  1. Try this idea. Find some cheap Water bottles (I recommend the 1 liter smart water bottles) fill them up and tell yourself you have to drink both bottles every day (this is about 66 oz) then its like your Vitamins, you know you need to take them. When you use the bottles you then don't have to guess how much and you are more apt to drink them.....I hope this helps Onyx
  2. It is hard at first! I'm working on it still. The key is to get Protein powders that are plain and use things to make them better. I use Torani sugar free syrups, there are like 30 flavors and you can make a ton of combinations. I had trouble with the shakes at first and the hospital had me on Carnation instant Breakfast and beneprotein. It was awful!!!! But now I make my shakes so it's great! As far as eating....tuna and canned salmon have a lot of protein if you like fish. You will get it I promise Onyx
  3. I got pneumonia after my surgery but it wasn't from the surgery exactly. I got up and began walking when they got me in the room and I did great but in the middle of the night I aspirated. I apparently was coughing up stuff but because I was protecting my surgery I didn't cough hard enough to get it out. I will say that this is the first time that Dr. Lara ever had a patient that this happened to so the chance is very rare. What I stress and they do too is to walk when you come out of surgery as into your room. And walk often in the hospital. You should be fine! I was and am today Onyx
  4. Depends on which surgery. With RNY I was out 4 weeks. My boss had lapband and was out for 2 weeks
  5. Yes I agree to most of the above. Mine is getting used to taking all the Vitamins. I used to only take an Advil here and again, now I have all these vitamins. This isn't a bad thing though. I'd much rather all the vitamins than insulin injections daily which a lot of diabetics have to do. Also feeling a tad awkward with clothes at the moment. Some of my old stuff is too big but I'm not quite small enough to fit into some other stuff I have. Onyx
  6. You guys have some great ideas I haven't even thought of! My oldest brother is getting married next August and I want to buy a beautiful sequened gown for the occasion! Onyx
  7. What helps me is to keep a log of what I'm eating and since it's tough to eat a lot, find things that are really high in Protein so you get all your protein but eat less. Like yesterday I had a lobster tail. It's kinda small but had 35g of protein! Hope that helps hon Onyx
  8. In my book from the hospital it says peanut butter is a good source of protein. I was going to try it in my shake tonight. What do you all think about it? I know it has sugar so I'm uncertain.
  9. Going to the gym was tough for me. I love to swim and the gyms here that are cheap have no pool and I hate the treadmill. Anyway I went yesterday and did more than I thought I would. I think for us "slim impaired" folks it is hard to go to the gym or work out because we rarely saw results before. I have just decided that finding ways to work out is a new adventure. Having doubts is natural but it's just because your mind is telling you you will be depriving yourself and you won't be. Every now and again you will crave something you cant have but it won't last long. You have so much support and do much to look forward to! We have all been through it. ((hugs))) Onyx
  10. I got that card too that says I am allowed. It's kinda neat! I took my bro out to Breakfast the other day and had like 2 bites of an all white omelette...,it didn't play nice but I was only 2.5 weeks out of surgery. Last night and this morning I had lobster tail....now THAT'S a breakfast of champions! Lol Onyx
  11. I am also a coconut lush!! I buy the sugar free coconut Torani syrups and put them in my protein shakes....so dang yummy!!!!
  12. Walked the treadmill for 17 minutes today....I wish exercise was more fun...haha but I will
  13. Welcome Tina! I am about 3 weeks Post op from gastric bypass! There is plenty of info in these forums so let us know what questions you have! Onyx
  14. Bernie its so cool we had our surgery on the same day!! We can Celebrate our new "birthday" together!! Onyx
  15. No I like that I did the bypass. Besides I am probably the world's biggest chocolate fanatic but with all the shakes and chewable vitamins you have to take, it puts a damper on that sweet tooth. I crave non sweet stuff now. I'm sure others will agree.
  16. I want to know....what do you all look forward to when the weight comes off? Here are my top 3. 1. Ride rides at amusement parks especially the scary ones! 2. Ballroom dancing lessons 3. Being healthy to have babies
  17. I agree with everything you said!!! Cheating and overeating is what made me need surgery in the first place. I look forward to all the possibilities of what I can do now and later that have nothing to do with food. I agree if you're already trying to cheat you might be in big trouble later
  18. I lost 15 in the liquid diet for 2 weeks. I lost 30 altogether from my first appt in November 2011
  19. Had my weigh in today and have not lost any weight since last week but I'm not discouraged! More protein and exercise is what I need!
  20. Yay!! Let us know how you are!!! (((hugs))))
  21. My name is Onyx. I am 32 and as of November 2011 I weighed 360 lbs. I started my journey here in Albuquerque, NM but my gastric bypass surgery was done at Del Sol Bariatric Hospital in El Paso, TX on April 23, 2012 by Dr. Michael Lara. I am glad for this online support system. I know when I began the journey I had those for and against the surgery. I am happy to say those who doubted support me now. I did this to be the Lord's testimony. In order to have any of the weight loss surgeries you have to be courageous even when you are terrified. I knew I couldn't do that without God's help. I want to be a support system to anyone in need whether surgery happens or not. It's the hardest decision I ever made but I am happy for a new chance at life. I am happy and blessed to meet all of you and see you online! And I'm praying for everyone's strength and success! I am already among friends! Onyx
  22. It's like any other addiction. You have just told your body once and for all that you aren't feeding it into oblivion and as revenge it's fighting back. Being emotional is normal you just need to put something else in its place that is positive. Reading, praying, working out, chatting with others here and hopefully there are support groups in your area too. Don't worry your body is just in freak out mode but we are all in this together and we will get you through it Onyx
  23. Jen, as far as I know some surgeons request the liquid diet if you are extremely overweight and in other cases not. I was 360lbs when I went in November for my first consultation. He told me then I had to lose 15-20 lbs before surgery. I ended up losing 30. Don't worry if you haven't been asked to go on a diet just don't gain any Onyx
