tzbandtobypass got a reaction from vplatt77 in Oikos Greek Yogurt
I made the BEST Greek yogurt dessert dish that is packed with protein:
    12 Strawberries, chopped
2 single serve cups frozen Dole Blueberries
    1 container Blackberries
1 tub sugar free cool whip
1 package sugar free Cheesecake pudding mix
2 cups Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt
1 scoop vanilla Protein Powder (I use nectar brand)
Mix the yogurt and pudding mix with a mixer until well combined. Add Protein powder and mix again. Blend in the cool whip. Carefully stir in the fruit. That's it!
I can eat 4 oz of this as a meal so the macronutrients are for a 4 oz serving: 111 calories, 2.5 grams fat, 15.5 carbs (4.6 grams sugar), 6.7 grams protein.
Next time I make it I am going to try doubling the protein powder. It would make the protein go up to 13.4. Then I could have it more as a "meal" and less as a "treat". It really tastes fantastic and has helped kick my craving for something sweet!

Finally hit 70 pounds down this morning! I am about 6 pounds behind "schedule" but I am okay with that. I had a stall for like 3 weeks that made me nuts, but the scale seems to be moving along again. It is hard to believe that I have just under 20 pounds to lose to make it back to Onederland!

I think we need to start saying in the pre op threads to remember that WLS doesn't make your body perfect. You are still going to dislike certain parts of your body. In fact I bet if you ask a size 2 woman what she dislikes about her body she can still come up with ten answers. Whenever I start to feel those negative body thoughts creep into my head I force myself to remember the woman who had the confidence to not only appear in public in a bathing suit before WLS but who had the courage to say enough is enough and get the surgery done. stretch marks are evidence of earning my tiger stripes and they are not bat wings, they are angel wings. Lord knows with being overweight and having surgery I ve been through the jungle and through hell and made my way out.

Well I'm having my band out on June 17. It been a miserable struggle the last 4 yrs. On my lean liver diet then clear next week . Can't say its been easy I've been struggling .after not eating for 4 yrs. That's all I want to do .I know I can do it .just have to keep telling myself I can!!! When I decided to have the band I was afraid of having my insides cut on . Now I wish that's what I would have chosen after all the misery the band has caused me . Can't wait one more week to RNY and the rest of this crazy journey!!

It's so freaking worth it!!!! I'm not losing nearly as fast as the other folks from February but I'm slowly and consistently losing (except for the darn stalls). And I'm not starving, and I don't feel deprived, and I feel good!!!! I never ever ever felt this good with that darn band!!! So very worth it!!!!!

tzbandtobypass got a reaction from Isabel01 in Where has my hair gone!
I've had terrible Hair loss. Not so much that you can see my scalp, but I am getting about 5 times as much as I used to every day. I am 15 weeks out and this is the timeframe everyone warned me about with the hair loss. It will grow back. I am hoping that everyone is going to notice my weight loss and not my hair loss

This is a heart breaking story and one cannot help but be moved by what this woman has gone through. But I cannot in good conscious avoid asking the question - how many people whose lives could be dramatically improved and in many cases lengthened might be frightened into not having this procedure because of articles like this one? How many might continue to suffer needlessly from this disease we call obesity that has reached epidemic proportions? How many might die prematurely because of the fear instilled by articles like this one? How many?
One of the comments posted below this very blog post by "SueW" says:
"My friend is having thoughts on going through a bariatric bypass surgery. She's 380 lbs at the age of 20 and very bothered with her weight. She tried every possible way to lose weight but it didn't work for her. With this article, she can decide better to go through a surgery or not."
Her friend can better decide on surgery based on a blog post?? How frightening is that? How heartbreaking is that?
To those who are considering bariatric surgery - do the research. But do it wisely. And with an objective approach. Carefully consider the source of the information you find. What is their motivation? Do they stand to gain financially by swaying their audience one way or another? What proof do they offer for their position? Is their position, whatever it may be, supported by experts in the field? Is the information the most up-to-date available?
There are dozens if not hundreds of excellent sources of information on every conceivable aspect of bariatric surgery in general and RNY specifically. Sources such as WebMD, the National Institutes of Health, Harvard School of Public Health, mayo Clinic, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and countless universities just to name a few.
No intelligent, thoughtful person would make the decision to have elective surgery without first considering the risks and the benefits of having the surgery. And of not having the surgery. Get the facts. Discuss it with your doctor. Discuss it with several doctors. Know your options. Read the stories you see on this forum - real people, real struggles, real successes and real challenges. Learn everything you can. Take the time, make the effort and then make your decision. The life you save could be your own or someone you love.

People come here for support, not criticism. That being said, if I post something about eating something that's a poor choice pre-op let alone post RNY, I sure as hell want someone to call me out on it. I have a good support system at home, but we're all human and there will probably be a time or two I slip up. And I expect my RNY "family" to express concern, and I promise not to think you're all "judging" me.

I must admit. The people who talk about eating all those carbs don't seem as successful in weightloss as those that don't.
I don't eat bread, much Pasta, much potatoes. I confess i save my carb calories for an occasional dark chocolate bite.
But i have lost 125 lbs and holding. I Constantly remind myself to eat more Protein. I see others who have had the surgery eat tons of bread and empty calories then gripe about the struggles with weightloss.
It's all about choice. Ya know?

My experience with the band was miserable. Everything felt better the day I woke up after having it out and converting to RNY.
RNY has its own side effects, like dumping, but for me the RNY side effects seem much easier to manage. I have only dumped twice and had to lie down both times. It kind of pissed me off because both times it was with this "safe for diabetics" frozen yogurt that I did fine with the first few weeks post op. Now that I am sure of what caused it, I'll never try to eat it again.
I will take the dumping over the getting stuck and throwing up all the time and I will certainly take the dumping over the endless, very destructive, heartburn the band caused.

tzbandtobypass got a reaction from nienie in Tiny pants
My surgery was 1/14 and I am down to a size 18 from a 24. It feels great, but I am mostly out of clothes in my closet to wear so I went hunting for some deals on jeans. I have bought some things from the local thrift stores but one of the stores near me was having a 40% off one pair and get the second pair totally free. It brought the cost down to about $13 for a pair of jeans, which is only a few more bucks per pair than my local thrift stores. I went a little crazy and bought pants all the way down to a size 9/10. I have never been smaller than a 14. I was a 14 in high school. Looking at those tiny pants and trying to imagine wearing them is kind of impossible.
For all of you that have gotten to goal - what size did you end up in? Did any of you start in a 24 and end up in a 9/10 or smaller? Is it possible for our bodies to change that much after RNY?

I've been making chicken salads made with Greek yogurt and pulled rotisserie chicken these last couple of weeks. My favorites so far have been a Moroccan chicken salad and a buffalo chicken salad. I found these hummus crackers that have more Protein than a regular cracker and I pile the chicken salad on top of those.
