    No Interest in Food?

I’m a little over one month post op, and I don’t have any interest in food. However, I think my disinterest is in large part to the amount of puking I’ve been doing. I haven’t been able to move from purées yet. I can’t stomach another protein shake. I make one each day, and get about an ounce in before I can’t drink anymore. It’s hard to believe my pouch could be so small, but it just is. I get full, very very fast. Within 1-3 bites and I’m done. I’m practicing everything I’ve been told. Putting the fork down, chewing everything until you can’t chew anymore, trying to eat smaller frequent meals... etc. but I just can’t get it in. My NP however told me that if I’m getting in 40g of protein, she’s ok with that for now. I need to be at 600 cals/day in order to go back to work, and I’m just not there, not even close. I’m hoping that another week of purées and I’ll be ready for soft foods. Just keep doing the best you can. ❤️
  2. I’m 1 week and 4 days post op today! I am down 22lbs since surgery! Feeling great. I haven’t had any real cravings, started missing texture so I did add in Soups and had some ricotta bake to help satisfy that! Purées start on Monday but I’m a couple days ahead. Oh and the “pipes” have been working since post op day 5 for me. Pain has been gone since post op day 6. I’m waking regularly, no 10k steps, but walking nonetheless. I will get the exercise ok at post op appt on Monday!

Mmmmmm yummy fruit bars! My doctors office also said they are ok. And if we are getting technical, the “sugar free” popsicle brand has carbs so... carbs turn to sugar. I guess if you’re that concerned about of a couple grams of sugars, you’re gonna have a pretty boring rest of your life. Everything has sugars, it’s called balance! She’s not asking about a Dove double chocolate bar.

    Pureed Stage

So, here I am searching puréed stage because, like Brian, I am feeling good, and tolerating some purées now. The poor guy came on here asking for some tasty foods. He didn’t say he was on here wanting a large cheese pizza or an everything bagel smothered in cream cheese, or French toast, pancakes and the like. He simply came to a forum, that is here for people to get ideas, recipes, calms fears and rejoices in each other’s victories. I’ve noticed a lot of being on your “high horse” recently on the forum, and it really needs to stop. We all came here because we were fat and unhealthy. NO ONE is perfect. DrBrian, I am 1 week and 4 days post op. I have tried Soups mostly, and can handle all of them. In fact, I had about 4oz of French onion Soup without the cheese and very little onion, and did great. I’ve also had about 2-3oz of chili. Also, I am down 20lbs from my surgical weight today and neither of my decisions wanted me to go back to old ways of eating. I would have had the entire soup and chili plus an entire meal before.

All is well! I have been able to keep down several soups (non chunky) and protein shakes and fluids. No pain anymore. I have my 2 week post op appt on Monday. I am currently down 19 lbs since surgery. I am at a two day stall, so I told myself I will not look at the scale again until Monday and am only going to weigh myself once a week. I hear the stall is normal, but ya'll know how fun it is seeing the lbs come off and then when it suddenly stops it sucks. Non-scale victory. I put on jean shorts easily that i wasnt even able to get up over my hips at the beginning of summer! YAY

Supposedly the robot = quicker recovery and less pain. I would say my pain has been less than I expected but still painful. I was bloated... and distended.... for days. I just started passing adequate gas and had a BM on post op day 5. I re-added protein shakes now, a different type. Milk based were causing additional bloat so trying something different now! I feel ok but still needing oxy for pain. And all I want to do is sleep. I also had tomato soup last night, about 2oz. Wasn’t too bad!

I talked to doctor, they told me to stop my protein shakes until swelling is down and restart them Sunday. Today it seems to be better.

Post op day 3. Last night was not good. Constant full feeling is keeping me from drinking anything which I believe made me spike a fever. Call into doctors office to see what I can do. I took some miralax and that did help me go, but it’s all loose and I never feel less full. It’s super painful how tight my stomach is from the distention
  13. Mine was 2 hours. He used the Robot!

    Adhesions and RnY?

Hi Libby. I’ve had two sections and adhesions were my biggest fear because I had them with my second section and pain was terrible!! However this pain was not even close. He did tell me I had quite a bit of scar tissue so he had to make an additional incision. But other than that I’m doing great. I went RNY. When you sign your consents they will put both in case he can’t do one, if that makes sense. All in all, I’m so excited at how well this went for me! Good luck to you

We are surgery twins. Are you home yet?Your experience sounds just like mine. I was very distended yesterday but I begged to go home. So i went home on post op day 1! And I slept a glorious 5 hours which was amazing since post op day 0 I didn’t sleep at all. I had an allergic reaction to morphine PCA so they switched me to fentanyl which eased the pain better but only lasted such a short time due to its short half life. They then started me on oxys which I am on now. I’m crossing my fingers I won’t need those after today. Still a little painful going from laying to sitting to standing and vice versa but overall I am so surprised with how well I’m getting around. My six incisions are open to air. He glued them. They look good: just a little drainage on them but they said as long as it’s nonpurulent serosanguinous it’s fine. Keep me in the loop on how you’re feeling!!

    July 2019

I too finally am able to pass gas and I had a BM. I’ve never been so happy in my life. BM still loose, but I would assume it’s going to be that way for awhile. It was small too. As far as water and protein goes, once your belly isn’t distended anymore and you move some of it around, I’m sure protein and water will come easy.  As far as your temp, I would wait it out. It’s not technically a fever yet as we can fluctuate up and down from 98.6. If you get low grade (100.1) and above which chills and such, I would call the doctor.

Hi guys!! Like Alex, recovery of RNY was very manageable. I still haven’t passed any gas, so belly is still pretty distended. But pain is under control and I was able to tolerate Bari 3 diet today, sooooo I just left the hospital!! Yay!

They used a robot which I guess has better outcomes for pain and people go home quicker usually
