  1. Hello! Leaving for the hospital in about 6 hours. I'm mostly excited, but a little anxious too. I'm pretty sure that most surgeons wanted the long holiday weekend off too! LOL
  2. Ok, y'all, my turn to post. I can't believe my surgery will be here in about 10 hours. I will spend tonight binge watching Law and Order SVU, packing my bag, taking my shower, and using my CHG wipes. I naturally overthink and panic about everything, but I'm trying to stay positive and just get through the next few hours by reminding myself why I started this journey years ago. Please send positive vibes my way and I'll post another update as soon as I'm feeling up to it. Thank you all for coming along on this crazy ride with me!
  3. Thanks, Libby63! I will be sure to post my update in the July Siblings thread.
  4. I had 3 c- sections 18, 20, and 25 years ago. I also had a tubal ligation back then too. Are these the types of abdominal surgeries that you're referring to? My bypass is scheduled for tomorrow July 3. Should I be concerned about him not being able to do my bypass?
  5. I absolutely love your attitude! I'm having my bypass tomorrow, so I need to catch your mindset quick!
  6. AZhiker- I'm grateful for your advice. It means a lot to go into tomorrow's surgery with your kind words. Thank you!
  7. This is exactly what I wanted to know! I'm hoping to be well enough to work up to 10k steps by the beginning of next week. Thank you!
  8. I'm having my gastric bypass on Wednesday July 3. I have been working really hard to lose almost 40 lbs in the past 6 months, so I don't want to lose my exercise momentum. Currently, I bike and walk about 5 miles a day. I know biking is out of the question for a few weeks, but walking will be my main source of exercise. How much were you able to walk in the days and weeks after surgery? Thanks!
  9. Good luck to you! I know that I'm super lucky that I only have a 2 day clear liquid diet prep before my bypass surgery on Wednesday. So far today I've had beef broth, Gatorade Zero, and sf jello. Get some rest tonight!
  10. You are awesome! I'm 2 days out from surgery and I'm not freaking out as bad as I thought I would be LOL
  11. I'm 2 days away from my RNY surgery and these responses have been extremely inspiring to read! Thank you all!!!
  12. Good luck! Im right behind you with my gastric bypass on Wednesday July 3. We got this!
  13. I'm in the Chicagoland area and I'm wondering if there are any current WLS Meet Ups. If there isn't already an established group, would any of you be interested in getting together occasionally to discuss our journey? Whether your pre-op, post-op, or a veteran, we all have something we can share to get us through the good and not-so-good times. Chicagoland includes any of us within a few hour drive. We could alternate between city, suburbs, Northwest Indiana- we could even venture out to border cities in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Iowa! Maybe we can get something started before summer is over [emoji4]
  14. I will be having gastric bypass on July 3. I started my program in Feb 2019, but have battled weight issues my whole life. I am excited and anxious about my upcoming date. I cannot imagine weighing less than I do now. At 42 years old, I've been morbidly obese my entire adult life and obese my entire life. So many thoughts run through my head about this surgery, but I tell myself to take it one baby step at a time. My program only requires 2 days liquid diet, so I don't even start that til July 1. Would love to keep in contact with you and our other July siblings [emoji16] Good luck to all of us!
  15. My pre-op class and labs were June 18. Just 11 more days til my rny on July 3! It's hard to focus on anything else aside from our big day! Good luck to all of us July Siblings!
  16. Hope you get some rest tonight! Good luck tomorrow!!!
  17. I didn't want to go into this with any negativity before or after surgery. This is my very personal medical history and a very personal choice. I don't care for anybody's opinions or judgments. I will be eating less food, getting more exercise, and watching my protein, fat, sugar, and carbs... and that is the version of the truth that they will alllll be hearing ?
  18. I've only told my wife and adult kids too. I chose not to tell any friends, coworkers, or my students. Im sure they'll be full of questions when we return to school in the fall, but I'm just not comfortable telling people my story. Good luck to us both!
  19. Im super excited for you- please post an update as soon as you're up to it. My date is July 3, just about 2 weeks away, and I'm slowly starting to feel the anxiety/ excitement too. I'll be spending 2 nights in the hospital, so I plan on taking my phone charger. Music always calms me so I'll also be bringing along my earbuds in my backpack. Other than that, our backpacks are pretty similar. Good luck to you!
  20. BCBS has a phone app that I was able to check my pre authorization, I was super excited when it went from pending to approved. I'm sure they'll call you soon. I don't know what the pilot program is. I teach high school English in IL. What/ where do you teach?
  21. I will be sure to give details after my class next week. Are you getting sleeve or rny?
  22. I have BCBS of IL and I received a call just before the end of the business day yesterday. I was so excited and relieved that I cried on the phone with the rep! LOL I'm a hs teacher, so I return to work in September. I'm glad to have plenty of time to recover.
  23. It took 9 days for my insurance to approve my July 3 gastric bypass. Good luck to you!
