  1. there are many vegan Protein shakes that use wither hemp protein or ben protein etc. these are lactose free and a godsend to people who have lactose issues. You can find many of them online or your local Vitamin shoope or Vitamin Shoppe online. Good luck!
  2. i had a handful of doritos at a superbowl party. while i didnt have any ill effects from them, but, i put myself into a 5 day stall. not very smart on my part.
  3. you cannot chug anything, nor take huge gulps even or gulps at all, you have to train yourself to drink slower. And be careful with talking about leak tests etc. Many surgeons do not bother with such a thing unless there is a suspicion of problems or other complications. Every surgeon/medical group is different.
  4. actually there are several interviews where she says she hopes to gain much more weight and that people lie about fat being unhealthy and how many other things like that. do a google search you'll find them. No one is saying you should loathe yourself by any means, but the idea that you should just accept being fat and embrace it, is great for your psyche and for talk show hosts but your psyche wont help you fight off diabetes or heart disease or the myriad other issues including discrimination, shaming, mobility etc. Im not advocating hate, im advocating help. if we can make the help available then more people may take on the task of getting healthy and less people will die at a young age because of their weight.
  5. I think the problem i have with this woman is that she claims she is healthy and the lifestyle is healthy and she pushes the lifestyle, i have no problem with plus size models or people, but promoting it as healthy, well we all know the real face of that. Denial aint just a river in Egypt. We've all been victims of denial, and enabling, there are many very large women and men who model sexual fetish sites and the like, but making money does not make it healthy. We know it, we live it, we are fixing it. She can live her life, and It won't affect me either way. The truth is not debatable, we are a part of that and yes, the truth hurts. The days of the Fat happy person stereotype should be washed away. too many people suffer and die needlessly, we know with help, you can retake control of your life, we are all examples of this, ( some more than others, thank you for leading the way) The food addict is no different in denial from the other addicts who are just fine and dandy with being addicted. When i was a smoke ( 17 years ago) i used to say " hey I like being a smoker, I enjoy my cigarettes, no one is going to make me quit if i don't want to.". In truth that is just me deflecting from my addiction. I did the same with food, "hey i enjoy my food, i could be a drinker or take drugs, its just food.." I think most of us know where I am coming from. So in the grand scheme of things, is she hurting me? No. Is she hurting herself, that's a different story entirely.
  6. lol love it, I had to go in for a nuclear stres test recently and between the meds they had me on and the radioactive tracer dye, my wife told the doc she was upset i didnt get any super powers...Then again i was upset too. sigh. lol

  8. we grew up with bozo the clown, Also we had willie whistle who didnt really talk... well kinda.
  9. i do use a spanx undershirt, i have some sagging issues no doubt, i use it mainly as a smoother to smooth out those areas i dont like to accent. lol i also just buy underarmor compression A-shirts and buy them according to size to do the same type of thing. you can get a waist wrap or a tummy control brief, i find them a bit too restrictive for me. but it might work for you.
  10. Ill clap for that breakthrough!! way to go!!
  11. i always loved salads, now that being said , my salad choices were not healthy, the old ill have the chicken caeser salad with 1600 calories of dressing lol. i havent been able to tolerate lettuce as of yet although i havent tried iceberg, but romaine, bibb and boston are all way out.
  12. I have to agree with Alex. But I will say don't put so much stock in calories as a label. Put your stock in grams. that is, are you getting in enough bulk Protein to nourish and maintain proper muscle growth and retention, as well as basic cerebral and general bodily functions. You have to have enough protein to not only fuel your body , and compensate for the loss of carbohydrates and glucose, but also to facilitate the proper muscle growth and maintenance. If you dont , then as others have said you will burn muscle as well as fat, and you wind up in a stall. Think of your body like a construction crew and a demolition crew, each one works on the building that is your body, if you have 10 people building the building, and 20 tearing it down, who will win? the demolition crew will. So if you have more people building than tearing down, you will gain muscle. Good luck, and you can do this.
  13. ahh i took some roast beef sliced and threw it in a pan to warm it sprinkled some cheese on it and a little pico de gallo salsa, and bang wakeup tastebuds.
  14. thats sugar free italian sweet creme is my godsend. that stuff has made coffee so good. although my nut limits me (sleve0 to one medium iced coffee per day, which since i dont even finish half of it. is fine by me.

  16. you dont want to swap addiction for addiction, but for me I spent those times i would normally just boredom eat, with new hobbies. I now play guitar and take guitar lessons. I go to the gym. etc. i write, I do my blog, etc. lots of things you can do to kep your mind off of food. Do i miss food, heck ya and I always will and there are many days i wish i could just eat normally, even e\ating healthy but a normal portion and then I have to look at how much I've lost and how far I have come and I am okay with it all. It will be harder I am sure more months down the road when im at goal and just maintaining, but ill cross that bridge when i get there. You can do this.
  17. Here's a good hint, there is almost no way to tighten skin. Very young people have an easier time of it due to having much more elastin in their cells. Lose weight fast and you are going to have loose skin as fat separates from the muscles it used to stick to. Your panny area ( lower belly) will droop and hang and feel like a half empty bag of Jello. yep. justthe way it is. Thats why so many end up with plastic surgery after.
