I am ‘in process’ without a surgery date yet. I am a candidate for RNY because of GERD, sugar addiction, comorbidites but I have had three previous abdominal surgeries and my surgeon said adhesions could require me to have a sleeve instead. Did any of you have successful RNY despite having adhesions?

My doctor was concerned about adhesions too because of prior abdominal surgery, but my RNY was successful. Good luck to you!

I had 3 c- sections 18, 20, and 25 years ago. I also had a tubal ligation back then too. Are these the types of abdominal surgeries that you're referring to?
My bypass is scheduled for tomorrow July 3. Should I be concerned about him not being able to do my bypass?

Thanks, Briswife15. Alex76, I am sure you will be fine or he would have mentioned it! My surgeon was most concerned about my old gallbladder surgery. The others were a 2 stage hysterectomy but he was not as concerned with them. Relax, and get a good nights sleep. Please let me know how it goes. You’ll be in my thoughts tomorrow. Best wishes!

My surgeon was not concerned that I had had my gallbladder and appendix removed two years prior. My RNY surgery went very smoothly, no problems.

I also had some questions for my surgeon about this prior to my RNY having had a hysterectomy before. The way it was explained to me was that they were most concerned with prior abdominal surgeries that involved implanted mesh to repair them, such as a large hernia repair. I bet you will do just fine. :)

Good luck tomorrow!

I had an adhesion from an OLD c section and an old hysterectomy. I got my bypass and the next day ended up in emergency surgery from a bowel blockage due to said adhesions! I had 3 blood transfusions and was in ICU for an entire week. With ANY abdominal surgery there is always a risk if adhesions. The blockage was not due to my bypass unfortunately it happened a day later.

Mrs Hayes, that must have been terrifying. Glad you are ok now.

Hi Libby. I’ve had two sections and adhesions were my biggest fear because I had them with my second section and pain was terrible!!
However this pain was not even close. He did tell me I had quite a bit of scar tissue so he had to make an additional incision. But other than that I’m doing great. I went RNY. When you sign your consents they will put both in case he can’t do one, if that makes sense. All in all, I’m so excited at how well this went for me! Good luck to you

Good morning, Libby63: I'm happy to report that you were right! My bypass was a success. I woke up yesterday and was in minimal pain that was managed well by the nurses. I haven't had anything to eat in about 34 hours and I don't feel any hunger. This morning I will start my clear liquid diet Phase 1. Wish me luck!
Thanks again for your supportive words.

Good morning, Fluffy! You were right, I did just fine [emoji4] I am officially 1 day post-op from gastric bypass. It's still hard for me to believe that I went through with it! I'm excited to begin my road to recovery and renewal! Thank you for your encouragement.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
