  1. @@Big Opie Welcome! You appear to be in the right place. I am old enough to be your Mom, but I totally feel your pain. I'm right there with you. I broke a chair last Christmas at my sisters house, in front of EVERYONE! Read through the forums...the titles may spark your interest. There are a lot of really amazing, wonderful people here who are always willing to help, encourage, and provide you some tough love if you need it. I have been on BP now for nearly a year, my surgery is mid April, so I have been "educated" on some things we don't talk about at the nutritionist visit, or Psych visit. Do yourself a favor, and have a sleep study done, and get it overwith. Even if you don't have sleep apnea, it's a hurdle you'll get over ahead of time. Plus, if you do have sleep apnea, you NEED to have your CPAP with you at the hospital for after surgery, so you do not have sleep problems there. Have you already discussed this with you insurance company? Make sure you find out their "requirements", sometimes you can double up, and get many things done pretty quickly. Best of luck to you on your journey to great health. Keep in touch with us. Now that you've introduced yourself, we'll want to keep up with you to know how you're doing.
  2. This is great news! Happy days!!! I can't wait to join all you "losers"! HA!
  3. I began my journey on 4/1/14 (I quit smoking for the sole purpose of having this surgery). I didn't have insurance that covers the surgery (my hubs), so I intended to take out insurance thru my employer in October 2014. (which was not in effect until 1/1/2015). (This was the time I had to ....um....put on "a few" pounds). On June 2, 2014 I had my 1st of 6 PCP appointments to record my weight and discuss diet and exercise. On July 3rd I had a sleep study, found I had sleep apnea...2 weeks later I had Pulmonologist appt, and picked up my CPAP. On Jan 2 2015 I had my first appt with the Bariatric Center.....Had my Psych visit on 2/10, Had my Nutrition class on 2/11, my EGD on 2/25, approved 3 days after the hospital submitted it to insurance and I am awaiting surgery on 4/23. So, in all actuality, this process took me a year and 23 days. (disclaimer.....I will not start smoking again! This is all about ME and good health). The waiting will not kill you. As fast as time fly's, it will be here before you know it....then you'll say...."where did the time go?!" Keep on keeping on!
  4. @@lauren8486 I had to do the same thing. I was not quite heavy enough for insurance to cover it. I had to gain. Now I am miserable, also. My surgery is 4/23, THANK GOD! I want this weight GONE! I just cannot wait to not be hungry, to not enjoy food, to watch the pounds melt away. That may a little over-dramatic..but I get it! Hang in there. I think you and I are on our way to slimness and good health.
  5. at my office they'd steal it for the tupperware container.
  6. Never seen it, but I hear people talk about it all the time at work. I don't understand why a show about obese people is such a huge draw. But everyone at work talks about it non stop, always putting down Penny. So sad.
  7. @@Elode What a gorgeous family!! You are an inspiration!
  8. I see it now!! Venus & Mars collide! Now I will know what to look for. I expect this one will be a little spicy!!
  9. Oh man @@Elode I want mine gone from everywhere too! now! lol
  10. So, what is this forum?? I found you under new content, I don't go to specific forums. I just look at who started the thread, or who responded to it, or if the title interests me. I will admit to posting in the guys room. I guess being married for a million years and raising 2 boys (men) I felt entitled. That, and nothing offends this old gal.
  11. I used them when I was on Slim4life. You can order them from Diet direct also. They aren't bad.
  12. nothing works! I've tried everything!! the big bra, the body shaper (that I didn't know went up from the bottom, till it got wrapped around me like a rubber band, and I couldn't struggle out of it). The hubs got a BIG laugh out of that! He had to tug it off of me! HA! Sooooo ready for this surgery!!
  13. I want to know when the back fat goes away! I really REALLY hate the back fat! (and the "shelf")
  14. I had to look at my pre-op instructions again. I am supposed to have 4 Protein shakes a day, and fill in with broth, Water, SF Jello, SF Popsicles, Crystal Lite, G2 Gatorade. Mine starts on 4/16. Only a week. I plan on sleeping when I'm not at work. And dusting I definitely need to do some dusting. Keep my hands busy and the house clean.
  15. Talk about beating a dead horse (no offense to horse lovers...I love them too),
  16. Welcome! nice to see another new face! I am still waiting for my surgery in April. Love reading everyone's experiences. Thanks for posting!
  17. This is really something. That's all I got. But, at least I do have some drama to come home to since they took my soaps off the air. Carry on.
  18. Whew! That wore me out. Nighty night.
  19. @@Elode where have U been?! lol Quite a thread 'eh?!
  20. I rushed home just to read this thread.
  21. My husband of 28 years isn't supportive either. Soon you will learn to ignore him. Most generally if it isn't about HIM, or it isn't HIS idea, it's wrong, so, I just ignore him. But that isn't stopping me from taking care of me. If he really loves you he will come along for the ride, and stick around just like the vows say! He is probably just worried about the risks, which, these days there are fewer than there used to be. Maybe he should have a discussion with the surgeon and voice his concerns. The surgeon can provide him with real statistics that are eye opening.
  22. I can raise my right eyebrow independently.
  23. I am exactly 1 month from my surgery today! I have 3 weeks till my pre-op liquid diet. It still seems far away somehow.
  24. yep. Check with your bariatric coordinator with your insurance co. My requirements via UHC were to meet with my PCP monthly to discuss diet, and weight management, but there were no specific amount of months to do this (I did 6 before knowing that) and there were no stipulations that I had to lose. Thank goodness. But I knew that going in. My insurance prior to this year was BCBS of Kansas City, which excludes WLS for any reason. So, I took insurance out this year with my employer for the first time since I was hired 15 years ago, and on January 2nd I applied for the bariatric program, and was approved. Psych clearance is required, meet with your PCP about weight management for no required time, and use a COE and Dr in their COE program. Luckily UHC is easy peasy! Good luck to you with BCBS. Many people have great experiences with BCBS. Call them. They'll tell you what you need to do.
