Dr. Boone is my surgeon. He’s pretty great. They have changed the requirements since my surgery. From consult to surgery was about 4 months. David is awesome for the psych visits. I have continued to see him over the years. Fresno Heart is the Ritz Carlton of hospitals with the best nurses. I have zero regrets having the sleeve. You adjust to your tiny tummy and I did follow ALL instructions and restrictions. The Protein, Water intake, and supplements are a must for life.

I’m 51/2 years out and have only just checked in today after about 8months.
Struggling with a 15lbs increase not a huge amount but definitely over my danger weight of 143lbs. My vanity goal weight has always been 132lbs which I have probably only achieved a handful of times, generally just before we go on holidays. So that I give myself some wiggle room for a bit of relaxed eating which I tend to do when on holidays.
I try never to let myself go above 143lbs as a rule. I can usually get back on track just by being mindful of what I’m eating and logging all my food into my fitness pal but struggling this time around.
I have only ever stuck to the rule of walking 10,000 steps a day and haven’t really added any extra exercise at any point. I started out at 253lbs and reached goal in the first 12 months. So I’m very grateful for where I am but know that once you cross your own danger line things can spiral out of control very quickly.
About 12months ago I was struggling and tried IF and started to look at Keto but life got in the way and everyone and everything in my life became more important than me.
I think I just answered my own question, Gastric Sleeve is a jealous beast and doesn’t like to be ignored. I think if we ignore the rules she set out when we started this journey she will make us pay lol.
Good Luck everyone this isn’t a one size fits all. I know coming back to this site gets my head in the right place and makes me focus on myself. Which I think in my case is a rule I can’t forget or I pay the price.
I’m interested in how others are going this far out.

I don't think there's many nutritionists out there who will ever tell you it's "good" or "permissible" on their plan and if they did, I would be a bit concerned of that by itself, since it's nothing more than poison in a can (my opinion).
Having said that, I don't think anything is a "must stay away from forever" for reasons of possible complications more than for reasons of health. It's simply unhealthy and I think that's the biggest reason to stay away from it, but obviously in time your ability to drink it will depend on your specific situation and sleeve reaction.
I think in the beginning, when you're still healing, there are a lot of people who experience pain or discomfort because of the carbonation. That gas can cause pressure in your new sleeve which can certainly be painful. As far as sugar is concerned, any sugar in liquid form can cause some discomfort, or even symptoms that mimic "dumping syndrome" common in bypass patients.
Do I think some soda now and again down the road is the worst thing in the world? No. Of course not. But knowing my personality, I think if I even let it in a little, then I'll justify a little more....then a little more....then other things, and I just don't want to go down that path.
What I (my opinion only) do think is important is that you use the time post-op (especially the first year) to re-train yourself on healthy eating and making better food choices. That's what I've chosen to do and, unfortunately, soda (regular, diet or other), doesn't fit into that plan.
    Best of luck!

auntiem0502 got a reaction from 24601 in Tired of discussing my weight with people
Yes!! With certain people who repeatedly ask "what are you eating", wanting to follow what I do to lose naturally. I'm missing 85% of my stomach, of course I eat a lot less. It's exhausting to discuss meal plans when I'm usually switching it up for my own stability. I do have a friend having a sleeve in August so I'll definitely help and suggest things to her. I'm a little over a year out. I have no regrets of doing the surgery, it is work, but I'm healthy, and would like to talk about a lot of other topics. [emoji5]

