In my opinion most people feel one of two ways that they want to enjoy their last supper (favorite foods, sweets, etc. all the things they believe they will have to live without) and then the other half decide to try to challenge themselves as lose weight. I would have to say I somewhat suffer from both as I made it my own personal goal to lose weight (I'm down 19 pounds and surgery is on Monday) but at the same time I've also indulged in my favorite foods but with limitations. I think after looking at the scale going down for the past 2 months and seeing that my clothes are fitting better it helps to keep me focused. Someone suggested writing down why you want the surgery. I believe that will be a tremendous help to you. I also believe in keeping your eyes on the prize. Commit to making some positive changes as you are working towards a change of life not a diet. The habits we form after surgery will be the habits that we will live by for the rest of our lives. Granted many of us will want something that we truly enjoy (when it comes to food) but programming ourselves to know our limits will be what will keep us on track and help to make us successful in our weightloss goals. Focus on that 20 pounds that you need to lose and put a plan of action in place. We can do this. Try chewing longer whatever you're eating longer to savor the flavor that tends to help me eat less. After all we'll have to chew longer once we have surgery so just get a headstart then it won't be so hard after surgery. Good Luck! You can do this!

I went through that a few weeks ago. it was fun! My last meal was at Carabbas. That was definately more fun than the crappy shakes I am on now. vanilla. It tastes like chalk. I am sticking to it. Keep drinking Water and that helps.

I have been experiencing the same thing for the past couple of weeks, today is my day to get back on track and I have to do it, but I can totally relate to you and just how difficult it is. Hang in there, we can all do it!

Welcome! I totally experience the last supper syndrome. I gained 8lbs in a month and was mortified during my appt. I said the same thing. "I won't be able to eat like this again. This won't harm my progress." It actually does. It's very common to think like this. You will be able to eat things again in the future but smaller and not as often. After that appt for me it got real. I didn't want to cancel my surgery so I needed to make a change and stay focused. You can do this. I wrote a list of all the reasons I wanted this surgery and every time I had that urge to eat something I knew I shouldn't, I brought the list out and looked at it, had a glass of Water and moved on. I'm almost 5 months post op and its been the best decision. Wishing you the best of luck.

Is the liquid hot, warm or cold? During my 1st month, I could not handle ice cold beverages but it got better. It would hurt going down. My stomach would hurt if I tried to put too much liquid in it those first few weeks.
But, just to be on the safe side, call the doctor and let him know whats happening.

OK - major reality check. If you follow the protocol as closely to the letter as you possibly can, you will lose weight. Period. Science and the laws of the universe cannot be denied. An awful lot of folks who have an awful lot of education have done and continue to do an awful lot of research and an awful lot of testing and have proven the success of RnY beyond any shadow of a doubt. RnY has been around for more than 30 years. There is absolutely no doubt that it is the single most effective treatment known to medical science for obesity, type2 diabetes, and more than 30 comorbidities associated with obesity. No doubt.
Stop wasting your energy on Reese's testing. Forget about testing dumping. Some very successful RnY patients n e v e r experience dumping. There is a very long list of benefits from RnY and not a single one of them is attributed to dumping. There is absolutely no scientific evidence that folks who experience dumping are any more or less successful than those who don't. Dumping has nothing to do with success.
Your goal is physical change but your challenge is mental discipline. Stay positive. Stay patient. And again, stay focused on following the protocol as closely to the letter as you possibly can. Success starts with realistic expectations. Focus all of your energy on these things. Irrational fear and "self testing" is not realistic, it's not sustainable and it's most certainly not healthy. The only thing standing between you and success is you.
Now, right this moment, realize and accept the fact that your body is going to find its own way in its own time. There are going to be times when you lose weight quickly. Times when you lose slowly. And YES, there will be times when you don't lose at all (stalls). You KNOW it's coming. You KNOW it's perfectly normal. You KNOW that you cannot change the reality. Trying to do so is a waste of time. Panicking when what you KNOW is coming eventually comes, is irrational and pointless.
Do not wait too long to seek professional help with your fears. You've come a very long way already. The finish line is in sight. There's no shame in seeking help from highly skilled, highly educated professionals who help folks conquer similar challenges every single day. Take responsibility for your own success. In the words of Winston Churchill, "It is of no use saying we are doing the best we can. Success means doing what is necessary".
You're gonna love the new you!!

Hahaha ... I love people's happy dance when they discover the Laughing Cow wedges. Aren't they delish? I have been eating LC wedges pre-op and I'm sooo glad we can have them post-op. Doesn't bother my pouch either. I now buy them in family size. Lasts forever in the fridge.

Why don't you suggest that you meet for a cup of coffee instead? A lot of online dates do that because it's an easy exit if it doesn't work out. If it does workout then you can go elsewhere from there.

That's up to you. I would not tell them, if it were me. It's none of their business especially this early in the relationship. I eat out most every night. I order carefully and only eat about 1/2 of what I order. You can do this.

sonya139 reacted to SoccerMomma73 in What does 'clinical review required' mean?
Happens all the time. Just means your file is either going to a nurse or physician for review to see if you qualify. Bariatric surgery rarely gets a simple yes or no answer since so many variables are involved. No worries, it will be fine!

I was also sleeved December 13, 2012 and reached my goal weight before I was revised to the RNY on August 16th for GERD/reflux reasons. My surgery weight was 218.2 and my goal weight was 145 but I was 140 when I had my RNY surgery in August. Since then I am 133. The sleeve was great for me weight-wise, but I did have several complications so as long as you go into it knowing that there are risks no matter which route you choose, and research, research, research, and trust your surgeon completely, you will do great. Any time I can answer any other questions for you, let me know. I wish you well!

You'll be just fine. I was sleeved on 8/12, but I was apart of the 1% to have complications (had to revise to RNY). All of those from Vertical Sleeve Talk who were sleeved with me are doing very well.
    Good luck to you!
