maxcimax got a reaction from anna9/15 in Where to buy vitamins?
I get my multi Vitamins from The Vitamin Shoppe. They are specifically made for bariatric patients & they don't cost a fortune. I buy my B12 from Walmart & I get my Calcium chewables from Amazon or Bariatric Advantage. I don't take extra Iron or Vitamin C & my tests have all been normal. I was sleeved over a year ago & have not had any problems.
    Good luck with your surgery.

If you want a smoothie, make one with plain yogurt, a splash of sugar-free flavored Syrup (I like the vanilla and the hazelnut), almond milk or similar, a handful of ice, and about 1/4 cup frozen blueberries. If you have Protein powder, throw a scoop of that in.
Blueberries are one of the fruits that are lowest in sugar.
Just don't have a gigantic serving.

While you are on the puree stage it does seem like a waste. Later when you are on regular solid foods, that is different. You have very little stomach room right now and fruit seems like a bad choice.
Try to find better nutritional advisers.

No, my bariatric program encourages eating fruit -- after we have conquered Protein, colored veggies, and have a little more room left.
I think your surgeon doesn't know squat about nutrition.
Many fruits have a lot more going for them than "just a sugar stick," including Fiber, Vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, phytonutrients.

I have been using Bariatric Advantage and order from their website. My doc required a multi which is what I get from them and a sublingual B12 which I got at Walgreens and they both actually taste pretty good.

I had my gastric sleeve surgery on September 29. It went well and I came home the next day. I was rather wobbly at first, but more steady now. I try to switch the liquids up. My favorites now are: chicken broth, premere chocolate Protein Shakes, and decaffeinated tea. I do not like sweet thinga now. I have not weighed myself yet because I do not want to be disappointed. I see the surgeon Monday. My journey has begun and I am excited. I look forward to fitting comfortably in an airplane seat and getting on the floor to play with my grand children.

All of the above and you can try eating with your non-dominant hand. It'll definitely slow you down unless you're ambidextrous. :-)

You can download the eat slower app. Some people use infant utensil. My NUT had me practice eating slow pre-op. Another thing your can try is being really conscious of how you are eating. No eating while watching tv or being online. If you use a regular spoon/fork, only put food on the very tip. The shew slooowwwly, allowing the food to dissolve n your mouth before swallowing. Then put the utensils down and count to 20. REPEAT.

First off, a sleeve won't stretch because the stretchy part of the stomach is removed. The real danger with eating too fast is that you will bypass satisfied and head right to uncomfortable or worse without realizing it.
Take small bites, chew each bite 20-30 times so you can really taste your food, and put your utensils down after each bite.
Some people even use timers or apps on their phone to help them slow down.
    Good luck. It takes practice.

maxcimax got a reaction from vsgjess in 7 months out- hit a big wall. Not losing at all
I'm glad to see these comments. I'm 8 months out & have been losing weight very slowly these last 2 or 3 months. My support group is starting an exercise class 2 times a week & I signed up for that. I haven't been exercising so I'm hoping this will get me going. I still keep a food diary & I have been eating to many carbs so that is being changed too. Carbs are my biggest enemy.
My weight has been doing the same thing - up 1/2 or even 1 pound & down that much. I just take it in stride & try to be more careful what I eat. I'm thinking of going back on the pre-op diet a couple of days a week & see if that doesn't help.

My friend is Cambodian and makes homemade Pho. And she's sending some broth home with my husband. I'm so beyond grateful and excited to have this in my rotation!!!!! Also on another note. I whipped up some SF chocolate pudding with Protein powder and lactose intolerant milk (it's a little gentler on the system that's in shock) to thin it out. Yum!! Can't wait to make some other flavors!

    Caprice,
Don't let the nurses random UNKIND words get to you. You will be healthier, you will be happier AND IF you should have some excess skin - you will deal with it
You are 27....I'm 44....You have youth on your side skin wise, so that's a plus! If a little saggy skin will mean I can live longer and be happier then so be it.
If I need a skin surgery or two later....then maybe I'll have it done, maybe not.
Careless comments can derail anyone. Don't let them! GOOD LUCK!

I would suggest getting your body fat percentage tested rather than relying on BMI, which was never meant to judge individual health anyway. Body fat percentage would be a much better indicator of how you are doing with respect to weight and health than BMI.

I'm very open about my sleeve. You would be amazed at how helpful waitstaff can be with suggestions on what to eat. I've only had positive responses. A lot of waitstaff are already aware of bariatric surgeries & some know people who have had this surgery.

i gave the clothes i couldn't wear to thrift shop
during my weight loss i went back to that store
found smaller size clothes i could wear as i was losing weight
    what goes around
    comes around
    EEEEEK
as far as saving old clothes "just" in case you gain???
    please don't do that
gives you "a little " permission to say something like "oh well, i gained a bit,
i'll wear the next larger size from my closet
then later the next size, next size etc
don't be a pessimist that you will gain weight
be an optimist that you won't gain weight
realistically, you "might" gain a few lbs here and there
then work extra hard, to lose the weight again
you lost the weight once, you can do it again!!
do not save your old clothes, ok
    85 lbs down!!!
    that's great
    kathy
    congrats

Get rid of them. It you have some favorites or some expensive pieces, consider having them tailored.

I cleaned out my closet in stages. Good riddance!
I did save a few things to give me perspective - some days I pull out my old jeans I wore at my heaviest. It reminds me how big I really got and how much my life was out of control.

Drinking alcohol 15 days post op is VERY dangerous. Alcohol is an irritant to the stomach,'so it might be painful. Your body may process a small quantity of alcohol, as if it was a very LARGE quantity after VSG. Please don't take the risk.