Ok, A better woman would not say this, but a better woman isn't typing this...I am
So here it goes. I'm going out on a limb alone here. You owe your sister absolutely NOTHING. You do not owe her an explanation of how hard you have worked and will ALWAYS need to work, nor do you owe her an explanation that WLS was in no way an easy way out. You owe her nothing at all...you do not have to, nor should you feel like you are obligated to defend yourself to her or anyone else. You do not even owe her the explanation and facts about surgery.
Now what does she owe you? The same, nothing. When we disclose personal things to people, we are always taking a chance that the other person will be a big blabber mouth and even worse an asshole.
If you value your relationship with her, I suggest you tell her when others ask how you did it, to simply say. "You will have to ask her." Nothing more nothing less. If she doesn't abide by your request and suggestion, then, I would tell her, I will never confide in you again. Now, I also understand that we all typically care about our siblings and family and we want them on our side...so I can certainly see the point of all the others posts with very valuable suggestions. It just really pisses me off when people who think they know anything open their mouths....I don't even know where to begin with her asininity.

Lordy - I could've written this post! I am throwing away the hidden stash of Halloween junk from the desk drawer as we speak. I am going to detox from my weeks of sugar blasting starting now. It's hard to kick this addiction - I do really well for a time but then it just takes a little bit of the sweet stuff to throw me into a tailspin and I'm on a sugar binge for days. But this time I'll be honest I've been eating so much crap for the last couple months - it's no wonder I can't get the last 13 pounds off! Even exercising it isn't budging! So I am cutting the sugar out too! Back to basics! Thanks for giving me boost to get back in the swing of things! (and for giving me a giggle too)

    Okay really, all kidding aside...
No, you won't stretch your sleeve, but you can see how easily it would be to eat around it. Get yourself back on track with Protein and veggies, limit your sugar and your cravings will subside to where you feel you're back in control again by keeping your tummy full with protien and fluids. That's really the trick.
It happens to all of us. You just gotta get right back on track and move forward!

    Okay....so you blew it bigtime.
You went on a garbage food binge.
    Why?
Why did you sabotage your progress?
Figuring out the why is what I'd be concerned about at this point.
Remember the psyche eval that was part of your checklist items? Maybe there were pre-eval videos you were required to watch....tests to take.....homework to do where you formulated how you were making this YOUR plan. Perhaps you can go back to those and get back in touch with your pre-op self and figure out why you'd sabotage things at this point.
Maybe another visit with a psychiatrist will be beneficial.....or a series of visits.
Maybe you have some type of counseling available through your employee benefits package.
Halloween has passed.....but here comes Thanksgiving and Christmas......times when many folks just pile on the pounds without stopping......then find themselves on January 1st......hoping for control to magically come their way.
Get in charge of yourself asap and solve the "why?" riddle.
Nobody with any sense said this was going to be an easy path to follow.............BUT.......there is a reason you initially chose to go down it. Get back in touch with those reasons.

Are you on a PPI to help manage the acid? If so then hopefully it's all easy from here on out. Just make sure to take the meds regularly since they need time to get in your system in order to work properly. Otherwise, just focus on sipping fluids and Protein and walking. It really does get better. A year out I am pleased as punch as the results.

Thank you for posting this. I was sleeved March 6, and I am starting to feel hunger more frequently. It doesn't feel like brain hunger but I'm going to fight it and exercise more. My nutritionist gave me some guidelines recently that may help. 3 meals and 1 snack, 2 if I get to the gym 4-5 days a week. Best wishes to all of you sleevers. Keep up the hard work.

That's often an ongoing process. I liked myself just as much when I was 90lbs heavier as I do now. I think it's a mental issue. For some people it comes when they can shop straight sizes or not have to go to plus size stores, and for others it never come.

My Dr. said no alcohol ever. As unreasonable as it sounds, it's to avoid drinking your calories and my Nutrition Class talked about cross-addiction with alcohol. The strict no-no's were no alcohol, gum and soda. Not fun but it's for a reason. They want us having Protein first, then veggies, fruit and if there's room for carbs they are last.

Fage 0% plain has the best Protein. It's a little sour, I never added anything to it. I could only eat half the serving per my 3 oz portion limit, but that had 9 g still. I also love Trader Joe's Greek Pomegranate, there's no fruit pieces, it's fat free and tasty ????
