I cant wrap my head around the positives of this surgery, i had my 1st minor complication, gerd reaction which was horrible.now i have no desire to eat or drink but i have to force myself..soo hard????..im reading stories ans blogs non stop abt when the honey moon phase is over and im putting thr cart before the horse thinking aboit failure and im only 3weeks out. ..what did i get myself into

Regret is normal when you are this soon post op, especially if you've experienced complications, and not having the desire to eat or drink is also normal. But you have to make yourself at least get in fluids and try to get in Protein.

It will get better. You will begin to see the weight come off and you'll realize why you had this surgery to begin with. But you need to put your health first from now on. You won't be hungry so plan your meals and fluids. Set a timer. If you don't you will cause more complications down the road.

Try to stay positive. Go for a walk. Drink some herbal tea. There's no going back. The only way is forward so make the most of it and give yourself the best shot you have at success.

I'm 6 weeks out it does get better. I still have issues with getting in protein. Although, it's getting better and water is a work in progress. I didn't eat or drink that much at 3weeks out I had complications too. But I feel better now. I did popsicles,and soup...

And for some strange reason coloring helped keep my mind off things.

You will feel better I promise. This will pass.

I am having the same problem.. it's pretty overwhelming & I am not exactly sure why I am feeling like this... It's super frustrating, but there is nothing to do at this point but embrace the change and hope things will get better soon. Part of me wishes I got Lap-band or something reversible.. but I hope that my mindset will change soon.. it's tough

Are you on a PPI to help manage the acid? If so then hopefully it's all easy from here on out. Just make sure to take the meds regularly since they need time to get in your system in order to work properly. Otherwise, just focus on sipping fluids and protein and walking. It really does get better. A year out I am pleased as punch as the results.

First, if you are suffering from GERD see your surgeon / doctor immediately about getting a stronger antacid -- probably a proton pump inhibitor like protonix.

Second, if you guys don't know what to eat / drink right now ... why not? Were you sleeved in Mexico? If not and you were sleeved in the US and have access to a nutritionist, a bariatric physician's assistant or RN, call them ASAP.

If you were given educational materials or attended classes about what to eat / drink, find those materials and review them. If you can't find them, call your surgeon's office and ask for another set of those materials. Consider re-attending those classes.

And yes, stevia will work fine to sweeten your teas.

I am experiencing the same feelings. I am filled with regret and can't see the positives to come down the road. Hopefully it gets better.

Wish I could give you a hug and say keep hope alive! I am 5 weeks out and everyday is a little better than the day before. I believe it will also get better for you.

Your brain has to catch up to the fact your stomach isn't what it used to be. I'm two weeks post-op today, and I was hungry from day 3. Caught me totally off-guard. I thought the hunger pains were supposed to vanish for awhile!! Crap!! So I struggled with that for a few days and found a forum in here regarding that issue. Your brain has to catch up with the surgery and get used to the new you. It still doesn't realize things aren't the same. If I had been told that in the first place, I would have been prepared and realized what it was. My friend, who had a gastric by-pass, said she called it "phantom hunger", and she just ignored it and ate at certain times to stay on schedule and pretty soon the brain got with the program. I found my "tilt" level, that was interesting. I'm still excited about what I have done, and I can't wait to see what I'll be like a month from now. Hang in there! It'll get better!!

I know what to eat, i cant eat..everything makes me nauseous , and i have been taking the pills for that.it only happened after thr gerd episode and i have my ppi that part is getting better.

Give the meds time to kick in. If you still have the nausea, call your doctor and get something stronger. Unfortunately some folks have a tougher time of it than others. Hopefully you'll find the right balance of meds to make you comfortable. In the meantime try to get in as much fluids and Protein as possible. It really does help with the healing.

I didn't want anything to do with eating or drinking after surgery and ended my butt back in the hospital for 3 days for severe dehydration. So even though you don't want to, even though you would rather do ANYTHING else - sip, sip, sip. I downloaded an app on my phone that buzzed every 7 minutes to remind me to sip my Water so I wouldn't have to go back to the hospital. Please sip.

The reason you feel like this has a lot to do with the hormone dump you are experiencing. Your fat stores a lot of hormones and when you start to drastically lose it (such as in ketosis) those hormones are set free in your body and you go a little haywire . It will eventually calm down and you will start to feel better. I wish someone would have let me know about this prior to surgery so I would have been better prepared, but such is life.

I am 7 weeks out and feel pretty good... almost 100% normal again. I am still a little tired and lack some motivation but other than that things are going well and they will for you too.
