from newbeginning77 in Help
I'm 7 weeks today and have lost 18.5 lbs.
I feel quite disappointed as 11 of that was in the first week. I fear I won't lose very much despite exercising and eating my Protein and drinking my water! Sigh. Anyone get past this point with success later on or are we all just the ones who bring the average down?

miks reacted to rnsamantha in I have never been so excited to have mild sleep apnea!
I have completed my 6 months of supervised diet and exercise this month. I had a sleep study early April and was just informed the results show I have mild sleep apnea--not enough to typically qualify for CPAP, but hopefully enough that my insurance considers it a comorbidity! My insurance requires a BMI of 40+ without comorbidities and 35+ with. I am sitting at 39.9, and have no comorbidities (before these results). My insurance lists sleep apnea as one of the qualifying comorbidities. I am hoping to submit to insurance within the next week and that this will help me get approved quickly!!!

Out of curiosity, why are you "worried" about losing weight slowly? When I first had the surgery, I too felt the urgency to lose the weight fast, but when I realized I was going to be a slow loser, I reexamined my thought process. I realized that sense of urgency came from my old diet mentality. In the past, on diets, I always wanted to lose weight quickly so I would be "done". But, I'll never be "done" with my sleeve. It's for life! So it doesn't matter how long it takes me to lose the weight as long as I am losing and not gaining. Ten years from now, when I am enjoying my happy, healthy, full life thanks to my sleeve, do you think I'm really going to care whether it took 6 months or 16 months to reach my goal weight?

    Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!! I came on here today to post asking about this!!! You're not going to beleive the similarity in our stories;
Sleeved may 12th on self pay also!
    Week 1: lost 8lbs
    Week 2: lost nothing!
Week 3: lost nothing! (Actually gained 2.5 and lost that but that doesn't really count overall)
Wow it's so nice to feel like I'm not the only one!
I was eating about 400-500 cals and now am up to 700-800, which helped me Lose the 2.5 gain! I get my 2 liters (67oz) and walk about 2-3 miles a day. Maybe it's just how we're made?? I don't know I just feel some relief seeing your post

I had my sleeve on 12 May and exactly the same thing has happened to me!
    Week 1 lost 8lb
    Week 2 nothing
    Week 3 nothing!
Very very disheartening but apparently it's your liver hanging onto every bit of glycogen it can. Our weight loss WILL start up again.
    (I hope!)

I had surgery May 11th 2015 so I am 3 weeks post-op and so far this has been my weight loss...
    Week 1: 5 lbs
    Week 2: Nothing
    Week 3: Nothing AGAIN
I'm beginning to think I'm not doing something right...
I'm getting in almost 64 oz of Fluid, probably 50 every day.
I'm eating about 800 calories a day to get in my 60 grams of Protein. (Is that too much for this early on? Should I cut back on real food and supplement with more shakes? )
I am walking about .5 to 1.5 miles a day. (Is this too little? Should I be pushing myself to maybe walk 5 miles since I am unemployed right now and don't get much activity beyond my walks?)
I'm just feeling really down in the dumps... I thought after I paid all that money (self pay), went through all that pain and discomfort in the hospital, and followed the rules that life would reward me! And so far I just feel like crap. 23 pounds total with pre-op is amazing, but I thought I would be down at least 8-10 more pounds by now! F :ock!

It is very normal to pause in your losing in about weeks 2 - 4. That's just the way the body works. It will pick up again as long as you are following your plan. If you are following your plan, just relax, stay away from the scale, and focus on adjusting to your new life. Here's a timely post from Alex:

    Congratulations on your weight loss!!
I know exactly how exciting it feels to lose weight, only to be disappointed about all the loose hanging skin.
Plastic surgery was definitely the next step for me. Scaring and artistic body results were my biggest concerns as well. I also wanted a caring surgeon with tons of experience. My results were beautiful and done by Dr Victor Gutierrez. He is on RealSelf.com. His reviews speaks volumes about his work and skill as a doctor.
Also look at the before pictures on RealSelf.com. (Under search, type the doctors name)
Here are my before and after pictures.

Surgery was May 19 of 2014. I'm down over 120 pounds and loving life! I followed the rules exactly for the first 5 months. Ate what I was told to eat, walked each day, ect. Now I'm a little more relaxed with the rules. I still go to the gym a few times a week and eat small portions and try to get a lot of Protein but I'll have a beer once in a while and I do eat carbs.
This has been a long hard journey but I can't even put into words how much surgery has changed my life for the better. I can't wait to see what's in store for my future.
