Revision from VSG to BP
I had a sleeve in 2014 and lost 56 pounds, but regained more than half of it over 6 years. My bypass was done to eliminate my GERD, but obviously weight loss has occurred. My surgeon told me not to expect a huge weight loss. I'm 9 weeks postop today and I've lost 30 lbs. since surgery. Now I'm just trying to change my relationship with food so I can reach my healthy weight (10 more pounds to lose) and KEEP IT THERE!!!! I'm currently at the lowest weight I got to after VSG, so I'm feeling hopeful that I can reach my goal this time!

My GERD test is normal now what?
I have Aetna, and the BRAVO test being positive is what I needed to get approved. But my actual EGD showed chronic gastritis and esophagitis which was also necessary for diagnosis. My esophageal manometry and swallowing study were both normal. So maybe you don't have to have all the tests abnormal for insurance approval?????

You look beautiful! Don't forget that you've made these changes for you...…..let everyone else think what they want.

The best compliment....
I was recently at a neighborhood gathering and posted a picture on social media. People commented "You look wonderful", "Absolutely gorgeous", "You look so tiny"...…. I was 5 weeks post op that day and had lost about 20 lbs. The comments were so inspiring. Sometimes its those unexpected "wins" that give me the the greatest motivation!

Up All Night
I'm 6 weeks post op and still experience the vomiting from the "too full" feeling. Most of the time, it starts with the clear "saliva" looking stuff. My doctor calls it "slimy". According to him, once your stomach/digestive system gets irritated (too much food, wrong food etc.) it swells and starts to produce mucus. Even your lungs will start to produce mucus which is why it sometimes seems like your the saliva is coming out your nose. And vomiting is a cycle - vomiting causes inflammation that decreases the size of your stomach that forces more vomiting. His instructions to me when this happens: no food or drink for 4 hours for the inflammation to decrease. Then drink warm tea since the warmth is soothing to the stomach. I found that it takes about that long for the "full" feeling to subside. Then I try to log what I ate/drank that triggered the vomiting and avoid it in the future.

Cold all the time?
Freezing in Florida! 55 degrees might as well be an Arctic blast. Socks, sweats and sweaters are now my new best friends! I experienced the same issue after my VSG. Surgeon blamed it on rapid weight loss, especially that nice comfortable fat layer below the skin. But as mentioned above, I'll take cold any day compared to the sweating associated with morbid obesity!

Am i gonna puke all the time??
I was a "puker" since I was a kid....car sick=vomit, migraine=vomit, pregnancy=vomit, 3D movies=vomit. So I'm not surprised that every time I eat something that my new digestive track doesn't like...…vomit! I'm 6 weeks post op and although it has gotten better, I suspect it will be a part of my life for awhile. Yesterday it was triggered by a container of low fat Greek yogurt. After a miserable night I woke up this morning and gave my neighbor all the yogurt in my refrigerator! Just the sight of it was nauseating. I'm not being a pessimist or trying to say that vomiting is something that all WLS patients experience. But for those who were easily nauseated before surgery, it is always in the back of my mind. The dieticians have assured me that it's not anything to worry about, so I just take it as part of my body's healing process!

Weight loss amount
OMG.....I know exactly what you mean about weighing yourself when you get home from the hospital. I was 10 lbs. heavier the day I got home compared to the day of surgery 2 days earlier. And I looked like I was about 7 months pregnant. It took a good week for all the fluid weight to come off. But, I knew they pumped me full of IV fluids while in the hospital!!

24 hour PH test
I had to have a 48 hr. BRAVO ph monitor test, barium swallow test and an esophageal manometry test prior to insurance approval for sleeve to bypass conversion. I’m over 4 weeks post op and haven’t had an episode of GERD since surgery. It’s great! And losing weight is definitely an added bonus!

Clothes during Weight Loss
I’m a fan of Goodwill. After sleeve surgery, I was dropping a size every week. Goodwill has jeans and tops for less than $5.

UGH - Thanksgiving Regrets
Since I was exactly 4 weeks post op on Thanksgiving, my story was pretty predictable. I ate a little bit of everything, including pumpkin pie and apple crisp, then proceeded to be sick all night long (sorry to be graphic, but diarrhea sick). So my body rejected my food choices and I escaped gaining weight over thanksgiving. Do I have regrets.....I did Thursday night, but since I've been very kind to my digestive tract since then, I'm glad I got a taste of all the Thanksgiving food that I love.

Acid Reflux- Please Help
I've had acid reflux since 2010. Has a gastric sleeve in 2014 which helped with weight loss, but increased the acid reflux. I've run out of possible medical management and the reflux was destroying my quality of life. After having a bunch of diagnostic tests to confirm my acid reflux, my insurance approved gastric bypass surgery (gastrojejunostomy). I had surgery 10/29/20 and haven't had an episode of reflux since. Realize, this was major life changing surgery to cure my acid reflux, but at 63, I didn't see any improvement in my life without surgery. I'm now 4 weeks post op, healing and most of the post op issues are resolving. A "complication" of this surgery is weight loss, and I've lost 18 lbs. since surgery...….SWEET! I'm not saying that surgery is the best option for everyone with chronic GERD, but it was definitely the right choice for me.

The only option: Revision sleeve to bypass!
Just had gastric sleeve to gastric bypass surgery on 10/29/20 for surgical treatment of Chronic GERD/Gastritis/Esophagitis. The good news is I haven't had reflux since surgery. Of course, I've had to deal with the diet restrictions of surgery, but it will be so worth it when I've healed, lost weight and no longer have to sleep in a recliner due to GERD!

Expected weight loss
I just had gastric sleeve to gastric bypass on October 29th. I had lost 60 pounds after sleeve surgery but slowly gained 40 back over the past 6 years. My bypass surgery was done for chronic GERD/Gastritis/Esophagitis, but I will lose weight as a "side effect/complication" of surgery. My surgeon told me I won't lose as much with this surgery, so I'm taking advantage of the recovery period to refocus on good, healthy food choices. I need to lose 25 pounds to get to a BMI of 24.9 - Normal Weight, which is where my gastroenterologist and Family Practitioner want me to be. Of course, I'd love to weight 145 pounds...haven't been that weight for over 35 years! Good luck on your journey and keep us updated on your progress!

Sleeve to Bypass & hungry?
I had a bypass on October 29, 2020. I had the sleeve in November 2014 and definitely felt restriction AND loss of hunger. Since my bypass surgery, I'm hungry. Still in the Stage 2 liquid phase, but I'm anxiously waiting for week 3 - soft food! I didn't have the bypass for weight loss (although I'm hoping weight loss is a side effect). My surgeon told me that I may not see the severe weight drop like I did after the sleeve. I'm just hoping that I will notice the restriction once I start on real food 11/13/20. Until then.........I'm hungry!!!!!
