Wait, you saw her three times and sat there and didn't say anything waiting for her to say something? How awkward. Maybe she is sitting there wondering why in the heck you are not saying something. Your friends for goodness sake. I know it is obvious, but you are the one with the news, you should be bringing it up and starting the conversation.

Driving to work instead of walking is the easy way out.
Using the washing machine instead of pounding out your clothes in the stream is the easy way out.
Buying your food at the store instead of growing/killing it is the easy way out.
I could go on for days...
Bottom line? I did what's best for me and my family and that's all that matters. I really don't give a flying fart what someone else thinks of my decision.

Prime rib (fat trimmed), mashed potatoes and a bit of broccoli (some veggies are still hard to eat depending on the day). I'm nearly three months out

purplefaery reacted to It's all new in The sleeve has made me a snacker.
I read a 2012 Bariatric Times article that gave me some insight on this. The article said that "an increasing number of studies have shown that gastric emptying after LSG (laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy) is accelerated by as much as two-fold." I have to eat similarly frequently, and it's not acid - I take 30mg Prevacid twice daily. I would probably try an acid blocker in your situation since it is such a common sleeve issue, but you are not alone! I think for those who don't experience hunger, the rapid gastric emptying isn't noticeable - but for someone like me who never lost my hunger, it's a problem!

I haven't done this before so I thought I would post a before shot and a shot from 7 months out. 65 lbs and feeling great! I'm a slow loser and for 2 months did not lose a pound. I was one who thought I could eat anything I wanted and still lose. That is NOT the case. You can prevent yourself from losing. I went to Hawaii and drank wine like it was going out of style and ate everything sweet that came my way during Christmas and low and behold....didn't lose a pound for 2 months. The minute I started eating my Protein and drinking my Water, I started losing again. This takes work and dedication to a lifestyle change just as much as anything else. It is NOT the easy way out! Although I still can only eat VERY small portions, if I choose the wrong foods those small amounts of calories add up quickly. Honestly though, I figured at 7 months out I would be able to eat a lot more than I can but thank goodness my tummy seems as small as ever
    Have a great day everyone!

purplefaery reacted to SparkleCat in Any smokers
I quit smoking cigarettes in December and have no plans on going back to it! I live in Colorado and recreational is legal here. I have never really enjoyed getting high, but I actually thought about it when I quit smoking just to have that sensation of inhaling again...I decided against it. Mainly, I want my lungs to be healthy and to not pick up another addiction when I will be trying to beat to others (nicotine and food)
If you are in Colorado or Washington, I would suggest edibles...no lung damage, no smoke entering the system. Or perhaps a vaporizer which may be less toxic to your lungs
But I would also suggest really looking at your smoking and making certain you aren't switching one problem for another. I know I will be doing that with my drinking...When I learned that I wouldn't be able to drink after surgery I got a little panicked...which made me realize that I may need to look at why and how much I drink. I am not an alcoholic, but I do think I can use alcohol much like I use food...to numb and ignore yucky feelings. Surgery, for me, is a tool to not only lose weight and get my health back, but it is also an opportunity to figure some stuff out...really face how and why I got here in the first place, which means not replacing food with nicotine or booze or weed.
    Best of luck!

So I totally hate taking my monthly progress pics. I don't know why. You would think I would look forward to it. I think I just worry that I won't see any progress and sabotage myself. Anyway..... I took some tonight. I've been wearing the same clothes each time, but I had to wear a different shirt this time because the original one hung off me.
SO..... 77.4 pounds later, 55 more to go, here I am at 4 months post op.

My sister bought me one of these cookbooks for Christmas, and I finally got around to sitting down and looking through it. The author really seems focused on low-calorie, high-Protein options. Certainly, not all of her recipes are WLS-friendly, but I was surprised at the number that were. We had Stuffed Chick Cordon Bleu tonight. I had half a serving for 95 calories with 17g of protein! My boyfriend has actually already bought me 2 more of her books! I just thought I'd share in case someone else was looking for something new to try!

purplefaery got a reaction from Teachamy in 4 weeks out & I've hit the dreaded stalls!
Stalls are evil! My last one started the day after Christmas and just ended late last week. I complained about it... a lot. They are just so so frustrating!
But, all the while, I would work to remind myself that our bodies are designed to take on and hold onto weight just planning go a famine. Then, when the famine arrives, to expend that energy slowly just in case we need it later. What I just did to my body with the surgery easily put it into 'famine mode.' While I might be frustrated during a stall, I also try to remember that my body is just trying to save my life.
Soon enough, it will realize that I really am still eating and it can let go of a little more weight. Then, it will probably freak out again because we're still losing the famine safety net that its been building all these years. If you read accounts of the longer term vets, many say that the weight loss isn't in a straight line, but rather steps down as their body adjusts.
Basically, I understand your frustration and will probably be complaining myself again here too. But don't let it make you feel defeated! This is what your body was made to do! You'll get through it!

It finally happened! After 9 days stuck at 216, and FIVE WEEKS stuck at 206, I’m at 199 and down to a size 14! Woohoo!
The only bad thing is, when I tell co-workers, family or friends about the new milestones and that have only 50-ish pounds to go to goal of 150, they gasp in disbelief that I could possible lose that much more and not look sick and they don’t believe that I weight 199 still. Guess it’s because of my height (5’7”) and have always carried my weight (and muscle) well…but have weighed less than 150 (a sickly 113 way back when, but a healthy and sexy 140 as well) so I know it’s doable…but who knows? Maybe will be happy at 160 or 170 but 150 puts me squarely in the health weight department for my height and build.
Keep up the good (but hard!) work everyone!
    Happy Moan-day!
