My May 1st Banding Story -
Thank you Freedom! I appreciate you sharing the details about your surgery. I do worry about those first waking moments and yours sounded very doable. I think the naps and reading sound like heaven! I have 2 boys & a job at an elementy school and while my life is wonderful there are few moments to myself. I will be banded on May 12th! I hope this week flies by!! Again.. thanks for sharing!:biggrin2:

Your Aetna experience?
Hey Amy123, I have Aetna POSII. I saw a dietian every 30 days for 3 months. On day 90 I saw her one last time and when I was finished I had an appointment (that day) with the actual surgeon to discuss wether this was what I still wanted and did I understand the proceedure. Two days later they sent my info. to Aetna. unfortunatly it went to the wrong department. It took a week to straighten it out. Once the correct office recieved my papers... I was approved in 2 days! I was given the soonest surgery date with was May 12th. So long story short..... January 8th (first visit).... Surgery May 12th!!!!!

Introducing the May Bandsters
HI Everyone! My name is Melissa. I live just south of Fort Worth in Burleson Texas. I am 46, happily married and have 2 wonderful boys age 13 & 10. I am incharge of an Elementry School Science Lab. And like the Lab... I am fun and messy. My BMI is currently 46  and I have always had to struggle (usually not very sucessful) with my weight. I was plump and full of energy in my teens and 20's, overweight/obese and full of energy in my 30's and early 40's and now I am in my mid 40's and my weight is kicking my butt! I am on high blood pressure meds., I am diabetic and my feet hurt if I am on them too much. I need to be healthy for my family. I am going to change all that starting May 12!! I will be banded on that date by Dr. Ferrara in Fort Worth. I can hardly wait!! It is great getting to read about all of y'all and I am looking forward to reading your post and hearing how you are doing on your journey!

Your Aetna experience?
When they required 5 years history I had dipped below 35 bmi (34 still very close). I told my doctor that to lose that weight I had to eat hamburger meat and bacon for 3 months (Adkins diet). That I could not eat like that for the rest of my life and when I went back to eating regular food, the weigth came right back. That is the reason I want the band because doing a crazy diet does not work in the long run, I need perment help! They told me I would probably need to write a letter explain how I lost the weight and how rapidly the weight returned. Ask your doctor about this option.

How much time off??
I am trying to decide how much time I need to take off from work after surgery. My date (I can't believe I finally have one!) is May 12th, a Monday. I work in a classroom, so it isn't a physical job. What do you 40 year olds suggest? Looking to hear advice from y'all who have been there and done it already! Thanks!

Calling all SHRINKO de Mayo's
Hey I just made my 1st ticker. I have been waiting till I was close to a banding date. I also made Shrink logo. How does it look? Sorry I have posted 3 in a row. It looks odd but I am so excited about finally being an offical something!

May Name
Someone has suggested Shrino-de-Mayo. I think that is a little more sassy & fun (like me?). Like Beautiful Brown said... we can be what we want to be. Maybe in the future I will feel like a Flower but that just doesn't fit me now.

Calling all SHRINKO de Mayo's
Just read the "May Flowers" is the offical name. I am sooooo much more a Shrinko-de-Mayo than a flower! haha!

Calling all SHRINKO de Mayo's
I love Shrinko de Mayo!!!!! That is the best name I have heard for any month! I am getting banded on May 12th!! Can not wait!! Hey, I am a southern missy too, a Texas Missy. All the missy version that I could think of were taken so I went for meliss, which I go by also.

Your Aetna experience?
I just got approved using the 3 month regime too. As I understood it... a regular doctor would need a 6 month plan and a Weight lose doctor who has a dietitian on staff would only require 3 months. But you needed a month consultations with the Dietitian. I took the short road and there was no problem!

Approved!!!!
Congratulations! I got a message yesterday that I was approved!!!!! I am so happy. I was scheduled today for May 12th. That seems a long way away but I know it will be here soon. If I could have I would have jumped on a gurney the day I went to the "Free Seminar"! Let us know when you get your date!:w00t:

I got a message today........ I Got APPROVED!!! I got the call from LBS (Dr. Ferrara) today, but, only received their message after the office had closed. I will call tomorrow to schedule a date! I can't believe it!! I don't know when, but..... someday soon I will not be diabetic, I will not have foot pain, I will not have various body parts go numb while I sleep, I will be able to keep up with my boys and I will not worry about being seated in a Booth, etc..... I guess I could go on forever! ( I was getting a little carried away there):crying:
