Can anyone help me with this pre op diet? I am exercising and drinking a Protein Shake once a day, however I am scared to eat or drink anything bc I have less than a month to lose 15-20 pounds. Can someone suggest things to eat that will help lose the 15-20? I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance!

Well I hope I read that wrong and your not JUST drinking a Protein Shake and That's it?! Because if you are you will put your body right into starvation mode and it will hold on to fat ect for survival and you probably won't lose what you need to lose. Why do you need to lose so much in a month? Your best option would be to do a low carb diet and drink LOTS of water...lots!

Protein, Protein and protein ;)

Lean meats and veggies. Try to stay away from carbs. (No breads, rice and pasta). Drink a lot of water/crystal light. If you don't mind me asking...Why do you have less than a month to loose 15 to 20 pounds?

I have to lose it bc my dietician states it will shrink my liver and bc the surgery is planned sooner than we expected I have to lose the 15-20

@@Pr33ty Heard Well it sounds like your eating right. Keep it up you will lose if you continue on a low carb diet and keep up the Water intake. Peeing all the time stinks!

You could also do a pre-op diet like I did for two weeks: 3-4 protien shakes a day (premier protien was my go to ) low sodium broth sf popsicles and sf jello...that's it! I lost 11 in that two weeks.

@@Elode have you already had your surgery? She even told me that if I didnt lose the weight my Dr would cancel the surgery. Have you ever heard of that?

@@Elode Nevermind to the first question, I see you had your surgery in Nov. How was it for you and how is it now for you? What should I expect being that I have 3 weeks.

@@Pr33ty Heard I have heard of patient being told that but I think in part it's a scare tactic that they use because they want you to be serious about losing the weight they asked you to. Now, if they pushed your surgery up I don't see how they can expect you to lose that much weight in that short of a time period?! It's a Huge expectation on their part! I don't know your medical history or stats but if you have any serious health issues such as heart ect.. And your weight at this point isn't considered safe for the procedure Than yes I can see them denying you. If it's just to shrink your liver then no it does not take a full month or certain number of lbs lost to do that.

Are you asking how my surgery was or how my pre-op was?

@@Elode I too think it's a scare tactic as well as making sure that I will be able to change my diet after the surgery, however, I'm willing to change it bc I'm just tired of the excess weight!

Yes, I'm inquiring of both, the before and after.

That's a good decision! Pre-op was pretty easy as far as my insurance approval, appointments, ect.. Pre-op diet was just as I stated above. Not The funniest two weeks of my life but not unbearable. The actual surgery itself went smooth...waking up in recovery SUCKED until they got my pain under control (probably 5-10 mins but it was bad!) after that the rest of my hospital stay (2days) was good, a little nausea the First two days when I stood up but I never puked. I had a PCA pump with morphine that made me all loopy. I never had any gas pains ect...dry mouth was one of the worst parts Until the next day when I passed my swallow test and was allowed Water (hallelujah) I had a JP drain that was not my friend and staples that I didn't Appreciate but over all a success!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
