enjoyinglife reacted to salubrino in Sweet eaters - what was your story with gastric bypass?
I know there aren´t any easy fixes and that GB is "just a tool" but I must admit I´ve was a bit disappointed to realize that not all GB-patients got the dumping syndrome (I know that @goodnuf told me to be careful what I wish for). I sort of had hoped for that easy fix.....
Sugar is hard to break with - it is everywhere and it tastes so good.
I actually managed though to break my Coke-habit two years ago (Coca Cola, not cocaine...) and noticed that my taste for sugar changed when I got less of it in my system. So I´ll do my best to wean off sugar when in the liquid- and soft food phase.
And to tell myself that I´ve got the dumping syndrome after the surgery and not eat to test if it´s true or not like you wrote Djmohr.

    Hi Tami,
Congrats on your success!! Do you have support groups where you are? Nothing beats human interaction in my book. When I start feeling like I am going off track, I tell myself to live in the "now" and get back to basics. For me that means two things: Exercising for 30 minutes a day and keeping my portion sizes under control. (Keep using my food scale)
I tried kayaking this summer and I love it. So, maybe try a new activity?

I started off eating the cans of shredded beef Jerky. It is made by Jacks Links. My NUT had no problem with me doing that. I didn't start eating the jerky until I was cleared for stage three foods.

I have found that sometimes I mistake my hunger for thirst. On days that I drink my 80 to 100 oz of Water, I do not eat as much or feel as hungry.
    My snack idea: water...

Guess how I spent my Memorial day? Cooking and restocking my freezer with individual sized containers of some of my favorites.
One of the secrets to my success - knowing I have something delicious to heat up for dinner keeps me from eating too much take-out or impulsively going through a drive-through! Those days are looooong gone! ????

enjoyinglife got a reaction from tberger74 in What is your WLS Motivating Mantra?
When I am in the gym working out I think to myself: "Building twisted steel and sex appeal!"
Other mantras include: "Attitude is everything" "This is my individual journey and I am finding my way" "I am growing and changing." "I make appropriate food choices based on my goals." "I am finding my own recovery."
    Great topic!!!

I've been wondering about some of these questions as well. Newly divorced and looking to step out there into the dating world. I've tried Christian Mingle too but it seems hard to get anyone to respond to smiles or winks or whatever. It just seems to be so "looks" oriented -- you have those couple of pictures that people look at before they ever get to the profile. I sit there trying to figure out if it's the weight or my short hair or 20 other factors that keep people from responding.
And then I try to take a step back and say to myself "Self, you are a caring, loving, deserving person and you deserve someone who looks beyond the exterior and gets to know the real you."
It takes a lot of positive self-talk and reframing... maybe I'll get it down someday...

Nope!!! I have lost weight in the past but would always gain it back and then some. I am very happy I had it done. I fully admit though that I haven't spend a lot of time pondering if it was the right decision. Relentless forward motion!!!

enjoyinglife reacted to bigloser2014 in Hiding the scale!
So, after weeks of slow wt. loss followed by a stall when I started weight training, I asked my daughter to hide my scale and not return it even if I beg for it! I tested her this weekend and she did not give in! She will give it back in at least 2 weeks but I think I might not take it back. I would love to see a big loss for once even if it takes a few weeks of not checking! Can I find it if I try to look for it? Sure. It's my house and I know every inch of it but who will I be hurting?
Clothes are fitting loser. I feel so much energy, more than I have felt in years! Why worry about the number on the scale?
    This too "stall" pass! lol.

    b***h.

It's the INTERNET people!! We are NOT all friends, we are NOT all family. We are NOT all going to agree on everything every time. It's a bunch of strangers behind a computer monitor, free to say what they want without repercussion. It's highly unlikely that everything that is said on an internet forum would be said to someone face to face.
    IT'S OK!!!

You don't like me? I'm OK with that. You hate my opinion? I'm OK with that. You think I'm a b***h? AWESOME!! I really don't care.

I have real life friends and family, as I am sure you do. If I make a few friends here, fabulous. If I make a few NOT friends here (I don't do internet enemies, that's silly), fantastic!
Forums are a place for discussion. An exchange of ideas. A place to share your opinion and hear the opinions of others. We learn and grow from opinions that don't match ours. It doesn't mean we have to change our opinion or that our opinion is BAD or WRONG, it's just different.
You hate this place and want to leave? GO!! Don't let the doorknob hit you.
You love this place and want to stay and argue? PERFECT. Glad to have you.

You like to debate? Love it.

You enjoy playing devil's advocate? Great!

You want to call names? You're the problem.

You want to post inflammatory crap and then erase it? You're the problem.
You want to pass judgement on others for living their lives differently than you? YOU'RE THE PROBLEM.
We have an awesome feature on this forum where you block people you don't like. You will never see their posts again. Use it. If you don't like something you've just read, MOVE ON. You replied to a thread and don't want to read any more about the topic? UNFOLLOW. Someone's advice mortally offends you, say so respectfully and move on. You aren't interested in what you've read or you think someone has moved off topic? Don't read further. It's no big deal. You don't like reading the same question over and over? Don't answer. The world WILL NOT stop because you didn't put your two cents in, I promise you.

Take what helps you, leave the rest. No big $*^%$(&%^ deal. Seriously. You can add to the discussion or you can BECOME the discussion. It's really up to you.

So excited today! Had surgery on 10/23 at 240. I was 207 at Thanksgiving and stayed there until Christmas. I was so frustrated and couldn't believe I had my stomach removed and STILL wasn't losing. In the meantime, I dropped about 1.5 sizes during that month and as I read about what it really means to lose and regain Water weight, I felt a bit better.
And now for the amazing part-- after the month long stall, I am now at 195 today! I am down 12 lbs in less than 2 weeks following that long stall! So hang in there and follow your program and you will break through it!
