I ditto teabow. I'm 1 week post op and doing great. I'm virtually pain free and able to eat and drink with no issues. I use a calorie tracker and it helps. Good luck and welcome to your new life. I already feel better and the Diabetes is totally under control. Can't wait to go onto purée food tomorrow. It's amazing how 2 to 4 oz of food makes you full.

tebowfan reacted to angelface811 in Benadryl : Can I take it?
I had allergy to pain med in the hospital and was on benadryl. At home I was instructed to take either liquid benadryl or dissolvable benadryl. It worked. But I would call dr or his/her nurse for dosing.

You should contact your doctor but I would try getting some liquid Benadryl. The pharmacist could tell you an adult dosage of the children's liquid.

So my surgery was May 13. I'm graduating to full liquids tomorrow and Protein Shakes. I still haven't had a BM, it's been 5 days. I'm not uncomfortable and passing gas ok. I've been walking about 20 min everyday. Any body else have the same concern with their BM' s.

Great to hear, tebowfan! How are you feeling now? My surgery is Wednesday. I am terrified! I had wanted to wait until the end of summer but due to insurance changing June 1, I have to do it now.

tebowfan reacted to kimk1999 in Jumping off the cliff
5 months post op and I've been stuck for about 1-2 months with the scale not really budging. Ive been stuck shy of 50 lb mark for too long now. I've gotten frustrated enough to jump off the cliff of the plateau and to push myself more.
I've reduced my calories (esp random snacking), reducing the alcohol and increasing exercise. This morning my scale had said I lost 2.7 lbs! I am excited and noticed again. I question myself if I'm really hungry or bored.
A 3 mile walk on the beach with gorgeous weather definitely helped today. I'm in Florida.
Hope everyone is doing well. How'd you get over your plateau's?

tebowfan reacted to cheryl2586 in Newbie. Beverages, Alcohol, carbonated drinks, caffeine, coffee
I don't drink alcohol because I partied enough for everyone when I was young lol. I do drink coffee though at least three a day. Once in a while now I will have a diet soda but I shake it up to make it kind of flat. I love Water though its a good thing.

tebowfan reacted to James Marusek in Newbie. Beverages, Alcohol, carbonated drinks, caffeine, coffee
Some of the restrictions depends upon the type of surgery. In general,
Avoid drinking caffeinated beverages because it stimulates appetite, irritates stomach lining after surgery and acts like a diuretic.
Avoid carbonated beverages because it causes increase in gas and puts pressure against the healing staple line which can lead to ulcers.
Avoid alcohol because it's empty calories, irritates the new stomach after surgery and may cause dumping syndrome.
In my case, I had a 6 diet Coke per day habit. When I began my medically monitored weight loss program required by my insurance, I went cold turkey on the diet cokes. I had a rough couple weeks because my body was addicted to the cokes. But because I made that change alone, I lost 20 pounds in a few weeks. I suspect the carbonated beverage releases small explosions of carbon dioxide that microscopically expands my stomach. Over time my larger stomach allows me to eat more and I gain weight. When I cut this component out, my stomach grew a little smaller and I lost weight.

I am 8 days out from the bypass and I would take at least 5 straight days off. It's more about being tired. I was so tired and fell asleep easily. I am a person that never took naps before. I have had zero problems and so glad I had this surgery and I love my doc:)

tebowfan reacted to asecondchance in Minor complications...
I was sleeved on May 6. I knew I had a hiatal hernia that was going to be repaired, but when my doc went in, apparently it was HUGE! I was in surgery an extra hour. When I woke up in my room, the only discomfort I had was like gas trapped under my left shoulder. I thought "oh I can deal with this." Then the vomiting started. There was no nausea or anything. Come to find out my esophagus was swollen shut and NOTHING and I mean nothing was getting through. Ice chips, popsicles, SALIVA, nothing! Can you say miserable. I had to stay in the hospital an additional 5 days including mother's day. Finally the swelling went down and I'm able to keep liquids down and I feel 100% better:) Minor setback. Now let the journey begin!!!
