  1. You're doing it. You didn't think you could, but you are.

You have kids so you know about sacrifice. Did you carry/birth them yourself? Well this is a cinch. This time next year you will look back on these blogs and have a good laugh. Hell next month you will be reading about some other pre-bander moaning about the liquid diet. I've been there and gotten through. Now I B*tch when I have a fill and have to be on liquid for 2 days.

It is all worth it. Really.

    Good Luck with your journey.

  2. That's the spirit!

You have a lot on your plate but seem like a women with her head on straight.

Some succeed because they are destined to.

Most succeed because they are determined to.

    Good luck on your journey!!

Side note- My cholesterol was 324, it is now 194 and going down. That is without prescription drugs, just following band guidelines and exercising.

  3. What a great story!! And a great guy!!!

Regarding your food fears. I to thought that I would 'miss' food and that I would always be on a diet. You're mindset will change. Food will become less important. Trust me. When the band is working correctly (good restriction) you will be eating less and feeling good about it.

The kids are a good reason to go through this change. YOU are a better reason. Everything about you will be better ,therefor your relationships will be better.

    Good Luck on your journey.

  4. I'm under a month until the Triathlon.

On the bike Ive been averaging 6+miles daily. I need to up my runs over 3miles. I'm feeling good so far. No major muscle aches. Just my left shin being tight.

I had some really good BBQ today. I'm glad I'm training enough that I can eat it and not feel guilty.

Exercise is the key to weight loss people!

  5. Sarah,

That's great about sharing with you sister. Remember she too is going through some major changes. Respect and validate her thoughts and feelings and she will likely do the same for you.

It's smart to get yourself ready and 'all your ducks in a row'. Don't forget protein drinks/powder. I really liked the Unjury brand of protein powder. (UNJURY Medical Quality Protein Supplement: High Protein Supplement Uses Whey Protein Isolate. Great tasting whey protein supplements!). Keeps your energy up and feeling full longer.

You'll do great at the BBQ. Remember this is a lifestyle not a diet. You will always be able to have anything you want. Just remember moderation, preparation and portion. That means-not all the time, keep it low fat/calorie, smaller helpings.

    Happy Independence Day!!

  6. If you decide to let your family, or just a selected few know about the band really have a talk with them about how they can support you. Positive not negative words. Nonverbal support-staying with you while you recover.

Most of the time we overestimate the negative response of our friends and family. But you know them best. But know this: it is important to have a good support system in place before you are banded. You will need them for your best success.

    Good luck with your journey.

  7. Looks like you know you can't do this alone, so why aren't you letting others help you?

Use the resources available to you. The Dr. and the team he/she has set up to support you on your journey. Perhaps see a psychologist about your food issues. Learn some coping skills. You are not the first to have these issues. You will not be the last.

Pull up your shirt. LOOK at the scars. You took the first step to better health but the band can't work if you don't give it a chance. Thinking about it will not make it fill it's self.

Recommit yourself today. And if you have too do it again tomorrow and the next day and the next, do it. Until you are just doing the right thing without even thinking about it.

Come back to LBT often. Read about others struggles and successes.

Good Luck! Let us know how you are doing.

  8. Relax. I know you're excited and really want this to happen now, but you need to have a little patience. When you do get banded and hit the inevitable plateau you will need to draw on your patience again. If you want this to happen it will.

Use this time to inform yourself on the guidelines. Educate your support people. Start exercising a bit, it will help in your recovery.

  9. I resisted temptation and didn't open a bottle.

As to your question I had a glass of wine two days after banding and have had quite a few cocktails since. It's just a matter of figuring the calories into your daily plan.

Straight booze is the least calories. When you add the mixers or sweet liqueurs you add on the cals.

Nothing wrong with a good vodka.

  10. The running is your cardio for the day so skip the elliptical or treadmill. Do the weight training/core work on the same days as running. Nonrunning days do other gentle (no intervals) cardio (elliptical, treadmill) and core/ab work. You can never do too much work on your core.

When working on your arms don't forget your shoulders, and back. Got to keep things even and strong.

PS you're gunna sleep good tonight! Don't forget to stretch in the morning cause you'll be stiff.
