I will tell you it gets so mush easier ! I'm on day 20 and it's only gotten easier since the day I left the hospital. I try new things and I've never vomited , but I will say everyone is different ! Yes Water intake is extremely hard but just try to sip sip sip all day long. You don't want to end up in the hospital because of dehydration.. that will only make you feel worse. And that's super amazing that you've already lost 22lbs!! I've only lost 27 , although I wish for it to be more, my time will come ! I'm here if you need to talk , I love having people to talk to ! I hope you start to feel better and realize that what you did is amazing , and that it will take time !! :-)

Had my sleeve done yesterday at 715 am. By 10 am I was in my hospital room. Doctor said I had a huge hiatal hernia that he had to repair. I truly believe that's where the pain is coming from. I've only had minimal pain (except for the first 3 hours). They actually anticipated I would be in the hospital a few days because of the hernia repair but I went home today. Feeling good and confident.

Well, met with my surgeon for the first time today. She was delightful and optimistic. However, she says I need to lose 10 pounds in two weeks and then she will add me to the schedule for surgery. Was I surprised? No, I've been moderately indulging in the foods that I will miss during my weight loss journey. I haven't gained any or loss any since my last weigh in a month ago.
Therefore, I'm on it!....More miles on my treadmill...cut out the sweets, and curb the carbs....I know what to do....Now, I have to do it!....I love a challenge and I love to prove people wrong....so in 14 days...I will see if I'm SERIOUS about this surgery.
This forum answers so many unknown questions and I appreciate the bold honesty of everyone in here....We all are on a mission and won't stop until the mission is complete....Hang in there!!! Let's Get It!

    Hi Chris,
I'm the same as you, going to my seminar the 25th. Can't wait to get started. I am 65, 1 daughter, 3 grandkids, 13 1/2 great grand kids. My biggest concern was my age, but hey, if I don't do anything, I won't have to worry about age. I am 5'6" and 250. My BMI is 41.3. Hope we can share our journey. Good luck!

Hi, I am sooo new because I haven't even been to my seminar yet. It is scheduled for Feb. 1, 2017. I have been reading some of your posts on here and they are so encouraging. You all really lift each other up. I know I am going to need all of the support I can get. I called our insurance and surgery for the gastric sleeve is covered!!!
My name is Chris, female, I am 62 years old, I weigh 300 lbs and am 5'2" tall. I live in Indiana. We have 3 grown children, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Our kids have been busy. LOL
Initially I was going to get the Lap Band Surgery. I had an appointment with my family doctor Monday. She questioned me about getting the Gastric Sleeve instead of the Lap Band. I asked her why. She told me all about patients of hers that had the Lap Band done and was NOT happy with it at all. They didn't lose the weight they thought they were going to lose, some had problems with it, some were getting the band removed and going for the Gastric Sleeve. So, I did some research on the Gastric Sleeve vs the Lap Band. I am pretty sure the Sleeve is the way to go for me.
I am already nervous and ready to get the ball rolling. How long does it take from the seminar to getting surgery? I am anxious and scared. Probably just like a lot of you all were.
I will keep checking in with you all. Thank you in advance for any and all of your advice and support.
    God Bless!

I stop weighing in a month ago. The results are in the new sizes I wear and the difference in my before and progression pictures. I am not at my goal yet, but eventually I will get there. I feel better and over all health is better. I thank my doctors for the surgery because I had a real hard struggle with losing weight. There has been many bad days but the good has certainly outweighed the bad. Keep pushing and believe in what you want. SW 324 CW IDK but look at the pictures

This made me laugh. So often people want instant results. It is hard work to lose weight and get in shape regardless of having WLS.

I would stay away from sf candy. Most of them have sugar alcohol and to your body, it still processes like sugar. Sugar alcohol makes me crave more sugar. Also, check the fat grams/calories. Often if sugar is removed fat is added for more flavor. It sounds like a slippery slope to me.

I know this has been posted before but I really want to get the word out. I was approved yesterday for two Protein shakes a day, every day, for 11 months. How's that for some math!! Plus my Vitamins, scar reducer, l-glutamine!!! For free through insurance. Apply as soon as you have a date, it takes 2 weeks approval and then they send over for a prescription from your doctor and ship it off. http://www.insurenutrition.com that's it

AB2B reacted to Pazza in Question for the 100+lb losers
Bufflehead had a lot of great things to say, which is pretty normal.
The rules she gave seem fantastic.
I think that cravings take time to change. It is difficult to change them but remember that you will get there. It will get easier. After surgery I craved taco bell. 9 months out now and I don't.
Exercise - I did find it was easier to add more exercise as I lost weight. Start with where you are, be consistent and keep going. There are a lot of helpful resources for adding exercises or changing up your routine. Also, find omething you enjoy that works with your schedule.
Exercise does help with the weight loss but like Bufflehead said, it is important for general health. Keeping that mindset has helped me during my weight loss stalls.
I hope other vets weigh in because I feel a bit silly adding advice. I'm only 9 months out from rny and still have a lot to learn about keeping the weight off long term.
    All the best to you!

