  1. I'm a little nervous delving into my family history. I'm not sure why. I think 1, I won't find anything. From what I understand, we were all just dirt poor farmers that never really kept records. 2, what if they all were crooks? Not joking, I seem to have a lot of bad blood that runs in my family, so I'm not sure I want to know the family tree.
  2. I've been thinking about this because of a personal situation and wanted to know what others thought. My own experience is different than what's listed below, but I have worked with two people in the exact circumstance that I'm outlining here: Two co-workers, same work experience, same hire date. One is a man, one is a woman. The man has no kids, no family. The woman has no kids, no family. In the next 10 years, the man still has no kids, no family. The woman has gotten married and had 6 children. They make the same amount of money. Is this fair? I say no, because she's used more of the company's resources for health insurance and leave time while the man has worked more hours than she has. He's been on call more times than she has, and works late and on the weekends. It's tough for me because I'm a working mom and I see the benefits of each side; however if I am being fair from a co-worker standpoint, I don't see the equality in this scenario.
  3. I read the book and was reading a sad part at Jiffy Lube waiting on an oil change. I was bawling and tryin to be discreet - wasn't happening. The lady behind the counter made a comment about the book being that good, and I said, sobbing, "Y-y-e-s-s-s....It-is-gooooood!" sob. sob. sob. So, yeah. I am hesitant to watch the movie - because 1) will it be as good? and 2) I need to buy tissues first. Saw one movie over the weekend. We indulged in a "scary" flick and saw The Alphabet Killer with that chick from Dollhouse. Yeah...scary movies sometimes just suck. I won't even rate this it was that bad. We have 7 Pounds at home, but DH doesn't want to see it, so I'm waiting for some me time. Haven't gotten it yet.
  4. How long have you worked there? Do you have proof of weirdness, or good strong history of your own personal record? Anyone new there that doesn't know what they're doing, or someone that you know is out to get you? I'm so sorry! That must be very frustrating - good luck with the boss.
  5. I love the food porn tv, too! :beer_yum: I never know what I'm doing in the kitchen, but every now and then some of it sinks in. I'm the only one that like salmon, so I'm on my own there. And I love salmon. Yes...karma! :lurk5: There it is again! I really don't blame the mothers...they're doing what they want. Who wouldn't want to work in their PJs...kids or no kids??? I think the managers and workplace have a hard time regulating that, and I'm not sure it'll get better any time soon. So...she has her kids (she's still not in, btw) and I have my LBT. I think that's fair.... It's only 9:30...my tummy is rumbling. After pb'ing the shake this morning and then after calming down now I'm hungry!
  6. I may get reamed for saying this, BUT, I have a hard time swallowing the family pill. She has 3 kids, 2 under the age of 2. In 2 years, she's had 12 weeks time off, plus her regular 4 weeks/year for vacation (she's been here a while). I get 2 weeks, and because I'm not pregnant or planning to be, then I'll get 2 weeks next year, then the year after, etc. Something isn't fair here. Also, I used to joke with a pregnant coworker of mine at the last job (same company, different location.) She and this other guy had been there the same amount of time - both hired on on the same day, both with the same amount of experience. She got paid the same as he did. But...In the 10 years they'd been there, she's had 6 kids. He's had none. She's taken time off for doctors, then maternity, then when the kids were sick....etc. He worked non-stop, taking his regular vacation when he could, and some comp time as vacation, he covered her when she was out and was the on-call guy when more times than she was. So...why was their pay equal? God, I'm a radical pro-woman lady most of the time, so part of me is yelling at me for even saying that. But, all things equal - it wasn't. He worked harder than she did - for the company. I'm not arguing working and having kids is tough - but it's a personal choice and one that I believe shouldn't effect ANYONE else. Including co-workers, other family members, society...etc.
  7. Raw or cooked? I can handled them cooked, but raw? Never have been able to do it. What happened in the dream???? It's not really her I'm upset with. She's lazy, that's fine...I spend a lot of time online, so it's not really that. It's the wall the managers put up between us. They cater to her, but not the other two of us here. They really bend over backwards to make sure she's happy, they'll take her to events and make it obvious that if the manager was to leave, she'd be next. That's not her fault...it's theirs. People do what they're allowed to get away with, and she's allowed to get away with more. If they're turning a blind eye, and I talk to her what if she feels like I crossed the line? Then what? Either she'll think I'm out of line and "tattle" on me, or she'll brush me off. Either way, she's not giving up time with her kids at home because I don't like her hours. That's the sucky part. It's my thing to try to deal with for my own. DH says just be happy that I have my online time while she's getting away with murder. It does appease my guilt, so I really need to just deal with it internally and try to calm down. I'm really not a morning person anyway and coming into a pile of work that she avoided last night pisses me off. BUT. I am just the "backup" for her. Technically, I don't have to do it. I'm just kind of anal, and end up doing it anyway - again - my own issues to work out. I've babbled...sorry ya'll! Back to fish (yes...fish is alway revelant, even 5 million pages later!)
  8. No official gym exercise but we raked the yard, weeded, trimmed, etc for 2.5 hours yesterday. Way more exhausting than the gym, and I can't wait to get back tonight.
  9. Morning... I'm trying to feel better about Princess, but I came in this morning to emails in our shared inbox that came in right after I left yesterday (4:47 was the first one) Not one was even opened. I'm already pb'ing my breakfast shake. And, I'm chanting my karma mantra to the Rocky theme (last post wins got to me).
