Inner Surfer Girl got a reaction from Armygalbonnie in This is Us -- possible spoilers
If anyone is watching the excellent drama on NBC called This Is Us then you are familiar with the character Kate and her struggles.
In case you missed it she announced the decision last night at Thanksgiving dinner to have gastric bypass surgery.
Here is an open invitation to the writers, the character, and the actress to join our community at Bariatric Pal.
Lots of ideas for drama here!

It has carbonation so my guess is that it would be painful or at the least make you very, very uncomfortable.
Carbonation is one thing I gave up completely pre-op and frankly, I don't miss it at all. There are alternatives.

Inner Surfer Girl reacted to mnopali in Drinking sprite
When I was going through my preop stage, my nurse told me they once had a patient that hid a Pepsi in their bag that they brought with them to the hospital. She drank it when we she was post op and her stomach hemorrhage and she died. I was a hard core diet Pepsi fan. Not after I heard that story. Not worth it!!!

I am six weeks plus out from my surgery, and doing well. I have been off work (I run my own small business) since surgery because of lifting limits, so I have been goofing off and doing hobby stuff or light duty around the house while I heal up.
Today will be a big day, and a test for how well I have been healing. The little monsters, aka my four grandsons, will be arriving with their parents for Thanksgiving. The boys are seven, five, three, and one. Papaw (that's me) is one of their favorite people. They love to attack en masse. Wrestling with me is a huge thing for all of us. I am doing very well with my incisions healing up, but I will be interested to see how things go. Hopefully I won't be posting in the "I sprung a leak!" forum later on this evening.

Welcome!
Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of the process of losing weight. If you intend to lose a significant amount of weight, you will experience stalls. Just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery.
As you are doing, weighing infrequently is a great strategy if you allow the numbers on the scale dictate how you feel.
The best thing to do in my experience is to:
Follow your program.
Track your food.
Make sure you are getting at least 64 oz of Fluid every day.
Make sure you are reaching your protein target every day. (What is your protein target? Mine is 100 grams.)
Avoid added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), starches, and fried foods.
Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed.
Exercise when cleared.
Please keep in mind that not eating enough can be just as "bad" as eating too much when it comes to optimizing your weight loss.
Embrace the Stall

You DO NOT NEED TO CUT anything. You need to be eating more Protein and good carbs.

At 13 days out - you should be able to drink more than 1oz every 15 minutes. On my plan (again my plan, and different programs have different plans) we were to start out at 1oz every 15 minutes so we didn't go too fast those first few days and end up with discomfort/pain. But we were told to progress to more than that as we could tolerate it. And yes, it was a full time job at first to get in fluids - seriously from the time I got up at 6:30am until I went to bed (which usually wasn't until midnight because I was still trying to get fluids in!). However since you are 13 days out - try drinking faster - but still sipping initially - and see how you do. It should be getting much much easier to get your fluids in.

@@simplykind33 The 'ounce every 15 mins' guideline isn't to LIMIT you, it was to ensure you got ENOUGH Fluid early on. You should be drinking to tolerance, with the exception of 30 mins before and 30 mins after your purees.

Are you still journaling everything you are eating every day? How many carbs are you eating in a day? Is there anything in particular that you are intaking that you feel might be causing the stall (e.g., alcohol, sugar, not enough Protein, etc.)?

It's not a stall if you're losing fat and gaining muscles. You need to start measuring (arms, chest, waist, hips, legs) and track that every month. The clothing fitting looser is a sign that things are working the way they're supposed to, but if you're only using the scale to check in on your progress, then you're probably getting pretty frustrated.
Fat is more bulky than muscle, so a pound of fat gone and replaced with leaner muscle means you're losing what you need to lose and gaining lean muscle mass.
You need to reframe what it means to get successful - it isn't just straight up weight loss. You gaining muscle in place of fat is WONDERFUL. The more fat you lose and replace with muscle the better your body is going to operate and the actual weight loss (when it does start happening again) will go even better than before.
Just keep monitoring your Protein intake, watch the calories and carbs and drink your Water. Get your exercise in and if you haven't started seeing the scale start moving down again soon, try adding in a few hundred extra calories of Protein and complex carbs (like Beans with a small portion of brown rice) to see if you might be needing a bit more fuel to get your metabolism kick started.

Wow. It sounds like your sister has some serious issues. All I can suggest off the top of my head is to: 1) love her, 2) set and enforce the boundaries that you need to take care of yourself, 3) talk with a professional therapist or counselor about healthy ways of coping and interacting with her if you need guidance, and 3) take care of yourself first.
Although it may seem impossible, please try not to take her actions and attitude personally. Marshall all of your other resources: this site, a support group, your Bariatric team, a therapist or counselor, books/reading, etc.
Keep us posted on how you are doing.

I wasn't cleared for ground meats until later in my program. At 3 weeks I was on soft foods, so refried Beans and melted cheese was ok. It was actually one if the first soft foods I ate.

Why do people harp on what other's have, or get? Seriously, the world isn't about you or being fair to you. I am sure if she gets government assistance you wouldn't want to trade places with her! In a better world we would all have government insurance and insurance rip off companies couldn't screw any of us, but as long as the "me, mine" attitude is all we care about, instead of caring for the "least of our brothers" we will get screwed. Divide and concur and fear is what keeps the insurance CEO's and drug companies super rich.
