TonyaA got a reaction from prsist1869 in Surgery a week away, having second thoughts! Help...
I think a lot of people have second thoughts, it's normal, having WLS is a huge personal decision. Some are fortunate to have an amazing support system, others come here and we give you all the support and help we can based on our own experiences. Honestly, I tried the six month doctor supervised diet three or four times before I finally said enough is enough. I have got to do this for me, I was tired of being tired, overweight and sitting on the sideline of my life. I had my surgery on July 24, 2013 and the morning after, I still questioned "what the heck have I done?!" Fast forward to today, two months later and WOW!! I'm 46 lbs lighter, my clothes are 1-2 sizes smaller, I'm off all my meds (I WAS a diabetic) and I feel better than I have in a long time. I have no regrets, except that I didn't do it sooner! I have had NO complications, didn't take the first drop of pain meds post surgery and love to brag about my accomplishments since surgery. As long as you listen to your doctor and nutritionist, you will do fine. I wish you the best!

I had the same thoughts...and almost cancelled the morning of the surgery. I did pretty well on the pre-op diet and I thought if I just kept doing that I would keep losing weight...but then I realized that I had lost weight many times over the years only to gain it back plus some. This was the opportunity to help me keep it off for a change. I ended up having the surgery and was one of the fortunate ones who had absolutely no problems, very little pain, and can eat anything. I still get hungry (I am 3.5 months out) but am able to control what I eat much more easily. I have lost 60 pounds and feel like I have a new lease on life. I exercise now and participate in so much more and my self esteem has soared. This decision is a personal one, and yes there are risks...but the risks of not doing it far outweighed the risks of doing it for me. I was pretty much guaranteed high blood pressure, diabetes and my joints were already starting to bother me...last weekend I ran my first 5k. I know you read a lot of horror stories online and wanted to give you a positive one to think about...but again, you have to do what is best for you...

TonyaA got a reaction from A_ReNUDE_me in I just told my boss! I feel so judged...
I was fortunate that both of my bosses were totally on board with my decision and have been so supportive. One of my bosses is 97 and now that I've lost 45 lbs, he keeps asking how much more I plan to lose! Bless his heart, he has no idea that I'm only a third of the way to my goal! I didn't tell my HR person since I used vacation days for the 8 days I was off. My other boss did tell her and since she had family members who have had the bypass, she thought she knew everything. Overall, it's been a very positive experience for me with lots of support and encouragement.
    Good luck to all!

I too am more or less new to this site and to the sleeved community. I was sleeved on 18 September. The only people I told were my sister and my son. My best friend came with me, so she knows. I've taken a two week vacation from work and go back on 1 October. You are NOT doing a crazy, insane thing. For a lot of us this is a lifesaver of an op. No more medication, money saved in the long term, you will be able to exercise, go on walks, go to the shops - whatever you are not doing just now you will be able to do after your op. Forget about the skinnies of this world. They don't understand. They seem to think that we all get to our size by eating like pigs every moment of the day. No, instead you put on say 7 pounds and think, oh I'll deal with that next year. Next year comes, same thing again. You have a family, money worries, job problems. Wham! Before you know it you've gained 70, 80, 90 pounds. How did that happen?
I'm 61(whoops I never reveal my age) and I've used part of my retiral money to fund my op. Look at my stats and I bet you are nowhere near my weight. Think again of the reasons of why you want to do this op. I am so excited about my future and I have a list of things I want to do and do you know what? Nobody or nothing is going to stop me.

You say he loves you so much and would do anything for you but it doesn't seem like he's doing much by not contributing to your household expenses or your new way of life.
Plus if you don't feel you love him anymore it's probably time to cut your losses and move on.
Life is too short to be unhappy or be around those who are not a positive influence on your life.

Sounds like he enjoyed having someone being dependent on him emotionally, so that she wouldn't really care that he is taking advantage of you financially. What he is doing I wouldn't call love at all. If something doesn't feel right to you, then I would go with your gut instinct on this one. Especially if you don't believe that you even love him anymore. My husband used to sabotage my diets all of the time. He would order pizza, bring home fast food, ice cream, candy, every time I would try to start a new diet. I finally had a sit down with him and asked him if there was some reason why he would do these things when he knew I was trying to get healthier. He had to recognize it in himself that he was worried that if I lost weight that other men might start being interested in me, and then I would leave him. Once we had that talk he got on board, and changed his ways. He even started helping me with my exercise.
I would try having a talk with him over it, give him the benifit

I would love a power washer but my hubby has banned me from them...I don't know something about taking the finish off the house paint or some such BS....then there was the decking but that was NOT my fault! I think he is just a bit party pooper.
I volunteer to come power wash anything you need!

Sleeve of steel here too! I do my best to behave, but occasionally I will "give it a try and see what happens"!! I've only thrown up once, but I think it was do to excessive grease and only a couple of times have I had the overfull filling, which generally subsides after a couple of burps. I was bad today... I had to try some banana pudding, I definitely ate more than I should have, but no issues.

Besides the obvious (being overly fluffy), I had diabetes, high cholesterol, my knees and feet bother me. I'm two months post op and I'm off all my meds, my knees and my feet do not bother me near as much. All this has happened with the loss of just 40 lbs! Oh and now, I get to buy cute SMALLER clothes!!

Hi. I just joined this site :0)
I was approved by my insurance this week (Bluesheild CA PPO).
I have my Pre-op apt this week.
I will hopefully have my Gastric Sleeve surgery in 2wks.
I have been so nervous now that this is becoming a reality and have not slept in nights reading posts. This site has helped a lot so far.
My main concerns are healing, pain, vomiting, and possible leakage, etc.
    I'm in my 30's and weigh 252. I'm 5.3ft
I plan to continue to post followups on this same thread as I go through this, so you can check in :0)
    I'm in Southern CA
    Thank you for your support.

TonyaA reacted to JerseyGirl68 in Have I tried HARD ENOUGH?
Anyone who has not struggled with their weight long term can never really understand, and you can't expect them to. It's like someone who doesn't drink telling an alcoholic to just stop drinking... Only you can answer the question have you tried hard enough or if surgery is right for you. I would not wish another 20 years trying on anyone (I'm 44). This particular surgery was not an option when I was your age (damn, now I feel old writing that)
I didn't opt for the lap bad or bypass years ago, so I don't think "surgery" was my answer. I think THIS surgery was the answer for me. If you want to try on your own again, do it. You can even do it while you are moving forward with plans for surgery. Only you know what is best for you, but you are asking questions and you can't go wrong there!
Best of luck to you in whatever you decide!!

Okay, so after a couple days of contemplating I have solidified my decision for a sleeve instead of the rny and after receiving a copy of some of my preop info and everything was filled out for the sleeve instead of the rny by mistake, I figured I would just go for it. Must've been a sign lol!
