Office Worker tips.
I had the same problems! I keep some sugar-free candies next to me (tip from another bandster). But, really, when I see someone walking past w/a Reeses, I practically drool. I hate Halloween! My inner child has definitely left the building.

as far as I know, you just click chat at the top of the page. I think you can make new rooms, but I'm not sure how to do that...

Spring/Woodlands Area?
I would love to meet and have some band talk! I try to discuss it w/my friends and family and they just look at me.

My new furniture arrives today...
My 10-year old daughter does the same sort of stuff. A few times now, she's brought her leftovers in from the car (an accomplishment in itself) and then left it on the counter - right beside the refrigerator! C'mon! The BF does the same stuff. 1/2 full cups on the dresser, in the bathroom, clothes on the floor beside the hamper. Is effort just not in their vocabulary?

OMG!!! Totally Gross!!
LOL I'm laughing my butt off, cause that is so true! I've had this happen a couple times, while at the table waiting for it to go down or come up. Sometimes it clears because it was just too big of a bite. My family looks at me with so much concern! And they ask questions - "Are you okay? Can I do anything? What's wrong? Was it the chicken, the peppers...etc" I know they're trying to help, but I CAN'T TALK RIGHT NOW!

Spring/Woodlands Area?
I thought I'd posted to this...but I guess it got lost. Sorry if you receive this twice. I was banded by Dr. Jason Balette, from the Surgical Group of the Woodlands. He's great! I really do love him and his office staff. Good people! I live in Spring, near 45 and 1960 and I work in the Jersey Village area (near 8 and 290). How are you doing since surgery? Have you been filled yet? I had my first on Friday, and boy! I feel it! Where is Dobbin? I moved from VA in June 2006, and am still unfamiliar with the areas around Houston.

My first official R&R...Bandsters who dont know a damn thing about banding
I have to put in my $.02 because, 1) I'm a moderately educated newbie, and 2) I was "educated" by looking into the internet, and by speaking to people who have had different types of WLS. 1) I thought I was fairly understanding of problems and issues until I went through it. My doctor has been great and answers questions that I ask openly and willingly. However, I'm sure his only reference for what's "normal" is what his patients are telling him. Which, could mean they're telling him they PB every meal, etc. 2) Researching anything on the internet is tricky. You never know what to believe. I've been to the nutritionist and will go again until my head catches up to my band. But, everyone seems to be different. Latching on to the 1 out of 100 that replies that they are like you, should be a BIG RED FLAG that something is wrong. So, I completely agree with the 2nd motive in those posts. At the same time, I can see where it's comforting to find someone who's having those same issues. I don't think that should ever replace doctor's advice/instructions, but sometimes a person may just want sympathy, support, and solidarity right then and there. Also, it may take someone months before they realize they really are responsible. I know I heard and read everywhere that this is not a miracle, it's a tool. But, I really didn't believe it until I was in it. I still thought it was going to be easy. But, the challenges of weight loss are still there, only now I can't give in or I'll be sick. I don't like being sick, so I'm being very careful of what I eat (mostly...I have caved here and there and learned a hard lesson!) Unfortunately, the ones being discussed here are probably not reporting their mis-band-behavior to their doctors, so the reports going out about the band are skewed. I think as long as the successful ones are out there promoting it and maybe talking to their doctor about the things learned on these sites (good and bad), then maybe not too much harm will be done. And, more posts like this helps nix the ignorance. I know I've learned so much by reading the success stories here. Okay, so that's more like my $2.00 - Inflation's a bitch, ain't it?

Sipping through a straw
This topic is so interesting to me! I've been out and about and accidentally sipped through a straw since being banded. My daughter and BF will grab it out of my drink and say, "no!" I get miffed because so far, nothing has happened - I didn't even notice I was using a straw! And, I have a weird hang up about drinking from the glass...forks, spoons, etc - Fine. A glass??? Ick. So, I think I'll start slowly on the straw thing. I've been missing it.

Venting about changes in my lapband program
I am so sorry. This makes me nervous about my future with my doctor. So far he's been so wonderful - I love him and rave about him and his office staff. He did my first fill, and he knew exactly where to go. I'd be nervous about someone else doing a fill...I do NOT want to be poked and prodded. Again, I'm sorry. I hope you find someone else that's better (for your health and sanity!)

I'm going to have to force myself to eat.
I get hungry, but when I try to eat I can only take a couple of bites. I get that "buffet feeling" from 1/4 cup of soup! Today I ate more - the whole bowl of Soup - and some chicken for dinner. I thought I was TERRIBLE today until I put my food journal into fitday.com. I was under 1000 calories!!! I've never (pre-banding) eaten less than that. I felt stuffed so I thought I was bad. I love it, I love it, I love it!!! I'm GIDDY!

