  1. If possible, see if she can go to your pre-op appointments and classes with you. The more she learns about/and knows the less likely she will worry.
  2. I haven't but I have heard really good things about him.
  3. Do you have a good therapist? Have you talked this through with a professional who works with people with eating disorders? to be honest i went through therapy couple years back but it did not help. I have not talked this through with a professional who specifically deals with eating disorders. but trust me, i did EVERYTHING that i could think of doing to try to solve my eating problem with no avail. Saying that the vsg is my choice of last resort is an understatement. I am going to have to disagree with you. If you had done everything you would still be seeing a therapist. You can't just give up after a few sessions. I think what you may not be understanding from the feedback you are getting is how much you have to work and how focused and dedicated to changing your relationship with food you need to be after surgery. Surgery will not cure you of what drives you to binge. It is a tool, not a magic wand. I highly recommend you find a good therapist and consider attending support groups. You may find help with Overeaters Anonymous. You can find meeting lists and other resources like podcasts online at OA.org.
  4. I don't know the answer to your specific question but wanted to recommend the misfit shine. I love mine and it is less expensive than a Fitbit.

  6. Heck, if she is worried about housework, then hire a cleaning service. I am single and have found it very helpful to have someone come in and do some heavy cleaning once a month. The ladies who clean for me surprised me and came by and cleaned while I was in the hospital as a recovery gift! They have been some of my biggest cheerleaders!
  7. I went on a bit of a pre-op shopping spree for dishes. I have always loved dishes. I got some cool sushi plates and bowls, salad plates, appetizer plates, appetizer utensils, small food storage containers, etc.
  8. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. If you intend to lose a significant amount of weight you will experience periodic stalls. That said, it seems like your calories are really low. Your calories should be relative to your Protein target. You don't even mention your protein. What is your protein target? Are you getting at least that much protein every day? Are you getting at least 64 oz of Fluid a day? Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  9. This is an old post, but Dr. Weiss in Lexington at Bluegrass Bariatrics is excellent.
  10. You can start soft foods when your surgeon allows you to have soft foods. In your case, that would be two weeks. My week one was Clear Liquids. Week two was full liquids. Week three was soft foods and week four was soft mechanical, etc.
  11. You are 5'4", 108 pounds, have an eating disorder and you want to be sleeved? I'm going to exit quietly. no, I'm 5'4" and I'm 125 pounds. My goal weight would be like 110, which isn't underweight. No one should ever have surgery to lose 15 pounds. I truly hope you have a good therapist. As others have noted, surgery is not a solution for an eating disorder.
  12. Even if your surgeon requires you to be 18 you could start the process now. You will be 18. I know for someone your age, 6 months or even a year can SEEM like an eternity. But, it will take time to prepare mentally and physically for surgery. The pre-op requirements are designed to make sure you are prepared and to put you on the best position for a safe and successful surgery.
  13. My doc didn't give me a guideline for calories but I'm not getting more than 600-700. Fluid is suppose to be 64oz. But I'm probably getting 40oz. I've never drank much. Before surgery and as long as I can remember I would go every other morning and get me an unsweet 42oz peach mango tea from the station and that lasts me all of 2 days. My husband says I'm a camel. Now I try harder to drink and only Water tastes good to me now so I'm drinking what I use to drink in 2 days, in one. My docs protein goal for me is 64oz. Which I take 30g of GENEPRO twice daily and then count on my diet to get the other 4 grams. So I'm sure I'm exceeding my protein goals. Thank you for the encouraging words. I have never been one to need them and constantly need validation but this has been a trying time for me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Your protein, fluids, and calories all seem very low. What does your NUT advise?
  14. I have a blender but rarely use it, but, I never had a puree phase. I went from full liquids to soft foods to soft mechanical foods. I didn't eat baby food. There is plenty of regular, adult food to choose from to meet your Protein and nutritional goals.
  15. I am about 18 months post-op. I haven't had to use protein shakes for a long time but still do occasionally for convenience. I also add protein powder to my oatmeal, etc. It is a choice, not a requirement.
  16. I didn't experience any perceptible hair loss (my hair is fine and thick) and have always worn my hair long. Not long after surgery, I got it cut really short and donated my hair. I haven't looked back. I love it short. I swim and it is easy to care for, light, and I get complements all the time.
  17. I don't think I had any restrictions on adding spices to foods. Like everything, just make sure you go slow, try one new thing at a time, and see how you react.
  18. If I remember correctly, shrimp was allowed on my soft mechanical stage. Maybe soft. You can always call and ask your NUT if in doubt.
  19. I almost bought a pomegranate at Aldi's the other day. I am not quite sure how to eat one!
  20. I am actually struggling to get all my protein in. I get my fluids though. Try upping your protein. Eat protein first and avoid added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup). Starches, and fried foods. You may want to increase your fluids, too.
  21. How are you doing at getting in all of your Protein and fluids? Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  22. I don't think you can spot reduce fat. You can only tone your muscles. My exercise of choice is swimming. It is great for my core and my whole body. You could swim laps, take Water aerobics classes, do water weights, water walking, etc.
  23. To be a healthy human being, exercise is critical. I enjoy exercise (mostly swimming) because I can do it. The more I exercise the more I can do and the more I can exercise the more I enjoy it. It is self reinforcing.
