  1. I don't have a pre-op diet either. My doc said I already lost enough during my 6 mos supervised program to shrink my liver. I just can't have anything after mid-night the night before surgery. Yahoo!
  2. I agree with shellqueen. call the psych and ask questions. Sure can't hurt!
  3. I'm being banded on Oct. 5th. I too wonder if I'm doing the right thing. Then I think about how hard I've tried to do this on my own and have failed for years. Well, this is it. This will work. I believe it will and I will work hard to make sure that it does. I'm doing this for me. If for some reason, God forbid, it doesn't work, then I know for sure I"m meant to be fat forever and I will give up. But like I said, this WILL work.
  4. Best of luck to you Mike aka Fish. You will find support here through your entire journey. I know I'm counting on it too!
  5. Where in New England? That is pretty broad. I'm going to Dr. Fiallo in Springfield, MA. That would be western MA.
  6. Hello to everyone, I'm originally a Jersey Girl myself. Born in Trenton, raised in Burlington, and lived in Maple Shade for several years before moving to MA. Best wishes to you all.
  7. If you get your PCP to recommend a surgeon and get an appointment, they will probably direct you to the specialist you will need to see. I know when I had my first surgeon appointment they gave me a list of requirements I needed to meet, and each had a list of participating docs they work with. Don't give up, just plan your next step!
  8. I too agree with Karen, hell you lost 19lbs in 3 months! That is great. I did 22lbs in 4months, and my doc was thrilled. Go figure! The band is so much safer, and like Karen said you will have to work with the band to make it work. And you can lose all you want if you want. Besides, if you lose it fast you could have other issues to deal with. Slow and steady is the way to go. Best of luck and keep us posted.
  9. I'm having my surgery on the 5th and I have the same fears. I'm nervous. But I don't have to do a pre-op diet, I just came back from my pre-op exam with my surgeon. Won't see him again until the day of surgery......this is really gonna happen!!!
  10. Holly, that sounds just too wonderful. I've always wanted to go to Hawaii, but hubby says only if we buy one way tickets!! LOL
  11. I just had my pre-op exam with the surgeon this afternoon. I am all set and all excited! He gave me my post-op instructions and suggestions (need to do a little shopping) and said I don't have to do a pre-op diet, I've already lost the weight needed As I was leaving he said see you early on the 5th!! I have to be at the hospital at 6:00 am. I just can't wait!!
  12. You probably just need a letter from your PCP stating what your BMI and co-morbilities are. That he/she recommends you have the lap-band surgery done. That is what I had to do.
  13. Everyone please keep posting as you progress. I need to know everything! I'm watching you all very closely. I'm nervous to say the least.
  14. Hang in there! We are all here for you!
  15. BIG hugs to bbjerseygirl and mes. I too hope you will keep us posted, I'm not far behind you! bbjerseygirl, where in NJ? I am originally from NJ, born in Trenton and grew up in Burlington.
  16. Melbear, welcome to the Oct. bandsters. I too am having my band surgery on Oct. 5th. I am excited about it. Don't listen to people who call you names. To hell with them. Do this for you and for your children. You will feel better and get your self esteem back. You are beautiful and you need to realize that. Keep posting and I will do the same and we can be band buddies. Best of luck to you.
  17. I'm going Monday Sept. 24th to another support group of people who are interested in the band and who have had the band. I've already been to one and this will be my second. It will be real important since it is just 2 weeks prior to my surgery. I have to pick the brains of the bansters! It's in West Springfield.
  18. What is a good protein to buy and where do I get it?
  19. I too have very long hair. I'm hoping I won't lose it but if I do, then so be it. It's hair. I need to lose the fat more than I need to keep the hair. Besides, if you've read those threads about hairloss, you also read the hair will usually grow back. So not to worry.
  20. I too have been reading the complications about lap-band. But as nervous and scared that I am, nothing compares to the excitement of my finally starting this journey come Oct. 5th. I have waited 40 years for some hope with weight loss. I honestly feel this is it. If this doesn't work, then I was meant to be fat forever and live a short life. But it will work because I want it to work, and I"m willing to work at it to make sure the band becomes my best friend. If I give up, I've only given up on me and given in to obesity.
  21. Wow, we sure do have the list growing! This is great and will help us to keep track of each other. Support is gonna be a big part for me this I already know! I'm counting on all of you!!
  22. I'm in Oct, but I also live in Massachusetts. But hey, I'm going to Maine the last weekend of Sept. Bunch of us going to Wells Beach! Yahoo!
  23. I too am scheduled for Oct. 5th, 2007. I can't wait!! 3 weeks to go!
  24. You've only got a few weeks to go! Best of luck. I get my first band the day after, on the 5th! I'm nervous but so very excited!!
  25. Mike, I too have the same issues, except I'm alittle older than you...hmm. Anyway, my Doc also recommended lap-band. So I looked into it. Now here I am just 3 weeks away from being banded and I can't wait to start my life. I too want to live long, enjoy retirement with my husband and actually see my children have children and so on. I think you are making the right choice.
