The smallest clothes I own are now too big for me. I went from having only two complete outfits in 2X that fit (barely) back in May, to 1X, to XL, to L (pant sizes going down from 22, 20, 18, 16, 14) - all of which I already owned due to an Optifast weight loss back in '09. I'm edging into unfamiliar territory - MEDIUMS!! And sz12's! From here on in it is all unfamiliar territory.
Now, whenever I buy a sz12, I also pick up a sz10. I'm even eyeing sz8's and smalls on clearance racks - is it possible I could get THAT small? :-)

I went on a date with an adorable and charming man who told me I'm beautiful, not cute, not nice smile, not great personality, BEAUTIFUL....other than my son, I believe that's the first time I've ever heard that.

The diabetes is doing much better. No meds since I left the hospital. I check it randomly and it's been around 150 or less. Thanks for asking.

are you weighing at the same place each time? I weigh every single morning in my bathroom. Naked. After I pee. Right before my shower. So: same time, place and situation.

When it comes to energy, carbs will always be king. On a normal diet, about 60% of your energy needs are met with carbs. But, when you're on a low carb diet, Protein is your body's best friend. In the absence of sufficient carbs, your body will use Protein as its primary source of energy. So, no carbs, no protein = no energy.
There is no doubt that "whole" foods are always the best source of protein (or any other nutrient). But that can be extremely difficult if not down right impossible for several months following surgery. I am not a doctor. Or a nutritionist. But if the choice comes down to protein supplements or no protein at all, I would go for the shakes/powders/bars/soups/puddings in a heartbeat. Without hesitation. And I believe the majority of doctors would agree.
Protein is not only important for energy. Every single one of the one trillion cells in your body contains protein. Protein helps to build and repair body tissues including skin, muscle and major organs. Without sufficient protein, healing can be slowed. Protein is used extensively by the body in defending against bacterial and viral infections. Rapid weight loss will always result in some loss of muscle mass. Protein will help minimize that lean muscle loss. It will also reduce hair loss. And these are just some of the benefits of protein.
Consider giving protein a very high priority in your journey. There are very good reasons why virtually all doctors recommend their patients get at least 60g of protein per day. Follow their recommendation. You'll be glad you did and your body will thank you.
Depression is quite common following RnY. You've had a major surgery. Hormones are going wild. But it does pass and before you know it, you'll be back on your game. Stay positive. Stay patient. Stay focused on following the protocol as closely to the letter as you possibly can. And last but not least, maintain a food log.
You're gonna love the new you!!

Congratulations!! And yes I know how you feel! I tried everything and bypass I believe helped save my life and my emotional state. I'm 2 years post op and down 120 lbs! I have a new lease on life! This summer was the first time I've worn a bathing suit...tankini top and skirt bottom ...in years!!! It felt amazing! I have areas I'd like to improve where I have loose skin, but in all honesty, the loose skin is not that big of a deal. I feel pretty, I feel like I'm more neat and well kept even in pjs lol, and my husband makes me feel like I'm the most beautiful woman in the world. And he also did that at my highest weight. He's always made me feel like a princess and been my encouragement. But he also sees this new lease on life that I have, as well as my kids, and they support me and root me on! It's amazing! So I say to you congratulations and you are beautiful inside and out! And I'm so excited for you and your weight loss and your accomplishment!! Keep up the great work!!! Loved reading your thread!! Thanks for letting me stop by!!! Best of luck to you!!!

Wearing my bathing suit, looking in the mirror in the gym locker room, I realized today just how much my body has changed. Seventy pounds gone.
I absolutely never used to have any hope of losing weight. I was so resigned to living this way the rest of my life that I stopped trying. When I'd get upset, I'd just feed myself until I didn't care anymore.
But today, watching myself shrink befote my eyes, I have hope for the first time in many years that I will be successful. And it is just so exciting to see where life will take me from here.
I just had to share this. It sounds strange, but I feel like I'm healing, finally. I know you'll know what I mean.

This is a very personal decision and it is your right to keep it personal. You should never feel bad or guilty for doing what is best for you. My surgery is in 2 days and there are a lot of people who I haven't shared it with. When you feel comfortable, share...If you never feel comfortable, don't....Good Luck!

Started a couch to 5k run this week. I'm so happy I made it through all the intervals of running! Besides that loving that I can cross my legs, fitting in two sizes smaller and getting compliments like crazy. Life is good right now!

Lean cuisines have a ton of sodium. Eat clean Protein (grilled chicken, fish). Stay away from the box... I love them too but salt is too high.

I would like to add my two cents.
At the end of the day the number that comes up on the scale is just that a number. Try to find other ways if measuring your success. I measured mine by how much of my feet I could see in the shower. When I started I could not see my feet. Today I see my ankles. Also find other goals. Write down a list of them and when you reach one cross it off and think of a new one. All dreams can come true, but you have to be patient and remember your body has a different schedule then your brain.
