@@michellebutrick The appeal process has begun. Spoke with my surgeon's office, my PCP & my acid reflux doctor today. They all are getting their paper work together. I have FAITH, know that this minor setback is for a major comeback. Just praying it doesn't take me a year of appealing. My surgeon told me to keep my pre-op appt for the 18th as scheduled. Good luck to you!

    Hello
I started out at 425. I got on Atkins and was down to 398 when I was accepted in the Baritric program. I was required to lose weight before the Surgeon would set a date. I had to get to 370 so Surgeon let me stay on Atkins. I finally got to 366 in November 2014 and date was set for 12-2-2014. Requirement was to be on liquid diet starting 2 days before and I could not be over my weigh in weight of 366 the day of the surgery. I weighed in at 364 and Surgery was done. I am on day 4 now and was down to 350 this morning. Hopefully this keeps up. I have to stay on clear liquid diet for 2 weeks the semi liquid diet for 2 weeks the pureed diet for 4 weeks and then finally regular food.
Just hang in there and stay with it it will keep coming off.

You can see how I am doing numbers-wise in my sig below.
But brother, numbers are only a small part of the big picture. Guys and gals will attest, wearing smaller clothes, being more active, the self-esteem boost that comes with, (and fellas: let's all admit we've "improved" in certain other areas as well, amirite??)
It's a life changer, and the scale is just a teeny portion of that. Best of luck to you my friend.

I know exactly how you feel. I look at pictures from last summer and everything is different. I feel so much better. You hit the nail on the head, it is hard work. I am really proud of the work that I put in over the last 4 1/2 months. You have every right to feel excited. This is a really exciting time!!

I'm just in awww. Looking at myself in the mirror knowing where I was a year ago, months ago. Im so excited I can't even show it as much as I would like to. No one understands your battle but you. However you guys can relate as we all are on the same journey here. I just want to scream odd times, burst out into tears of joy and stair at myself saying is this really real. Am I going to wake up and it be a dream. I know I may sound crazy but I'm so emotional right now. Understand, how I feel right now I haven't felt in so long and the best part is this is the beginning of an extraordinary new life for me. While nothing around me has changed much, but my mind has and that makes all the difference. To anyone that is newly postop hang in there on those tuff days and get ready to get excited and to anyone contemplating on what to do, just think of feeling so good you can't stand it. Trust me it's not the easiest no matter what folks say like you cheated blah blah they don't know what they are talking about. This takes work but it's so rewarding.......once again EXCITED!

Hi all, I was sleeved on December 3rd and on December 5th developed cardiac complications. I'm not going to detail those here, but if you are interested you can check out my blog.
The reason for this post is to remind everyone that you have to be your own advocate after surgery. The medical staff throughout all stages of my complications were competent...but not knowledgeable about bariatric patients needs. The hospital kitchens are not stocked with the type of high quality, low carb Protein we need post surgery. I had great support from my husband who brought me Isopure/outside stuff so I could come close to following my plan.
I'm thankful for my surgeon, Dr. Carlos Galvani at UMC in Tucson AZ for staying engaged and advocating for me even throughout the whole thing.
After 7 days, the complication has, for the most part, resolved, and other than a ton of new medicine that I'm on for the next 3 months, I'm now able to walk, and really start my sleeve journey. God and life are good. I think it is time for some yogurt! Beth
BTW....only made me second guess myself once in a pity party attended by me and my husband on Sunday evening when I realized I was on the way back to the hospital...Even if I knew going in I was going to have this bump in the road, I would go through with the surgery...it will lead to better health!

Yes, it's more than likely because your body is in ketosis. When ever you limit your carbs to an extreme like most of us do on pre-op diets and after surgery our body's start burning stored fat as its fuel source And that fat break down is what's making your breath yucky!! (That's the short of it) it's called ketosis breath and its a good thing (and annoying!) Brushing your teeth ect..can help mask it but the smell is coming from your insides so there's really nothing you can do about it until it either goes away by its self or you up your carb intake. Drink lots of Water (well what you can). Embrace the stinky-ness lol!!

That's a good decision! Pre-op was pretty easy as far as my insurance approval, appointments, ect.. Pre-op diet was just as I stated above. Not The funniest two weeks of my life but not unbearable. The actual surgery itself went smooth...waking up in recovery SUCKED until they got my pain under control (probably 5-10 mins but it was bad!) after that the rest of my hospital stay (2days) was good, a little nausea the First two days when I stood up but I never puked. I had a PCA pump with morphine that made me all loopy. I never had any gas pains ect...dry mouth was one of the worst parts Until the next day when I passed my swallow test and was allowed Water (hallelujah) I had a JP drain that was not my friend and staples that I didn't Appreciate but over all a success!

You could also do a pre-op diet like I did for two weeks: 3-4 protien shakes a day (premier protien was my go to ) low sodium broth sf popsicles and sf jello...that's it! I lost 11 in that two weeks.

Ok so I read somewhere that drinking "smooth move" tea would help keep you regular. Well I've been lucky enough to be regular but I thought oh I LOVE tea so why not (for good measure) so I drank a nice cup earlier and then I decided to look up the reviews on it and now I'm horrified that I'm in for a night of torture! I read reviews like "it caused me to have the worst cramps I've ever had!", "the cramps are worse than childbirth" "I crapped for hours" "I almost shat myself Inside out" (ok maybe not the last one but that's my fear right now, that and having to sit in a quit room taking finals tomorrow!) So has anyone actually drank this stuff? How did it "go". If I don't get any replies I will just go ahead and assume my "hell tea" is true. I seriously considered throwing it up! I don't have time for this nonsense! Tea is suppose to be soothing not a stinking torture device! For FOX Sake!

Today, I saw my Endocrinologist, I am no longer diabetic, my cholesterol has dropped 90 points and my thyroid medicine was decreased. The doctor was thrilled and so was I! I have had a great day today

Keep a watch on that low grade fever okay! If it disappears you are going to be okay. if it gets higher. Please talk to your surgeon. A fever is your first clue that something is not right.

I have a favor. I am trying to find pics of well-healed scars after VGS surgery. I see fresh ones, but not a lot of healed ones. Would anyone be willing to share a pic of your tum? Various stages of healing (fresh to well healed) would probably be appreciated by all. Thanks in advance.

Hello fellow sleevers. I was 190 June 10 when I started my pre-op diet. Sleeved 6/17 and today I'm at 149. That's 41 pounds in 4 months. I'm thrilled with the results so far.
I have had a pretty easy time with little pain and no real complications. I just read and post to figure out how to work past some of the quirks that go along with the sleeve.
My dr said that since I'm so close to goal, 10 to 15 pounds, the weight loss will be slower from here on out.
I have stalled twice for weeks. My hair is also coming out more than before, but I've been reassured by all the members here, so I just take it in stride.
As for getting to old habits, I either pass on a "treat" or I have just a small bite.
I'm so restricted, I prefer a great meal as opposed to Snacks.
I'm always glad to know others are out there like me, and I'm happy to answer any questions about my journey.
    Best to us all ...
