Thank you for sharing, making the mental shift is very hard. I am so scared the thin person I see in the mirror will disappear one day...... but everyday is a new lesson and a new Journey. Thank you all for sharing and helping me to know I am not alone.

I did have a few food funerals, but it was always small amounts. I also had a last meal but it was a turkey burger and sweet potato fries.
I do want to share that someone I have met did just as you are talking about and the eating of bad foods and not healthy like they ask of you backfired on her. The reason for the healthy eating is to help our liver be as healthy as possible being that it has to be moved because it sits on top of the stomach. Her surgery ended up taking much longer than expected and she had more complications. The surgeon almost didn't do the surgery because her liver was fatty and when that happens there is a much higher risk of it tearing and causing all kinds of problems.
They ask us to change our eating for many reason and they are all very important, they want our insides as healthy as possible before surgery and second this is a life style change. This is not a temporary fix. If we don't make the long term changes in our habbits and life style the weight will come back. Yes the first year or two it will fall off all the same and you will think it is fine and working because you are still loosing weight but 3 or more years out the weight will come back.
Be careful with your mindset now, the surgery is only on our tummies not our brain.

So this weekend I ran my first chip timed 5k, and hit my surgeons set weight goal!! 140, I would like 3 more pounds so that clothed and not first thing in the morning maybe it will be 140 at the doctors office. But it was fun to accomplish my first fitness goal, and I wasn't the last one to cross the finish line :-) I finished in 34:08, I have never ran that long without stopping!!

I get it. We don't walk around with a mirror all day long so I don't get why people need to talk about it all the time. And yes it is true some people will treat you different.
I am struggling with the comments about how little I am and " what size" are you now? and are you going to stop because you need to stop, and are those kids pants..... sign I love my new body but others are going to take a while to adjust I suppose.

Hey, a little vanity on this journey is okay – it helps keep us motivated. As is a little selfishness. We need to keep our program a priority in our lives and not let anyone derail our progress. Eventually people will probably start to notice and comment on your weight loss. Accept the compliments graciously. I started out saying things like, "Thanks, but I still have such a long way to go." And gradually, I learned that the best answer is, "Thanks for noticing. I've been working hard at it and I feel great!" Try to enjoy the ride!

I suggest saving one or two items that you wore all the time that are your largest sizes for sure.
The fun of trying those on six months from now is well worth it! I have a pair (my largest size pants) of 24. I am currently in a 14 and those /4 literally fall off my body. It's always fun to do a fashion show for my family. They see me everyday and sometimes forget how sick I was. It's a good reminder to never get to that point again. Also keep a shirt or two for the same reason. I have always bought my shirts one size larger because my upper arms were really big and almost everything I bought the sleeves were too tight.
Good luck with your pre op diet, you are lucky it is only 3 days. I was 2 weeks.
I hope you have a safe surgery and very speedy recovery. Good luck on Monday!
P.S. Try reading a good book this weekend, taking a nice hot bath and listening to music. It makes time go by and really relaxes you as you head into Monday.

Thanks for that post USGAnn2014!! Great information and also some of the same things I've heard and currently experiencing. I reached goal 10 mo post op (March 2015) and then lost another 7 since then even though I was supposed to be in maintenance mode. Mentally, I do not think I can be in the maintenance mode. Like others, I've been in the weight loss mode for 20 years and I just don't know any other way to live. I miss my scale rewards, I miss the comments people would make during my weight loss, but both are gone and I haven't figured out a way to live without them. I still get on that darn scale about every other day despite knowing I shouldn't. I still drink a shake every morning and eat like I did during the weight loss phase. I can hold more food though so my turkey burgers and chicken breast portions have just increased. My trainer has me doing less cardio and more weight training to reduce my fat percentage. Its working, but slowly. She is attempting to help me change my goals to body fat percentage instead of BMI and scale rewards, but I'm just not quite there yet. Little by little I'm learning to live the "skinny person's" life but its harder than I thought!! I'm happy being thin, don't get me wrong, I just didn't expect the mental part to be so hard! And why is it that there are days I look in the mirror and think, ick...there is still fat person looking back at me???!!!! Not something I expected. Maybe some day I will learn to live/accept I'm on maintenance. I am so afraid to gain it back that I'm just not there yet.
Congrats to everyone at goal or close to it!

you won't find better quality than Quest.
Read the ingredients. Many bars are just junk food disguised as "healthy"

I have been eating the Quest bars to help me with snacking and getting Protein in for Breakfast. I also have been eating Power Crunch Protein Bars. The only thing they are 200 calories , but the carbs are so low and the protein is 14. They really help when I am craving something sweet. The different Greek yogurt flavors that are 80-100 calories. They have 12-14 grams of protein. Sometimes, I freeze them and they taste just like frozen yogurt.

    Congrats amylynns! How was Hawaii?
Yes I am still stuck. I'm sitting at the surgeons office now waiting to schedule an upper gi, because I've been having pain in my back when swallowing. Iron is low still too. Ugh. The nurse said I'm probably just at a plateau with the weight loss and if I increase my exercise it might pick up.
I'm back in the dating game, scary! I met someone online not long ago, and I met him last week. It was sooooo nerve-wracking! The last time I did that, I was almost 100 lbs heavier...so naturally I had those same insecure feelings. But it turned out well, I think anyways.
Hope you're all doing well! Missed you all!
