2blessed got a reaction from boccob81 in Where are all my May Sleevers?
Checking in.....sleeved may 22 and today down 77lbs. Feel like I've been hovering in the 70's for awhile now tho. No gains, so thankful for that! Only complaint I really have is that I'm still not tolerating meat....of any kind, shape, form or fashion. Havent been on here in awhile so not sure if others have had this problem. My staples seem to be my shakes, yogurt, nuts, and any Soup not containing Pasta or potatoes. Getting all my Vitamins in, and diligent on the Iron since the meat is a no-go. I am having dreaded Hair loss but I've been taking 10, 000 mcg of Biotin daily since a mth before surgery to prepare myself for that. So not too bad. Getting all fluids, bored with my menu, but otherwise feeling and looking GREAT

I'm only 9 wks out but ill try to help. Yes, I think these dietary restrictions 'would' help anyone lose weight. The difference is how long can you follow these restrictions with a whole stomach and plenty of gherlin to boot? Me personally, I've done it ALL. Any diet u can name, I've done it. Low fat, low carb, pills, shakes, supplements, the list goes on. And yes, I lost. But never maintained, because eventually I got HUNGRY, and there was nothing stopping me from eating whatever I wanted to fill up. It was a viscous cycle of diets, hunger, guilt, weight gain, diet again. I'm 52 pounds down now in 9 wks. Not hungry. For once in my life im Eating to live and no longer living to eat.

Look back over all the posts you've made under this username. From the beginning, you've made the choice not go comply with any of your doctor's instructions.
    Alcohol, chips, pizza...
You've been repeatedly advised to get yourself back on track with a low calorie, high Protein diet which you refuse to believe will work. Oddly, it's worked for so many of us who choose to actually do as advised.
You and I had our surgeries at about the same time. You are young, male, and your BMI is higher than mine. You should be at or close to goal by now but you are refusing to follow plan. I know what I'm saying sounds harsh, but it's reality.
No one here can give you better advice than your doctor -- advice you refuse to follow. Only you can decide to make the changes you need to succeed and I hope you do. I know you can.

Hopefully its just a phase. And chicken used to be my staple in life. I could eat it at every meal! I have tried ground meat also, turkey meatloaf, chili...its still a no go. Cant do lunchmeat either. Just seems ALL meat makes me sick.

I'm almost 9 weeks out and cannot tolerate it. I was cleared for fish after wk 1, chicken after wk 3, and pork and beef after 6. So I've had several weeks of attempting it in many different forms. The best way I can describe it is I get a knawing, nauseous feeling when I eat it. Not a satisfying feeling whatsoever and several times its just came back up! Yes its always been moist, I chew and chew to applesauce consistency, and wait between bites. Now its getting to the point of just smelling it or preparing mysef to eat it, makes my mouth Water like I'm going to vomit. This is just REALLY strange to me. Before vsg I was a HUGE meat eater and now I feel like 'wth is wrong with me!?'

I am one of those who lose from the top down. My face was first, then my boobs and arms, then my waist and belly started to go down slowly. Right now I have lost 10" around my belly, but it did take 40 pounds before I could even think about a smaller jean. Don't get discouraged....at some point the fat has to GO!

OMG I would share your frustration...but don't let it derail you...maybe you'll skip 20 altogether and go right to 18...how cool would that be?

As far as I know tylenol is all we can take over the counter. They have it in liquid form for adults too. Far as for sleep, I know I just seen a liquid unisom at Walmart. Not saying we always have to have liquids but for now, it works better for me. I'm only 5 wks out, so vets may have better answers.

Hi dswan. I was sleeved on may 22, and I know what you mean about the vitamins. Ive tried 2 different chewables and 3 different liquids and couldn't keep any of them down. 3 days ago I bought the gummy vitamins, which I found at Vitamin Shoppe and I finally think I've found a keeper! No nausea whatsoever.

Nope. Never happens to me. You are not normal! I am perfect!
OK--that was shameless sarcasm. Sometimes when we're on this message board, we get a lot of the "blah, blah, blah--I am perfect!" messages, such as,"I ate blackened bean curd with a side of Protein goo and I feel fabulous!" Truth be told, I am right there with you. I have those moments (especially during PMS) when my hunger suddenly picks up. I don't know what it is sometimes. 1 day I can barely choke down 2 oz. of meat in one sitting, the next day, I eat 5 oz. easily. Where did my restriction go when 5 oz. was perfect? Not sure.
My only means of fighting it is to get outta the house and log EVERYTHING that goes into my mouth so I can feel guilty about it later. Then I come on this website and brag about my perfection! Hee hee.

I was able to have it 1 week after being home. That's when I was allowed to have soft foods. For me, its been the only thing that doesn't give me pain or belching. I have had mozzarella string cheese, and some slices of sharp cheddar.

There are hormones in fat. It isn't inert. I'm sure there is a science-y person here who can explain this better, but basically your visceral fat around the organs gets mobilized first. This is good because even though it's less visible, it's the most dangerous (says my gastroenterologist); the visceral fat is more hormonal (?) than regular fat, so when you're losing it, it's dumping a stew of stuff into your body. He said lots of Water intake helps, and since your lymph system has to process some of the toxins, he said swimming and walking really help lymph movement. I thought it sounded plausible.

On my first visit to the WLS center I was 307 lbs. and on surgery date May 19th, I was 278 lbs. This morning I weighed in still at 266lbs. This is tough guys! As many people on this forum, there has been up and down days. I too had "wth did I do to myself. I should have just kept dieting, I was doing well" but I now know that wasn't going to last once I introduced food and couldn't stop my mouth eating what my eyes saw in front of them.
I haven't been getting my Protein in, super painful when I drink shakes (even thinned out) and Isopure Protein. I have been getting lots of Water in though. I am at a stall at 266 for the last 6 days. I'm ok with it, hopefully it will start to move. I walk, walk, walk and take in my Vitamins, B12 and Calcium.
I have to admit, puree foods are still not working for me. Such pains in the top half of my chest. I eat slowly, picking up the spoon after a few minutes and I chew anything that is not super smooth. I too had a hernia repair, unbeknown to me. It has made things a little more difficult. Not sure what I'll try next.
