debeade got a reaction from Ms954jkwd in Example meal after gastric surgery?
9 months post-op, RNY, Protein is my main focus then healthy carbs (veggies ) then grains if I have room.
I eat 4 oz max at a meal ...2 oz is dense protein meat usually, 1 oz veggies (carrots ,asparagus , green Beans etc.) and 1 oz grain (quinoa, lentils, chick peas etc.)
A day would go like this
Breakfast - 1/4 cup egg white , 1 oz chicken ,fish, or shrimp, and 1oz of hard cheese. I add 11tbsp salsa for flavoring and make a high protein omelet .
snack - Protein Shake with 2-4 oz of fruit added Frozen berries and or Bananna . I use Body Fortress whey isolate from Walmart.< /p>
Lunch- fish of some kind (tuna, salmon, tilapia whatever is on hand, 2 oz.
Plain Greek yogurt (1oz) , I use it like tartar sauce for my fish
Beans (1oz) chick peas, lentil, kidney beans etc
Supper- chicken or whatever dense protein , ( beef, ham, pork, fish, ) 2 oz.
Veggies raw or cooked, 1 oz. right now I am in asparagus mode
    Quinoa (1 oz)
Snack - (slider protein) fruit flavored Greek yogurt cup or 2 oz cottage cheese with 2 oz fruit or veggies cut into it.
This is just my menu for today, it will get me around 600-650 calories Around 95 protein. Around 35 to 40 carbs and 18 -20 sugars depending on your choices.
I very rarely can finish all four oz. so I make sure I eat my protein first then veggies and grains.
I get between 64 - 80 oz. of liquid daily.
    Good luck on your journey.

No matter how much sagging I get I am still excited to have this chance. I don't think plastics would be good for me b/c I tend to scar very easily. Plus, I really don't want to have to go through all that if possible. I am doing this for my health and activity level so I really don't care too much; I was just curious.
I'd rather look older and be active, and have people say "wow, she's really active for her age" than look younger due to my chubby face and be sitting on the sidelines all the time.

I'm almost 8 months out. Constipation has been my biggest problem. I don't want to speak too soon, but it seems to be better. I've lost 99 pounds. Now my constipation is better and I seem to be in a stall. It is always something!! For constipation, I suggest Smooth Move tea. Also Peppermint tea is a good remedy for your while GI tract. Once you are further down the road, you'll be able to eat more veggies and fruits. If you are having smoothies, throw in some prunes. good luck. it really does get easier.

I did Clear Liquids for a week then full liquids and then at week three soft foods. At 6 weeks I go to normal diet. And all of this is just a guideline. When I went to soft foods if I didn't tolerate it well I could always go back to liquids and try again in a week. Listen to your body. Look at your states board of medical license and see if your doc has had any lawsuits filed against him.

To my understanding Protein Drinks count as a liquid. So I would wait 1/2 hr after eating to have one and treat it the same as I would Water, just with the added bonus of being high in Protein. Post-op 9 months. RNY.

Yes, a lack of Protein and Water can cause weight stalls. When we hit a stall the first rule is to up protein and water then increase your exercise if possible .
Protein is one of the main fuels for our body. We require it to build lean muscle mass, to give us energy and to help maintain general good health.
I am 9 months post RNY and I make sure I get between 80 - 100 grams of protein daily.

Go back to liquids for a day or two. Avoid yogurt for awhile, you may have become allergic to milk products.(lactose).
For the pain all I can suggest is to keep walking and to sip warm broth, tea even just warm Water, hopefully they will soothe your pouch. Best wishes

I'm not sure how many other people struggle like I have to see how my body has changed physically since weight loss. I know what weight I want to be and I know that I want to be a certain BMI. More and more people are saying I can stop losing now but #1. I'm going on 7 months out and my body isn't ready to stop. #2. I don't want to stop and #3. I am happy with my continued weight loss. Nevertheless the comments did make me think.
I found a few websites that were helpful in encouraging me that it's ok to lose more weight so I thought I would share them. It's just for encouragement not to go extra with by the way. Lol. Everything to be used in moderation and with healthy consideration.

O.k. When this happened to me , I took Mialax every hour for 3 hours then again before bed with a dose of MOM(milk of Mag)
I managed to go the next morning. Other WLS patients have needed enemas.
For the 1st month -6 weeks you should be on a stool softener daily.
Remember if you don't drink ,you won't poop.
Eventually you will get on a schedule, for example if I don't go in two days I start my stool softener, then if I still have not gone after the 3rd or 4th day it is MOM time.
Some of us take stool softeners as a daily requirement, but we need to be careful as our bodies can become dependent on them.
I take Benefibre daily (3 teaspoons) but I make damn sure I get 64 oz Water in with it .
I only have to use the softener (miralax) and or MOM about once every other month or so.
    Good luck ......

Are you eating dense Protein, (keeps you full longer), or slider Proteins that slide right on through your pouch?
Dense protein will keep you full for up to 5 hours as long as you don't drink with your meal or for at least 30 minute after
This will sound weird but what you are experiencing is head hunger not real hunger because when they do the surgery they cut the nerves that tell us we are hungry and they don't grow back for 6 - 8 months.
Make sure you are getting your protein, Water , Vitamins and a bit of exercise and you will do great

Milk of Magnesia , an enema, and Water, water, then more water....... Once you have a BM then start using a stool softener , miralax is good but it will take a few days to kick in. But every one here is correct , not going can cause painful problems. So keep on top of it. Should not go more than 3 days without a BM. Post-op 9 months RNY.
    Good luck.

As long as you are sipping and not gulping you cannot overdo you Water. The best thing your body needs right now is fluids to stay hydrated. They DO NOT stretch your pouch, Water runs right through.
In the beginning the only way I could get 64 ounces in was to contastly hold my water bottle in my hand and sip like crazy.
If you drink to fast, you will feel pain from it, I still feel that at 7.5 months post op.
Don't worry it is fantastic that you are able to drink so much. It may be that you are healing quickly and the swelling has gone down for you.
    Congratulations!

Your weight will fluctuate daily. Do not be too concerned about what the scale says. Your body is still very much in a heal mode. Just follow the program requirements. At this stage, Protein, fluids and Vitamins are the most important. food is less so because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you will lose weight.

Found this in an article I was reading:
    "Why is Protein important?
Proteins are a part of every cell, tissue and organ in our bodies. These body Proteins are constantly being broken down and replaced. The body does not store Protein for later use, therefore consuming adequate high quality protein is necessary, otherwise the body will inevitably suffer. When protein intake is not adequate, the body will break down lean body mass to compensate for poor oral intake. Loss of lean body mass is inevitable for WLS patients or individuals following a very low calorie diet. To minimize that loss, sufficient high-quality protein must be consumed."

Depends what you mean by older. I am 60 years old and had my bypass surgery last September. It went really well and I recovered quickly. My problem is how to continue to lose weight as I seem to have hit a plateau. I am still overwieght though nowhere near what I was before.
