Your surgeon sounds like a complete asshole, to be blunt. I am sorry he treated you like that and sorry he didn't offer support and guidance instead of just berating you. Can you call his office and ask for a referral to a registered dietitian who works with bariatric patients? You might get more solid information and a much more helpful attitude from a dietitian than from a surgeon (some of them are notorious for being great at cutting, and not so great at anything else).
Also, for Constipation and Vitamin concerns, you might check in with your primary care provider rather than the surgeon. That peson would also likely be more supportive and helpful, and they should be just as qualified to treat those issues as a surgeon (if not more qualified).
Again, I am sorry your doctor is being a jerk. Don't let him make you feel like a failure! You are asking for help and want to do the right thing, you can't be a failure. Keep going!

I don't think any surgery "guarantees" a certain amount of loss. You still have to follow your program.

You are already looking at your options & that is a good thing. Knowing ahead of time what you will order will make eating out much easier. I would stay away from buffets. Good luck with your dinner.< /p>

Thanks for the update. I am glad they were able to figure out what it was and at least treat the pain. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

first...who told you that? It was probably someone who doesn't know much about the surgery
second...whether you gain or loose weight is all up to YOU and how well you stick to your program.

I hated when people pressed for a number! I felt so monstrous, especially once I hit 100 pounds lost. I was ashamed and I always felt humiliated, especially when they did it around others. Honestly, some of them would just keep pushing and to end the conversation I'd give them a number. I like surfer girl's approach though...if you don't want to give them a number, don't, it's none of their business.
If it makes you feel better, once you're at goal for awhile no one even mentions it anymore so the misery is a short-lived thing.

I understand completely. I decided not to share numbers with anyone. Not even my mother. If some one asks how much I have lost I just say "a lot". If they press for a number I just tell them I don't share numbers with anyone, not even my mother. That usually is the end of it.
You don't owe anyone details and frankly I find it rude when people ask about my weight other than to compliment me on how great I look!

What they really mean is you have lost quickly so they haven't had time to adjust to seeing the new healthy you. Congratulations and remind them it's really about health and not weight.

I'm 5'0 and the smallest I've been in my "adult" years is about 165 ish...I'm 30 lbs from that now at 196, but getting too thin was a concern of mine and my husbands also. He met me at 180 ish and likes me with some meat on my bones, so to speak. I think at our heights, a healthy weight for us is 115-130 ish. I can't imagine being that small either...
As for others saying your wasting away, I think it's because they are used to seeing you at a certain size, so of course, the smaller you get, the more you will seem too small. They will just have to get used to the new you!

I've lost 68 lbs in 4.5 months. I am the smallest I've ever been as an adult at 176.2. But at 5'1", I am not small.
I have not kept my surgery private. People are telling me "you're just wasting away... How much more are you planning to lose????"
My response is usually "yes that's the plan... I want to be a healthy weight for my height."
I get it. I don't even recognize myself sometimes but I definitely don't feel like I'm wasting away.

Tomorrow I am eating at a restaurant with the whole family. It's after my nephews honor concert and we usually stop at a steak place or a buffet place. I have scoped out both menus for good options. I am still on soft foods till January 20th. Here's to making a good choice that will work and not cause problems.

I'm 3 weeks out and had to get fluids a week ago. Not admitted though. I am having no trouble keeping things down though. Not at all even from the beginning. My surgeon told me that they want to hear from me if I'm vomiting AT ALL.
I agree with the others, talk with your doc.

Have you talked to your surgeon? Ive not had any issues after the first few days like that. Pain yes, but not the inability to keep things down. From what I've read you shouldn't be struggling like this. Please call your Dr if you haven't and be checked out. They need to know what's going on so they can help you figure it out. Keep us posted. Good luck.

I'm still about 40 lbs. from my goal, a little more than a year out from surgery, and have been stuck just above 200 for about 5-6 months now. Don't give up. Just because we have smaller tummies now, weight loss still takes a lot of work every day, every meal. I, too, have mixed things up over these months in an effort to jump start losing again. I believe what will work best for me is to go back to drinking more @@powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury shakes to ramp up my Protein intact, even though most days I get the recommended amount. I do get plenty of exercise. Just keep plugging along and doing all that you can.
