smokenhaze got a reaction from Tinka504 in How to get Insurance to cover Plastic Surgery
First of all, congratulations on the weight loss!!! When I first met the bariatric doctor she advised and took note on all problems with my skin, chaffing, burning, infections....if anything problematic happened after the surgery it would be documented so I can get a higher chance of being cover for plastic surgery.
I would suggest going to the medical doctor and see if she/he could write a letter of recommendation to submit to the insurance to get it covered. Be sure to state to the doctor all the problems you are having with your skin, it could possibly lead to infection, which is why it would be medically necessary.

I am scheduled for MAY 11th and I am really excited, I've waiting a whole year, new year, new insurance that covers fully. I have been on the liquid diet since april 9th, surgeon wanted my liver nice and small before surgery. Considering I'm one of the heavier of the heavy people, it makes sense.

smokenhaze got a reaction from gmanbat in How will the Sleeve affect my Singing?
I got my music degree in Vocal Performance, unfortunately that time was really hard for me as gaining weight affected my singing in a bad way. Couldn't stand as long, sweating on stage, less control over my voice. Although I haven't had the surgery yet, being a performer most of my life I found at that at my fittest I could sing the best. A lot of it has to do with your diaphragm. Learning to sing using that controls the balloons ( lungs) expand and contract. My recommendation since I have had my tonsils, adnodes, removed from me. Don't start to sing right away. Once you get out of surgery work on your breathing excersizes. The better breathing the more control you will have over your voice. If your throat hurts don't sing, and talk lightly and quiet...don't strain. As your throat starts feeling better you can sing more and more.
But utimately I think sleeve, and losing weight period is good for singing.

Everything I hide I eventually eat. Besides, I just lost 77 pounds in 6 months so who was I fooling? I tell everyone. What I don't do is defend it. I don't have to. This was the best decision I ever made and I won't let anyone make me ashamed of it.

Whether your skin sags [or fails to tighten up] post-weight loss has mostly to do with age, how much weight you lose, how rapidly you lost it, genetics, and whether you do any strength training exercise. About all you can do is try and lose gradually, exercise regularly, and incorporate muscle building into your routine. If you end up having a little excess skin, I know it seems scary but it's not the end of the world. It does get better over time on it's own, and for whatever is left, that's what plastic surgery is for .

I am on day two of all liquids and I am losing it! I have no energy and I just want to start crying and then sleep for two days! This is really inconvienant since I am at work. Ugh is there anything I can do? I am drinking fluids in addition to my Protein Shakes and Fiber supplements, I just don't know what to do I really feel terrible and like a total baby.

What Gman said. Remember: you don't control your breathing from your lungs, you control it from your diaphragm. Singing should come from deep in your belly. Losing weight gives more room for that.
From personal experience I was singing and playing guitar just last night (exactly one week post-op).
    No worries.

The stomach is not what you sing with, singing is air passing through vocal chords. That air comes from the lungs. Singing with abdomen muscles is no doubt what you are referring to. After your operation heals your abdomen muscles will be as good as ever. The smaller stomach will have no bearing upon it.
However, your wind will improve. Your control of air will increase because with the excess fat gone you will breath easier and not be fighting just to live. I used to breath hard even when I wasn't doing anything. That all went away.
Your energy will improve, your general mood will improve, you will sing like a happy bird at dawn!

smokenhaze got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in Pre-Op and no family support
It's not okay to have family support. Well they are the closest one to you, but that doesn't mean that you don't have any support. Thats what this website is for. My family isn't the most supportive. Support groups with the hostipal your using to get your surgery at. I found out, I value support more from people like me. Maybe in the end they will support you, but don't count on it. Sometimes the lack of support comes from the lack of understanding. I try to educate my mother as much as I can so she can at least get a look into my world. But my father could care less..."why can't you just excerise". I don't bother to comment to those questions. Its not worth it to get worked up over that. You chose your route, can't change the past, but only move forward. Develop coping skills to deal with them and rememeber support can come from anyone. You can do it!