  10. Da-da-daaa da-da-daaaaaa da-da-da-da-da-da-daaaaaa (That's my attempt at the Rocky theme song.)
  11. yes! Karma. She did just have a baby. That sucks enough without a bitchy coworker making it worse. I'll be good. LOL
  12. PJTP - Why am I bothered by this? Princess is back at work today after her leave...arrived at 11am. Think she'll actually work her 8 hours today? Um, no. You know, while she was preggers it was one thing: doc visits, morning sickness and dragging because you're bloated and tired - I GET it. I've been there. Last 2 months of pregnancy she was lucky to get in by 10 each morning and leave right after 4:30 (the boss leaves at 4, how convenient.) I know what time she leaves because I carpool w/DH who works ungodly hours and will be here an extra hour usually each day. But, she's the golden child here and can get away with that, even though I back her up and see all the mistakes she makes. So why? Why am I so bothered by this, and how do I let it go? She's fun! She's really cool, and she's the kind of person you can hang out with at lunch and have a great time with. But, damn it! Work your full 8 like I do! Help! I need a mantra to get over the jealous/anger/indignant and self righteousness that I feel.
  13. Welcome back Susan! Saw your note on FB...sounds crazy and I can't wait for the recap. Enjoy your nap - I'm jealous!
  14. I know, I know...I met him at the firm I worked for. None of the 30+ CPA's were that bad. He was just different in many, many ways and the money was one. LOL...but, he taught me to be better with my money. I'm still not as cheap, er *thrifty* as he is, but I'm much better in my spending sprees. I hate purses, but I need them. I've gone from having the little wallet purses to the big-ass fits-the-kitchen-sink ones. I still haven't found one I really like. Me, too! Fish makes me gag! Anna can make a good burger. She puts Italian dressing in it and stuffs it with cheese. Sooooo good! Ahhh, Tappy, don't be cranky! It's a short week for us; you, too right? Just hold on to that. I hate snow, too...that's why I moved to Houston - AND IT SNOWED THIS YEAR!!! I couldn't believe it. And, this morning it was cold - in the 50's! I'm wearing a sweater today and Friday when I got home I had on a tank top. This crazy weather is driving me batty. Good morning all! I'm just glad to be at work. Another round of layoffs has started and I just pray I'm not one of them.
  15. Fanny, 'grats on the bf and the house!!!! Ours is on the market and I hate it! I hate having to live like I don't actually live there, and I just wish the process was over with. PJTP - been to the gym 4 days in a row...One more day and DD and I get manis! (It's a win-win for me, because she motivates me to go, plus the manis will be good bonding time for us. She has no idea I'm tricking her! Ha!)
  16. Amen to that! The way it should be.
  17. Oh, no...I'm kinda anal too. That's why by the end of the relationship, I'd gotten him to lighten up some from serial numbers and data entries. Though, I guess before we got too serious, he really had a lot of time on his hands  then he met me! My till was NEVER short and ALWAYS in order. Heads up, chin to the left. It drives me nuts when I get money from the bank and it's all over the place. I guess in the grand scheme of things it's not important, but I like my money in order.
  18. Okay, I'm not going to lay out numbers like ya'll, but I want to do 30 minutes every day after work with my daughter. I want to rotate arms, legs and cardio. We've gone every day this week and I promised her a manicure on Sat if we go for one week straight. I think going after work is easier than getting up in the morning.
  19. I just realized that El Diablo/Dan is right. I am a Newbie Snob. I haven't spent much time out of the Lounge/Rants area lately. I just spent about 20 minutes going through some of the other sections and realized it was icky. I don't like the "What's a PB" - even though I know I asked it. I don't like the "I haven't lost a thing since surgery last week...What to do?" I don't like the "I was banded yesterday and I just ate pizza and chicken wings and ice cream and the contents of the refrigerator, will I be okay?" I really HATE the "You'll be fine!" I spent just a few minutes reading this stuff and am thoroughly disgusted by it. Kudos to those of you who spend time and patience answering and explaining and being SO GOOD. That's just not in me. I LOVE PJTP and the Rants.
  20. :smile2: lol... True, true she can't manipulate like Ron, therefore she's no real threat to the real star on the show (Tara). If Ron can get everyone eliminated except for his son, I'd be okay with that. I like Mike, too. I'd rather see the blue whiny baby cousins (even though Sione is soooo good looking) go home before Ron. I hate whiny temper tantrums more than I hate manipulativeness. At least one takes brains.
  21. I would love to do the fat test, but not until I'm sure I'd be pleased with the results! PJTP - I'm HUNGRY today. I've have 4 goals that I'm trying to work on in order to re-jump start my weight loss. 1 - no salt 2 - low carbs 3 - add exercise 4 - add water I have been sucking down water like crazy this morning. I didn't bring a mid morning snack, so I'm hurrying the clock along to lunchtime!
  22. I woke up this morning, the sun was shining so brightly! But wait! That's not the sun...that's the shine on my trophy!
  23. Pretty much insane. He was very regimined about a lot of things. Until I came along and blew all his plans to hell! That's what we fought about most...me telling him he did not getting any enjoyment out of life, and him trying to explain to me that he WAS actually enjoying all that crap. By the end of our dating, he only kept his money in order by denomination and no longer by serial numbers.
  24. I had a huge drinking problem in my younger days. I used to joke that I was part Irish and part Cherokee, so I love to drink, but can't handle it. Now, though, I think a part of my addictive personality has buried itself, or gone away for good. I'm not really addicted to anything but food (and I'm kinda breaking that now.) I can drink socially and get drunk every now and then and be fine. I would not drink and drive, though I have in the past. I do regret it, and would NEVER do that again. I have folks in my family who have been to prison for manslaughter while drunk driving and it's sad. It's definitely a wake up call. And, Tap - the autospy and body prep work as a punishment is so PERFECT! It makes so much sense.
  25. I dated a guy who kept a list of his money in serial number in a spreadsheet. Each morning, he'd make a list. That was CPA in VA that I left to come to TX. Best. Move. Ever.
