Joining the YMCA or any place that has a pool. Get in and swim. I joined the YMCA June 2013. Did my 6 months of Dr.appts. and all the other requirements my insurance wanted. I did an hour a day in the pool. So much easier on the joints etc. Plus it is a great resistance workout.the day of surgery Dec 26th. I lost 65 lbs. This Thursday will be 16 weeks post op. I have lost another 110 lbs. I still do 45-60 minutes in pool everyday. Then lift for about 20 minutes. Upper body 1 day. Lower body next day. Now that weather is getting better. I walk 3- 6 miles per day. Generally in weekends. This also wrapped around a 55 hr plus work week. The energy will come but you need to do what your team says. I haven't wavered from Vitamins etc. I have tried a few foods that didn't go well. Won't do those again. Water water water. I drink over 100 Oz's a day. I am now off all preop meds. Only thing I take are vitamins. BP in check. Cholesterol in check. Type 2 diabetes. Gone. My team gave me a tool and I am using this tool to its fullest potential.

Sorry for the all caps but I had to shout it out- I am in onederland now. I almost cried. I have posted this in one other place so forgive me. I can't help it. I am so happy. Goodbye 200s forever! FINALLY! I am at the point now where I am really glad to have done this. There were times I really struggled during the couple weeks but then you get used to the new life and all is well. Good luck everyone!

some/many people have problems with pre-op diet/shakes et al
i think/know people feel overwhelmed at times
    cheating alittle too??
    Knock it off!!!
couple of reasons doc wants people to lose weight pre-op
its easier for them to perform surgery, around our fatty liver
they also want you to prove that you can proceed, follow rules et al
    some/many/me hate those nasty shakes

    but their important
there are prepared liquid shakes that don't taste too bad
i think Premier is one of them???
you are still 10 days pre-op..........keep working on eating properly, not as much food too
    but keep plugging away
many of us are overwhelmed at first - and maybe for a while post op too
keep reading the many informative posts
you've been a member here for just over a month
read, read, and read past posts
go to utube and watch some videos
you'll see many encouraging people - before and after pics
    this should help motivate you
i can see the determination in your eyes
you can do this, but you DO have to work at it
some people think that the sleeve is a magic pill
    its not!!!!
the sleeve works with you if/when you work with it
this is hard, and you have to keep up with your proper eating for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life
but.......on the plus (this is a big one) you will be so much healthier, feel & look better too
i no longer take diabetic meds/insulin - no high blood pressure, no CPAP
my big unexpected reward is/was having my epilepsy medication/dosage cut in half!!!!!
    you can/will be successful
you made the wise decision to have the sleeve - don't second guess yourself now
be excited/prepared for a gigantic, wonderful change in your life
no more cheating ok (even if its healthy stuff)
keep telling yourself you can do this
if you hopefully you can succeed....
    i wouldn't cancel
talk to your doc if you are comfortable
hope i didn't lecture too much, but i care, and i know you want to lose your weight for many reasons
    get ready for the 23rd
    good luck
    speedy, good recovery

Just added myself to this group to become more familiar with the struggles, challenges, and successes of weight loss surgery. I currently work in this industry and want to become even better at what I do, which requires a ton of research. It's not that I am a stranger to weight loss by any means, I lost 40 lbs after having my son back in 2011. But even that pales in comparison to what some of my clients and friends have struggled with. So I'm here as a supporter of all of you, cheering you on toward the successes you imagine and define for yourselves, and learning in the process. Cheers!

It's hard to control tone on the internet, so let me say in advance, I mean this in a very gentle way -- please stop letting other people control what you do. First, with respect to your children -- don't let them set the menu. Cut back their snacking drastically* and they'll be hungry at meal time. It's GOOD for children to be a little hungry at meal time. Let them get used to the idea that you make one meal, you are not a short order cook, and if they don't want to eat what is served, that's fine, but that's their only option for the meal.
As for your boyfriend, I am not sure why you are letting him give you orders about going to the gym or not. If you really can't bear to not follow his orders, then keep in mind that exercise is great, but the battle to lose weight is won at the kitchen table, not in the gym. Not going to the gym is not an excuse to just give up and not eat healthy. You can lose weight effectively without doing any exercise.
You have those post-wls cookbooks -- use them! And if you are not a great cook, there are Youtube videos to teach you everything from how to scramble an egg to how to peel an avocado. You can do this! And if you really just hate cooking, you can get a lot of healthy, pre-made foods at stores like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. There are lots of great options out there.
And don't let the stalls and hair loss get you down -- I know they suck, but everyone goes through them and things do turn around. Don't let them throw you off track. Keep following your program. The weight will come off if you are eating anywhere close to right, and your Hair loss will eventually stop and your hair will come back. Don't just despair and decide you can't do it or it isn't worth it -- you can do it and believe me, it is worth it!
    Best wishes to you!
*you don't mention snacking specifically but it seems like most American parents let their children snack constantly, usually on stuff like crackers and granola bars that children don't need. In many countries, children don't snack or have very limited Snacks, like one piece of fruit, yogurt, or a sweet in the afternoon -- and they do just fine! So I am assuming that you are American and that you do what most American parents do with respect to almost unlimited snacking -- my apologies if I am wrong on either count!

I am doing this strictly for myself so that one day I can look back at it. Also, maybe it will encourage some of the new peeps. I started my liquid diet on Monday, February 24 at 241. I am 5'4". I had surgery on March 10. Today, 6 weeks later, I weigh 202. I have lost lots of inches- 5.5 off bust, 9.5 off waist, 8 off hips, 5 off thighs, 2.5 and 2.5 off upper arm. I am hoping I can manage to lose 3 more pounds by April 17 so that I will be under 200 when I go for my next checkup at the doctor. This has been quite an adventure- trying to learn how to get all the fluids in and eating in stages. It has not been easy but has been so worth it. I am beginning to try soft foods like grilled chicken and such. So far, the sleeve lets me know if something is going to settle ok or not and I try to listen to all of it's cues to me. I am beginning to worry when I eat anything solid that I am eating too much but my husband reminds me that a few bites of chicken is like a 10th of what I would have eaten before. It's so mental, all of these adjustments. Lots of my clothes are falling off and then some of the tighter ones (like jeans) just pull up and zip so easily. All I can do is just stand in the closet and laugh when stuff like that happens because it feels so good. I am still trying to get my energy back and get to exercising more regularly. I have to keep reminding myself that I did have a major surgery only a month ago.