AB2B reacted to Bufflehead in Question for the 100+lb losers
@@_bribri1001 I have lost over 200 lbs. I exercised (and still do) 5-6 days per week but honestly it was not for weight loss, it was for overall health. I never counted calories burned or ate extra calories because of exercise. Weight loss happens because of your eating habits, not your exercise habits.
I was incredibly strict with my eating throughout weight loss. I do better when I have rules to follow and don't give myself permission for any variance. My advice -- do not start down the road with "bad" food. Don't buy it, don't eat it, not even a bite here or there. What you can have a bite of now, you can eat a whole package of some months down the road.
My rules (from my bariatric team) for the first six months:
3 meals per day, maximum 3 ounces per meal
No Snacks other than Protein shakes
Maximum 800 calories and 50 carbs per day
Minimum 75 grams of Protein per day
No sweets, no grains, no starchy vegetables, no tropical fruits (bananas, mangos, papayas)
After six months, the rules changed slightly. Meals could be up to 5 oz total, maximum 1100 calories per day, maximum 75 carbs per day, minimum 90 grams of protein per day. Everything else stayed the same.
For me, this program was hardcore but worked perfectly.

AB2B reacted to JamieLogical in Question for the 100+lb losers
I was really strict with sticking to my food stages post op. And I was religious about getting my 100 grams of Protein per day in as soon as I was physically able. I started more intense exercise (more than just walking) at my two month mark. At that point I had managed to get my calories up to about 1100 a day. I was at about 1400 a day for most of my weight loss stage, exercising 5-6 times a week doing running, biking, and strength training.
I was SUPER strict about getting my Protein in, but not too worried about getting too many carbs or anything. Really, just by getting my 100 grams of protein a day, I found I didn't really have room for many carbs. But if my protein came with some carbs (breading or sauce or whatever) I was fine with that.
I made sure to eat on a schedule and I made sure to never eat and drink at the same time. Those are two ways to circumvent the restriction of the sleeve, so I was pretty careful about them. Not eating on a schedule leads to grazing. Eating and drinking at the same time means you can get more food through your sleeve.

I began my journey on November 11, 2016 and quickly completed all my prerequisites. I had my consultation with my surgeon on Monday and sent in my paperwork to the insurance company Tuesday. I got a call Tuesday evening that I was approved and surgery was next week on the 18th!!!!! I'm so suprised how fast this is moving but I can't wait!

AB2B reacted to Babbs in VGS 11/02/16. Lost 66 lbs, regained 30, need help!
I suggest you return you $600 3 and 1 machine and use that money for therapy for your obvious food issues. We all have them. We just have to find ways to work with them and overcome them the best we can. You're struggling, and therapy for you I think would really help you understand why you feel you don't deserve to live a healthy life and want to turn to food for comfort. A therapist or counselor can give you the proper tools to work with, and if you utilize them, it can really help.
That being said, don't panic! All is not lost. You still have that great tool you can work with. Go back to what worked in the beginning, following the "rules" of WLS.
Protein, Protein, protein. This helps with hunger and keeps you fuller longer. At least 90 grams a day.
Fluids, fluids, fluids. No calorie/no calorie fluids to keep things nice and lubricated and moving along. You pee a lot, and it helps with weight loss. Find anything you like that's low/no calories that you can drink. I drink herbal teas, coffee, flavored squirty stuff in my Water to get my 64oz in. And I hate it. But it has to be done.
The best way to kick sweets and carbs like bread, rice and crackers is to just cut them out completely. Period. Sure you're white knuckling it for the first couple weeks, but once you get past the hump, the cravings subside and you almost forget even wanting them.
I eat clean, stay mostly away from processed foods, but I eat as much lean protein (and sometimes not so lean) as I want. I eat butter, full fat cheese, full fat mayo, dressings, bacon, etc. The payoff for not eating sweets and white carbs often is eating this way, and it keeps me satisfied and I don't feel like I'm being deprived. You should try it.
We can't find the motivation for you, but we can help by giving you suggestions for success. There's mine.
    Good Luck!