Do you think it's rude to correct another's grammar?
Yes! I agree that it's rude. Especially if you're normally a very well spoken/written individual, and you just make a mistake because you're rushing. A few of my friends are always rushing and when they send emails there is ALWAYS a mistake. I can bet on it. But, I'd never say anything to them. 1) They are adults and not children, and 2) I know them to be very intelligent people. I have edited some of their emails before when they've asked me to, but NEVER if they don't ask for advice. That said, I do correct my daughter and her friends. She's 10 years old and needs the correction because she doesn't KNOW.

it appears i've lost my motivation ...
I think your quote says a lot: Exercise for the body you want, not for the body you have. If you're happy where you are, then can you maintain it with your current actions? If not, can you focus on changing one thing at a time? It sounds like you're being very hard on yourself for a bunch of different things. (Which we're all guilty of doing!) :Banane35: Try to relax and pick one thing to work on. Nix sweets for 2 weeks, work out the way you want every day for 2 weeks, etc. Just one thing. If you're spread thin, (no pun intended) then you won't have the energy to fix everything that you see is wrong. After you've gotten good at one thing, move on to the next "problem". You'll gain confidence in yourself and the motivation will come with each accomplishment. Baby steps...

What is your favorite cliche expression that you wish you didn't use?
:Banane35: LOL I'm either a dork, or a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.

Woo Hoo!!
Woo Hoo!!! :Banane35: Way to go! As of right now I've lost 28 pounds in 63 days. Better than any diet I've ever been on! I love the band!

What is your favorite cliche expression that you wish you didn't use?
I wish I didn't use LIKE. I picked that up in the 80's, and I remember my mother HATED IT. So, of course I used it more. Now I have to force myself not to say it. Instead, I try to replace it with, "it's as if," so that way if "like" doesn't fit, I can't use it. Another on my list is, "Cool Beans" and "Dude". <sigh> I know..I know... I am a dork.

Unfriendly Friends
:Banane35: Thank you. I have a 10 year old that I'm trying to set a good example for, too. So, even though my friends are important, I have got to do this for me. ******** And, sorry for all the posts folks. I don't know how to multiquote! Please PM me and let me know how...? Thanks.

Unfriendly Friends
I've never been thin. I was 12/14 in high school when we met, but I had the fat mentality and dressed in size 20s sweaters and jackets! By the end of high school I was a 20, then up and up from there. But now, down and down! :clap2:

Unfriendly Friends
Thank you! Part of my makeup is GUILT! :Banane35: I feel guilty, and I need to stop! I get angry at her for hurting me, then feel bad that I got mad. I usually can see the other side of things, so I do know where she's coming from and I don't want HER to be hurt. In the end, though, we're both hurting. The resentment you're talking about is something I was hoping to avoid. I am worried about her, though. I worry that she'll get depressed and eat more. She's on the verge of losing her job, and I'm scared that stress will be too much for her. I'm not sure how to bring all this up, either. She's very defensive and stubborn. I'd rather avoid an argument if all it does is make her feel worse. I'd like to have a conversation about my weight loss with her, but I'm not sure that's possible right now.

Unfriendly Friends
My friend and I are like you and your friend. Both around the same weight, but she's taller so carries it better than I do. She has a twin sister tha was always thin, or what I call "normal" size. So, I was her relief when she wanted to be comfortable being fat. We've been through the, "I'm just going to be fat and happy, damnit!" phase, and the "What's wrong with me" pity parties together. So, you're right - our focus needs to change from food to our other common interests.

BooBoo - I'm sorry to hear about your friend. That's a terrible reaction! I'd like to think that if I were thin, I'd be supportive of people losing weight and being healthly and not jealous of them.

Unfriendly Friends
Tonight I had a conversation with my friend (best friend for over 16 years). She was asking me about my weight loss and what I weighed now. As of this morning I am 267, down from 295. She said, "Oh! Three more pounds and I'm going to hate you! I've always been at least 10 pounds lighter than you. If I weigh more than that, I'll hate myself!" WTH? I kind of laughed it off, since I really didn't know what to say. I love her, but that stung. I'm the fat one, right? Uggg. Any one else have this issue with friends? Did the friendships last through the weight loss? Did it help overweight friends to focus on a weight loss plan/get surgery?

Human beings eat WAY too much food...
I'm not an Oct bandster (mine 9/5) but I can definitely relate. The other day my family and I went out, and I got something off the kids menu and I couldn't eat it all. I just sat there amazed. I had the stuffed feeling that you get leaving a buffet, but I'd only had 4-5 bites! It was great! But I watched the rest of my family down everything, then eat mine! Portion control is a big problem, and people are getting bigger because of it. Ever see the movie Super Size Me?

I'm bored...
Wheetsin - LOL...it's been a long day! I read that as GUM, and couldn't figure out what it was. Ahem - - I get it now.
