Zane's Mom got a reaction from Butterflyhigh in ISO Low BMI Sleeve Mentor
Hello all. I was sleeved 6/17 and my pre op and highest weight was 190 and today I am 154.
I too was a self pay $8200. The insurance did not cover the procedure, but did the hernia repair.
I looked back into my diet journals past and realized I was always trying to lose weight and I was always miserable.
My blood work was horrid and my doctor said I had to do something. My first appointment was in May and I was sleeved a month later.
It's the best thing I have done. I lost my son in 2011 and my life has spiraled down for several years. In 2014 it seems a fog has lifted and I need to try to find life again. For myself and for my family.
I'm no veteran, but I can tell you that I have a great attitude towards this and I can be a pick me up for anyone wanting a friend.
I have 10 children total, and married for 16 years. His mine ours and the ones we've adopted. They go from 38 down to 5 years.
I am self employed and a dog lover.
I'm realistic about this journey and have taken it all in stride.
I do have a counselor and psychiatrist as well as OB and family doctor which I consulted with all of then before I scheduled the surgery.
I still take my meds for the depression, and go to my bereaved parents support group.
That's me. I'm amy if anyone wants to chat.

I use the fit bit. If you go to More and apps and devices it shows you the compatible devices. I use the zip which I attach to my waist band. I've never been a watch or Bracelet wearer. I love it. The two apps sync together and gives me total control of my day.

Same here. Sleeved June 17 and never an issue with sipping. I was able to drink normally from the next day. Just count us as the lucky ones who did not have issues. I also use a straw with no issue.

I took my am dose the morning of surgery and skipped my two night time meds and they brought me my morning dose the next day. I went home and resumed all meds swallowing whole with no issue.
I take Effexor am and seroquel and remeron pm.
I have not needed any adjustments. My psychiatrist is pleased with my decision and the progress I have made.

Zane's Mom got a reaction from alwaysvegas in Oatmeal--I think I over ate
I have never had an issue with drinking. I can drink 12 oz of Protein in a few minutes. I love cheese, it has always agreed with me. Also Peanut Butter no issue. I am 8 weeks out and just tried oatmeal. Since it was liquidy I ate a packet with no issue.
You're doing fine. At 4 weeks I was to start regular foods as tolerated. There are just some foods that are easier to handle for each person. There are some I try and know I'm not ready.
I have started to use my fitness pal more faithfully now that my meals are getting more regular. So for dinner I had three small pieces of lunch meat and two slices of Munster cheese. I roll it up and eat it slowly. Goes down easy. I love it.
Just try things and be mindful of the portion size if it is too much. Track it if you want to know if you're reaching your requirements. But keep on trying new things.

Zane's Mom got a reaction from operationthin in stalled
I stalled for three weeks from day 9. At 6 weeks today I am down 30 pounds total.
The scale and weight loss is a constant stair step. Same a few days and lose. It also depends on my total digestion and hydration.
I just keep on keeping on knowing I'm doing the best I can and trying to learn a new respect for my new normal.
I am trying to slow my eating and chewing thoroughly. I am trying all sorts of foods but in moderation.
Some days I just cannot stomach another shake and I'm glad I graduated to Protein bars as part of my regimen.
I do know that when I workout outside and sweat from the 100 degree days, I have to stay super hydrated but usually the scale will move a little more.
The best to all of you for accepting new as the hardest thing we have ever done but necessary and welcome in our improving lives.

Zane's Mom got a reaction from Angi~2014 in Almost 4 weeks post op and I have only lost 14 pounds
I only lost 14 pounds in my first month. I stalled for three weeks. But today I am 8 weeks out from surgery and down 30 pounds since I started my pre-op diet on June 10. So 60 days of losing. I started at 190 and I'm 159.6 pounds today. I'm half way to my goal.
But I know the other half will be the hardest work I'll ever have to do.
Don't see the number see the improvements.

I too am stalled. I've been at the same weight for 2 weeks and I'm only 3 weeks out. It's so frustrating but I can't change much because I'm on soft foods and consume very little. I do get in 60 gm protien via shakes plus the small amount in the food I attempt to eat.
I just can't wait to write the post that says it's over. Hope to be back with that one soon.

I posted earlier. Sleeved 6/17. And since June 25 I have been stalled. Only 20 pound since preOp diet. I an down 2 pounds today so yeah. I guess my body has Finally come out of shock and will now do what it's supposed to.
I'm sure another Stall or several will come along this journey as I add and experiment with regular foods. It is what it is !!!

Zane's Mom got a reaction from pacorvalan in Self pay in Texas
I wanted to post because I did not see many self pays in the U.S. I knew off the bat that I would not have insurance coverage, so I went in knowing I would be paying the bill.
The first place I went to felt like a factory that cranks out procedures. So I went to another place. They were awesome. On my first visit I met with the surgeon himself. I was impressed with the office, staff and him.
At first I though I wanted the band since my BMI is under 35. But after speaking with all of my doctors we decided that a sleeve would be better because of all the medication I take and will take indefinitely.
I had the EDG scope and it showed a large hiatal hernia along with ulcers on my stomach. The surgeons explained how important that hernia repair is because of the new size of the stomach to keep all of the parts where they are supposed to be.
So, my insurance pays for the hernia repair, and I pay the reduced price of $8200 for my sleeve. From consult to surgery was one month. I am 7 days out and happy as can be.
I have had no complications and even the hospital stay was terrific.
I know that price is an absolute issue to many people. But I think my choice was perfect for me. Could I have paid less, yes. But I did have a local surgeon, I did have the hernia repaired, and my support team in the doctors office is only a call or visit away.
Are there others out there like me??? I just wanted to share my story and it's a good one!!!

I am 6 weeks post op and only had to do one week full liquid diet. I was lucky and did not feel hungry much. I was so excited about the surgery.
My husband did the liquid diet with me. He was also supportive and I did not cook for that week or for 2 weeks after. That way I was not tempted.
I think it's great keeping busy. Just keep up the great work.
Great success for you to come !!!!

Hello. I was sleeved 6/17. I'm 43 and low bmi too
SW 190 and current weight 165. I'm thrilled with my decision. It was very personal and my family is super supportive
I chose to have my husband stay until I got to my room and then I told him to leave and if to work and pick me up the next afternoon.
Everything went fine and in fact I was not in any pain in the hospital, great meds, and I made the surgeons nurse read me the notes from the procedure because I did not think he did it. Haha.
I was able to start liquids the morning after with no problems. I took my meds that morning, swallowed the pills no issue and I was speed walking around the floor I was on.
Second night was the hardest at home when I had to get out of bed. That was painful. I took my pain meds a few days and have been doing well.
I did have a long stall for about 20 days but I knew it was coming. I'm also glad it's been slow because for those many I didn't tell, the change is gradual and I just attribute it to healthy changes.
Good luck on your journey. We are all looking forward to the best days to come.

I'm June 17th. Since June 26 I have been stalled. Lost 20 since pre-op and was thrilled but not a pound since the 26th. I drink just fine. I get in 60 gm Protein before I think about meals. Also on soft foods and able to eat very little. I'm trying to walk 30 minutes a day. I am upset but I know it has to end soon.
I would love to keep up with June sleevers. Please keep posting.

Zane's Mom got a reaction from auntjanny in 4'11 180 lbs... Insurance/self pay combo ?
I knew my insurance would not cover. So my doctors had my insurance cover an EDG and the hiatal hernia repair. Then the wl surgeon comes in after the repair and does the sleeve. For me it was $8200. I was overnight in the hospital and everyone was so amazing and I got a necessary medical fix to help my sleeve perform optimally.
I also had multiple ulcers on my stomach and the sleeve removed most of those!!!
They said that the docs and hospital write off all of the remaining amounts and my cash price was all I paid.
This is the way I decided to go. I'm in dallas Texas.

Zane's Mom got a reaction from Wires in Very short tempered and not patient---HELP!
I have 3 depression/anxiety/crazy pills I take daily, I've been taking for 3 years now since the death of my son. I NEED them to be functional for myself and my family.
My psychiatrist emphasized that I must take all of my meds as prescribed because the surgery is such a shock to your body that your mental state needs to stay consistent.
For people with MDD (major depressive disorder) and the such, it can be dangerous to not have your proper doses.
This is one reason I chose sleeve over band, and I thankfully have been able to swallow all of them since the day after surgery.
I know surgery is overall a positive experience, as you know there are major ups and downs even within one day. And add regular life to that ....
As everyone else said, please take the meds and get in touch with your doctor if needed.
