I physically cannot eat and drink at the same time. When I do, I immediately get nauseated. Some people can eat and drink at the same time, some can't. My best advice to you is to always follow your surgeons instructions, no matter how silly or unneeded you might think they are. They are there to keep you from hurting yourself and your new stomach!

JourneyToLife got a reaction from gourmetone in What was your breaking point?
My breaking point was when I found myself unable to climb the 18 steps up to my apartment without being so winded. And every night when I lay down in my bed my palpitations were very uncomfortable and were increasing as my weight was piling on. Also, when I go out some where I have to wear something black especially my tops. They have to be big enough to be baggy so as to hide my pregnant-looking belly. I had been having a harder time finding those shirts in my closet and would go out and buy more.
I want this excess weight off of me forever… I am so tired of being tired and ready to live my life the way it was meant to be lived... No more physical restrictions of climbing stairs, putting my socks and shoes on w/o hurting and having my belly obstruct me from doing so… and being able to reach my butt when I go to the bathroom first thing in the morning w/o back pain!!!
(TMI) I know and don’t care at this moment… I am so mad at myself for letting my emotions and food dictate my life…I am writing this out of sheer desperation to be understood…Who else feels this way?
On the calmer-side of me my surgery isn’t till September 25th, my hubby and I are eating prepared foods that are 500 mg of sodium (give or take) for dinner at night. I eat small portions throughout the day and will be doing my Protein Shakes starting next week Monday the 2nd, one week extra than required to give my body more time for adjustment. I know after the surgery I will be on liquids for about 3 days, then moving on to pureed providing I can tolerate it. If not then I will go back to liquids.
I am 42 years old and have been overweight-obese for a combined 24 years and if I wind up having saggy and baggy skin when I reach my goal, so be it. I don’t care as long as I can live healthier and longer without any physical limitations it will all be worth it in the end.

JourneyToLife got a reaction from Jerzygurl in Why did u choose sleeve not the band ?
Like you, I had been researching the difference between the sleeve and the band. I have had the sleeve for 3 months now and it is a God's send!!! I cannot stuff myself like I used to before and if I do, I am very uncomfortable!!! I have stuffed myself a few more times since then but, I am getting better at understanding when I'm thirsty or hungry. Your stomach doesn't growl like it used to (at least mine doesn't) because that hormone Ghrelin is no longer there to tell you your hungry. It's a learning process but, one that gets better as time passes by...

JourneyToLife got a reaction from gamergirl in I'm having a bit of a tough time
    Hello GameGirl,
I am glad to see that you and I are feeling the same way... My advise to you for all of this is quite simple... Just don't worry about it... Keep on keeping on and learn to love your new self as you change whether it's slower than you want... Keep getting in your Protein first and keep hydrated... It is a new lifestyle for us and we have to just go with it... Like with any new toy, the fascination wears off... Focus on yourself and why you have decided to change your lifestyle... And think if you never had the sleeve done, you would be miserable because of the excess weight you're carrying around... Let's be happy we get to live another day thinner and healthier than we were in the past... I am everything you described I just choose not to let it bother me and be grateful for my health...

    OMG
was that you last night making that sound???
i am sorry your tummy hurts - luckily i didn't have that issue
hiccuping et al is verrrrrry common post op
the first few weeks i was shocked/loud about my hiccups
it slowed down considerably within a couple of months
but at 2 years it does happen if a eat a teeeeeeny bite more than i should
you might hear that some other people get runny noses
i never understood that one, but it happens, just like the hiccupping
    this too shall pass!!!!
I just realized you are a newbie at 4 days PO
not being able to drink that much Water happens
it can be hard to drink
but you gotta push the fluids to stay hydrated
fluids at this early stage is even more important than Protein (Protein will come later, soon)
take slow sips, sip and sip some more
warm/room temperature Water works for many
things do get better one day at a time!!!!
"god grant me patience, just hurry up about it "
continue to feel better while you enjoy the wonderful ride to a healthier, happier, longer life
    good luck
    kathy

After 7 years of researching this surgery, I settled on the Sleeve because it best fit my needs. When I first started going to the seminars, the sleeve was not being offered and the RNY and band seemed so invasive that it scared me so I just waited. When I started reading about the sleeve and the success people were having, I knew it was for me. My surgeon has done all of the surgeries but just recently has become very reluctant to do the band. She stated that of all the surgeries she has done, only the band has offered complications and some of those were several years out. She really didn't say anything positive about the band in our meeting so I know she was steering me away from that particular surgery. Do your research and see what works for you, along with your Doctor's input. Everyone is different and so are their experiences. Good luck in what ever you choose. I've not had my surgery yet but will be in February. Can't wait to get my sleeve.

I am working hard to get where you're at. I feel tons better already but I feel the real gains are still ahead of me. I'm glad there are guys like you here posting about your success. There are not enough men on this forum, and even fewer who have made it all the way like you have. It gives the rest of us guys the motivation to keep moving forward.
But I would like to add, that old saying about a man gains an inch for every thirty pounds he loses....well, I've lost damn near one hundred pounds and.....apparently, it's true.

I have always had a very large "apron" & it's not shrinking much, but it's also not hanging down any further, yet any way. It is flatter. I don't really know what size pants I wore or wear now as I've made my own for years, but they are definitely looser & I've had to take 7 or so inches of elastic out of the waist recently to keep them from falling down.

I think I'm going to wait till Tuesday at my 2 week check up to see what doctor recommends me to do besides walking. This is major surgery and you don't want to push yourself. I have days where I'm still tired and days when I feel energized. Just don't need to over do it when feeling energized this early in the game.
