TMG1980TMG reacted to Mrs.Hansen88 in 4 1/2 mths post op- HALLOWEEN! :-) PICS!
So I am coming up on five months post-op now... (Surgery date June 10th) I had VSG done and I have never been happier. I have had ZERO complications, no throwing up, now problems drinking fluids, no adverse reactions to any type of foods (except of course anything with too high fat or sugar), and I just broke through today a seven week stall I have been in!!!
This past weekend we had a halloween party and for the first time in my life I was able to buy a costume that wasn't PLUS SIZE and it felt great! :-) I'm just not used to buying size medium anything still! So here's some before and afters.. For the first time in my life I actually felt like a pretty girl at the party instead of hiding in the crowd!
    Starting weight: 262
    Surgery weight: 224.9
    Current weight: 168
    Height: 5'5"
    Pants starting: 22
    Shirts starting: 2XL/3XL
    Pants current: 8
    Shirts current: M/L

You've clearly been through the wringer.
What a tough year....now everything is falling on your shoulders......AND you are recovering from surgery.
All you can do is your best.
Maybe there is a way you can blow off some steam every day.....every day. An hour of your own to go power walk around the block. An hour of vigorous walking can be a pressure relief valve and maybe help with the frustration.
I'm very sorry and wish you the best.

Yesterday, I stepped on the scale and was slightly chagrined to find that I was still 1 pound away from a big milestone, as I had been for the past almost 2 weeks. Today I woke up and I lost two pounds overnight, which officially puts me 101 pounds less than my heaviest weight ever, which was around this time last year. It's a surreal feeling, mainly because I still have such a looong way to go, and I can hardly remember what it felt like to be a hundred pounds heavier than this. This time last year, I felt hopeless, worthless, and like I would never feel good about myself again. I was prepared, at age 22, to die young and humiliated because I felt like I had no control over my body whatsoever. I was seeing a nutritionist and a PCOS specialist and they were at a loss for how to help me. Now, 1 year later, 101 pounds are simply... gone. What an amazing life this is!
I'm so grateful to everyone here for being so kind and supportive. It wasn't long ago that I didn't even dare to dream that I could get better AND that I could have a whole huge support group to help me along the way. You guys and this site are just as important and helpful to me as my support group, bariatric center, and my kickass surgeon.
In the attached pictures, the first one is the only picture I could find of myself before I lost any significant amount of weight (that's my monkey of a little cousin demonstrating that he is a monkey, haha) and the second two I took just now.
    Thank you.

I also think you are very brave and intelligent. First, for speaking out about your struggles and for seeking treatment. These are actions of a survivor.

I really like the fair life milk- it had 19g of Protein in 8oz (I think, not looking at the bottle) I can make a smaller drink with lots of Protein.
Non-dairy I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk. This is yummy, but no added bonus of extra protein!

TMG1980TMG reacted to Babbs in Stalls
Stalls are normal 2-4 weeks after surgery. They happen to almost EVERYONE, and there really is not much you can do about the first one but ride it out. Consequent stalls, on the other hand, should be dealt with a little differently than this first one. This first one is normal and almost NEEDS to happen. Here's why:
A "stall" a few weeks after surgery is not uncommon, and here's why.
Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs. of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when a patient is not getting in enough food, the body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. Then when 2 lbs. of glycogen is used a patient will also lose 8 lbs. of Water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs. that most people lose in the first week of a diet.
However, when the body stays in a caloric deficit state the body starts to realize that this is not a short-term problem. Then the body starts mobilizing fat from adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But the body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. As it puts back the 2 lbs. of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs. of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though the patient might still be losing energy content to their body, the weight will not go down or it might even gain for a while as the retention of water dissolves the glycogen that is being reformed and stored.

Yeah! That went so much better than last week when I tried to advance to fish! ????????????

Ugh...I'm sorry you've had so many complications, but I agree, everything happens for a reason.
That said, those of us who have had surgery ALSO lost the weight ourselves. I can guarantee you that no one did it for me. I am sure you aren't implying that this is the easy/cheater/quick fix way to do things. I fought for every pound lost and I am mindful for every ounce regained.

Regardless of whether you've had WLS, you are still "losing the weight yourself." WLS is simply a tool to help you get there, not something that does all of the work for you.

Sounds like you are doing great! I had surgery 10/22 and I am down 34 total including pre op diet weight loss. My doctor doesn't advance people from the broth/cream of wheat type stuff until 6 weeks. I am so ready for some veggies and meat.
