Where are all my May Sleevers?

Checking in.....sleeved may 22 and today down 77lbs. Feel like I've been hovering in the 70's for awhile now tho. No gains, so thankful for that! Only complaint I really have is that I'm still not tolerating meat....of any kind, shape, form or fashion. Havent been on here in awhile so not sure if others have had this problem. My staples seem to be my shakes, yogurt, nuts, and any soup not containing pasta or potatoes. Getting all my vitamins in, and diligent on the iron since the meat is a no-go. I am having dreaded hair loss but I've been taking 10, 000 mcg of biotin daily since a mth before surgery to prepare myself for that. So not too bad. Getting all fluids, bored with my menu, but otherwise feeling and looking GREAT

    gallbladder

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm 10 wks out and my dr put me on actigall after surgery, which I take twice a day everyday. Its suppose to help your gallbladder to 'not need' to come out. I'm wondering if anyone else was on it and still needed surgery? Or if it really works?

    May Sleever Roll Call

Just checkin in...almost 10 wks out and down 54lbs. Still not tolerating a lot of foods especially meat, but otherwse doing well. :-)
  4. I'm only 9 wks out but ill try to help. Yes, I think these dietary restrictions 'would' help anyone lose weight. The difference is how long can you follow these restrictions with a whole stomach and plenty of gherlin to boot? Me personally, I've done it ALL. Any diet u can name, I've done it. Low fat, low carb, pills, shakes, supplements, the list goes on. And yes, I lost. But never maintained, because eventually I got HUNGRY, and there was nothing stopping me from eating whatever I wanted to fill up. It was a viscous cycle of diets, hunger, guilt, weight gain, diet again. I'm 52 pounds down now in 9 wks. Not hungry. For once in my life im Eating to live and no longer living to eat.
  5. I'm almost 9 weeks out and cannot tolerate it. I was cleared for fish after wk 1, chicken after wk 3, and pork and beef after 6. So I've had several weeks of attempting it in many different forms. The best way I can describe it is I get a knawing, nauseous feeling when I eat it. Not a satisfying feeling whatsoever and several times its just came back up! Yes its always been moist, I chew and chew to applesauce consistency, and wait between bites. Now its getting to the point of just smelling it or preparing mysef to eat it, makes my mouth water like I'm going to vomit. This is just REALLY strange to me. Before vsg I was a HUGE meat eater and now I feel like 'wth is wrong with me!?'
  6. Hopefully its just a phase. And chicken used to be my staple in life. I could eat it at every meal! I have tried ground meat also, turkey meatloaf, chili...its still a no go. Cant do lunchmeat either. Just seems ALL meat makes me sick.
  7. Yes! Yes! And Yes! It seems everything for me has flip flopped. I used to be a big meat eater, especially chicken, could have it at every meal. Now, the smell or even thought of meat makes me nauseous. I'm still able to eat 2 or 3 shrimp and keep it down, but all other meats hit my stomach like a lead weight, and usually come right back up. And I've tried every kind in every way possible except fried. I'm only 8 wks out and hoping this gets better. Also Ive now become a fruit lover, before I hated fruit. Same thing with tea. Couldn't stand the smell or taste of it pre-op and now diet snapple is all I crave and can tolerate. My list goes on. I thought it was just me, glad its not

Where are all my May Sleevers?

Sleeved may 22 and down 46lbs as of this morning. I have definitely had my bouts with vomiting and I'm nauseous at least once a day. I was cleared for all foods at 6 wks with the exception of breads, pastas, and rice. But that doesn't seem to matter because I can only tolerate protein shakes ( and I use tolerate loosely), cheese, and yogurt. I've tried every meat in every way possible (not fried) and it makes me sick! Can't do eggs either. I get walking and swimming in occasionally but cannot fairly say I'm actively exercising. Just don't feel I'm getting enough calories in to do that yet. I did have hiatal hernia repair at the time of surgery, and my nutritionist says that may have a lot to do with me not tolerating a lot at this point. Overall, I'm happy with my results. Getting 50-70g of protein in and I'm finally able to get my liquids in also. Taking my vitamins too. And counting down the days to eating somewhat normal again.
  9. Hi jewelj, can please list what you are eating in a day? And I'm kinda confused, was your surgery 8 wks ago or when? What has been your TOTAL loss since surgery?
  10. Same here....huge STRONG coffee drinker. My diet said I could have decaf after surgery, tho after sugery I didn't really have a taste for it. Never really noticed any withdrawals, I guess the pain meds killed any caffeine headaches I may have had post-op. Did try the decaf a few times the first week but didn't care for it. By week 3 I was adding half caff half decaf into the pot. I have noticed I can't drink it nowhere near as strong anymore! Very little will have me jittery like a whole pot used to! Now at week 5 I usually mix like 2 oz of reg coffee into my vanilla shake in the morning, add ice and its like an iced coffee. For now that seems to be all I need to keep me motivated and free of headaches.