  18. so i had the ct scan , had to drink half a bottle of barium and they stuck me four times trying to get an iv then gave up. the problem is they didnt find a leak instead they found enlarged lymph nodes in my abdomen and dont know why. So tomorrow they are going to schedule me for an endoscopy. SIgh. The most obvious cause would be the horrible C word. which i wont even type. So keep your fingers crossed, say a prayer, throw up a gang sign, whatever you have, Ill take it.
  19. lets see , no gallbladder was removed years back, im still waiting for my cat scan appointment its been labeled as urgent and supposed to be today but.... they couldn't find any rib injuries on xray, and if it was a rib, eating wouldnt be a trigger, it would have pain pretty much constantly and might get worse on expiration or inspiration, but mine doesnt. im really leaning toward either my hiatal hernia got much much worse, ( had a little one they decided not to fix in my surgery.) or esophageal erosion, or (gulp, i pray not) a leak or ulcer.
  20. Sorry David but I understand your from Mexico and im sure it is a pride thing, But even the World health Organization ranks mexico city as sixth behind the average US hospitals which are ranked first.. but while mexico's hospitals are getting better , they are not there yet and several numbers behind many of the other countries listed in world rankings. Also most people are not having their surgeries in mexico city. Im not saying they are bad but they shouldnt be misleading either. I agree i would not want shills for either US or overseas agencies working people over. Like i said saying the mexican hospital arent the same as the US isnt saying they are bad or shouldnt be used.
  21. ill also say after reading all these posts, is that people, you can defend the surgeries done in Mexico, but when you tell others not to be biased, and then you show a bias yourself by overly defending them, it only makes you look more foolish. The undeniable facts are that hospitals in mexico are NOT up to par with united states standards. If you are in the medical field you know this to be true. You can check with the W.H.O and find it out as well. To say you have the same chances as if you were in a level 1 , surgical trauma equipped united states hospital as you are in a clinic in mexico is absolutely ludicrous. Now does that mean you cannot have a great experience in Mexico with your surgery? Absolutely not. But it does mean there is the added chance that a high-risk patient will not get that lifesaving care that they may require. Sorry that is simple truth, it cannot be disputed by anything except emotional rhetoric. Now I am extremely lucky, oh and my qualification for my discourse. I was an Army Medic and Paramedic doing rescue in Massachusetts for 11 years. I was in the medical insurance field for 4 years qualifying physicians as exemplary caregivers for one of the largest insurers in the world. Now what can be debated is the percentage of increased risk that exists between the US and other countries. Medical Tourism sites would have you believe it to be zero. This is not the truth, sorry. However due to the inability of foreign governments to provide accurate data , you will never know. In the US you can obtain any lawsuits , deaths and the surgical record for any surgeon , and that is LAW. ( contact your local A branch of the AMA for more information) Now again I am lucky I live 8 miles from Boston where we have 3 level 1 trauma centers and 2 Level 1A trauma centers. Oh and by the way thy do not open the border for ambulances. That i can assure you. you do have a special lane to go into , but they still check your bus, ( sorry our term) and any medications on the US banned import list ( your drug kit) must be sealed on the way across the border. Ambulance from mexico must be stopped and the patient transferred to a vehicle on the us side. S it takes you some time to coordinate this. As a result the transfer time from a hospital in Tijuana to a hospital in California is not fast. I have many friends who make extra money as transfer medics in the companies that specialize in these calls. Now that being said. the facts as as is said many times. do your homework, if your accepting of the risk level, that that facility is for you, if not, then you move on. Be well and safe all.
  22. What is problematic, is that since the co-morbidities exist, we have a higher likelihood of potential life-threatening problems arising during or post, surgery. The issue I personally have is that a higher risk patient needs a higher risk facility. Outpatient surgeries be they in or out of this country, are too often dictated by cost rather than by patient risk. That is what has to change and that is why people must do their homework before choosing a facility and surgeon. It doesn't matter if you save money if that money goes to your funeral expenses. Surgery is not something to take lightly.
  23. Thank you so much for your always insightful approaches to the human condition and obesity. Acceptance is such a huge part of what we do, and how we should do it. I think a lot of people go into WLS thinking that once they lose weight , all will be perfect. When they realize that weight loss is not perfect, and that they also will not be perfect, they hit a wall. It is only when you realize that perfect is not a state of being, but a state of mind that you can get beyond the past and move on to the next phase in your life. Sometimes hitting that wall is good because it urges you to push on through it. For many however, it stays as a wall, becoming a divider between them, and their goal of healthy living. Thank you again for all you do.
  24. i did have a nuclear stress test in the hospital and they were able to rule out an MI. thankfully as my family has a large level of deaths and heart attacks as well. But the horror stories regarding leaks and feeding tubes etc. really scare me.
  25. Peanut Butter is actually good for you, my nutritionist made me use it. the natural peanut butter which there are now much more of as well. i do find the natural stuff is uber sticky and i miss drinking some milk to wash it down but its still not a bad choice if youre allowed and in the right stage, right type and right amounts. 'good luck! i want french fries, but seriously id probably trade a testicle for a hotdog on a bun.
