Cheated every day of 7 day pre op diet
Ever since they took my soaps off the air, some of these threads are a pretty good substitute. I imagined I saw some hair pulling, and some name calling, and hair flipping going on. We are a support group. But start up a thread where you admit you are cheating can cause some real people with real feelings want to jump through these pages and make you see the light. I am truly happy you postponed, because as I said a few pages back, IMHO you aren't ready. Maybe you are now. But the people who have been there and done that know what a mistake it would've been to go ahead with the surgery if you had cheated. Do you realize the liquid diet is to shrink your liver? If your Doc gets in there and see's a fatty liver, he may close you up and say...come back when you're ready. OR...a Greedy Doc will perform OPEN surgery and gut you like a fish. Afterall...You signed a paper that said he could. So folks are just looking out for you so you have the best and healthiest outcome. All the best. Sherrie

Not really sure I'm happy with my gastric sleeve surgery choice
I had to attend a 2 hour class with my bariatric centers nutritionist to explain every part of the new way of eating from pre op to years down the road. In fact it is a requirement that you attend before they will submit to insurance for approval. It is spelled out very clearly. I am sorry your center did not provide the necessary information to you. I feel very fortunate in that respect. Best of luck in learning what you need to know

4 days post op....
@@laurenella82 So glad to hear you are doing fine. Your Dad sounds like my hubs. I am imagining him saying the same thing when I wake up in recovery.....In my mind I can hear my husband say..."you don't look any smaller to me!" lol

Anyone try hormone replacement therapy
I've been on an estrogen patch for about 25 years as well. Had a radical hystectomy...had it all removed when I was pretty young. I saw no reason to keep any of those parts, since I didn't want children (I had 2 beautiful step sons). I keep asking my OBGYN when I can get off of them, and he says not till I'm in my 60's. I'm 53 in 2 weeks. Once I have to stop using the patch prior to surgery I am afraid of how I will feel, what I will go through since I've never experienced menopause. But if I could stop altogether I would. But, he says I need if for my bones (hmmm, who knew?)

Happy birthday? No, not Happy! Rant
I haven't had the surgery yet, but my pre op liquid diet is my birthday week at the end of Feb. The things we do to get healthy, right!! @@Jazmundo I am really happy to hear you called your doctor right away before the dehydration got a good hold on you. I'm looking forward to reading how much better you feel once you are back on your feet. Take care, Sherrie

Constant Changes
You can actually GAIN weight if you have too much protein. So you need to be careful to stay in the range the Doc tells you. Plus it's hard on your liver and other organs to process so much protein.

Should I send the hubs home, or have him stay and wait?
Thanks Kathy! I love reading your posts. You are always so positive, and wise.

EGD?
lucky you!!

EGD?
I believe this is a requirement for everyone. To look for hernias, and to check for H-pylori, and get you on antibiotics before the surgery. You want to rid your body of the h-pylori. Lots of people have it and don't even know it, and it is a real problem for the old tummy.

Syntrax Nectar?
Fuzzy Navel and cookies and cream!!

New to fifties group
I got my psych clearance! My EGD is next Friday, then the nutritional class is the 25th! Only a matter of time now, whenever UHC approves the surgery. Hope it's soon.

What are your thoughts on smoking before and after Gastric bypass surgery
Smoking causes ulcers, and there is a risk of not healing properly, which can cause leaks. Just sayin'
-
I'm afraid I'm not going to get approved!
UHC doesn't care if you had a loss or gain just that you went every month.

Day after tomorrow!
We will all be expecting a shout out from you once you are able after the surgery. So excited for you!!!

Need support!
Well, this site is a great support group. Also the bariatric center you use should also have a support group that meets a few times a month. You also should have a psychologist working with you, along with your dietitian, and nutritionist and surgeon. You are not alone, believe me. There is a "team" of professionals who work with you to help you achieve your goals. And when your Dad sees your awesome progress he will have no choice but to jump on board the support train. Best of luck to you in your pursuit of great health.

Need support!
Even though there are risks, they are WAY less than many other surgeries out there, or even obesity itself. PLUS.......technology and surgeons expertise has improved greatly over the years, and it is a much safer procedure than it used to be. The complications you hear about these days are nausea, vomiting, and (rarely) a leak. Getting healthy is the goal.

Need support!
Welcome! You mention your Dad is against it, and will be mad and distant with you. Are you an adult. I don't mean to insult you but, if you are an adult, it's your decision, not Dad's. Does he not want you to be healthy?