    May Sleever Roll Call

May 22. surgery weight was 299 and this morning was 260. Down 39 lbs! No more pain in my knees and back...woohoo! No stalls so far, but on the down side I havent decreased in a pants size yet either :/
  12. Thank you for everyone's input! That actually does give me a new perspective. Lol, I almost feel silly now. YES....they were stretchy. YES...I probably was hitting my maximum capacity in them (._.) But its good to know I'm not alone and that I will indeed put my 22's to rest soon.
  13. Soooo I'm 5 wks post-op tomorrow and 38lbs down. I'm not complaining at all about that. Heck I even skipped the infamous 3 wk stall! BUT....tonight, feeling good about the loss and myself, I decided to try on a smaller size jean. I was in a 22 the day of surgery so I thought surely I can get into a 20 now, right? Wrong!! I tried on 3 different 20's and can't fit a one! Definitely do not want to come off as vane or whiny, just very frustrated! Almost 40 lbs....am I only losing in my wrists and ankles?? I realize every body type is different, but curious has anyone else been thru this?
  14. Thank you Miss Mac, that's my fear I think, that it wont GO... That I will be in onederland one day and still have this HUGE midsection requiring a 22!
  15. Yea, I actually do. My 22's certainly didn't have much growing room! I've just always heard, read, and I guess believed that 7-10 lbs generally contitute a size. Boy, were they wrong!
  16. No, I didn't I need to buy a tape. Surely I've lost inches somewhere, just not where I'd like I guess.
  17. My surgeon said 3 wks. And I have been swimming since 3 wks and 1 day out. Like with every surgeon, it varies I guess.

    What OTCs do you take?

As far as I know tylenol is all we can take over the counter. They have it in liquid form for adults too. Far as for sleep, I know I just seen a liquid unisom at walmart. Not saying we always have to have liquids but for now, it works better for me. I'm only 5 wks out, so vets may have better answers.
  19. I know every NUT is different, but in my handbook they gave me, it say specifically no romaine because of the stalks. And to stick with spinach and the baby greens for salads. I'm only 4 wks out but counting down to my 6 weeks so I can try a salad!
  20. Hi dswan. I was sleeved on may 22, and I know what you mean about the vitamins. Ive tried 2 different chewables and 3 different liquids and couldn't keep any of them down. 3 days ago I bought the gummy vitamins, which I found at Vitamin Shoppe and I finally think I've found a keeper! No nausea whatsoever.
  21. Wow! What is a sample menu like for you on a daily basis? If you don't mind me asking. And how far out are you?
  22. We have the same date =) Don't forget that the fluid in your shakes also counts toward your fluid goal. So does anything like popcicles, Jello, yogurt, etc. Far as the pain, are you taking a PPI? Have you noticed if its specific to when you eat or drink?

    Cheese

I was able to have it 1 week after being home. That's when I was allowed to have soft foods. For me, its been the only thing that doesn't give me pain or belching. I have had mozzarella string cheese, and some slices of sharp cheddar.
  24. Just wondering...most of us have disclosed our fluid and protein intake, but how many calories are you guys getting? Back in 2008 I used to work at a weight loss clinic (go figure) but I did get down to 175 with suppressants, supplements, and a strict 500 calorie diet. It was a high protein low carb, low fat diet. What I noticed and what we would instruct our patients was never ever go under that 500 calories. It seemed to be the magic number that determined weight loss or weight gain! In the beginning, everyone lost huge amounts because it upended our routine but after week 2 if you weren't getting 500 calories, you would stay the same or gain. Over the weekend it hit me when I had 3 days of the same weight and a gain on day 4! My fitness pal was around 400 calories. So I made sure to get over 500 and started losing again. Also, for those excercising, if you consume 700 and burn 400 your're still under 500. I've noticed that on few posts of people excercising there butt off and getting their protein and water, but not losing. Anyway, I'm not an expert. Just a thought.
  25. Sleeved on 5/22 and went in at 299.5, highest weight of my life. This morning I was 275. Thankfully I didn't have the water weight gain but we all have our problems. Maybe it was a trade out for the vomiting blood, and severe spasms due to hernia repair (I didn't know I had). Ill admit day 1-3 I was hating life and was definitely one of the 'OMG what have I done!' people. Today tho is day 12, and each day has gotten a little better. I track EVERYTHING on my fitness pal app and I'm getting at least 60oz of liquid and 60 protein....finally. Still having spasms occasionally and the tightness/bloating nearly every time I eat. I'm guessing from hernia repair. My diet phases seem to be different then most i've seen on here. I went home on full liquids and moved to soft foods after one week. Everything seems to be looking up. I'm starting to get excited about losing weight
