I've read it's normal to gain weight a few years after surgery. I was very aware of that and always kept it in mind so I wouldn't do it. I'd maintained and done great until this past year. I've gained about 15lbs. Because I was very anemic. Family and friends pressured me to eat more. Now i feel like my stomach has stretched. I crave more food and feel hungry faster. I can't seem to get back on track. So I read in a blog somewhere about a 10 day pouch reset diet. (Very similar to post- op surgery diet.) Hope it helps me get back on track and lose what I've gained. I'm on day 3... praying it works!!

I am 4 years post op. I only told a hand full of friends and family. I have no regrets! I've seen a few of my friends that have been open about it and the judgement that comes with it is too much for me. People are always saying that they took the easy way out. Or they cheated. And that is so far from the truth. I worked out 2x a day and worked very hard to stay on track. Lots of sweat and tears. So I'm not giving them the power to take away my hard earned accomplishments. I've worked very hard to lose and maintain my weightloss. Its non off their business anyway!

Stop beating yourself up over this - it's not failure when you fall down, it's failure when you don't get back up after falling. I'm willing to bet every person on this board has had their moments, I sure have.
Get yourself on MFP, get an accountability partner, and get back on track!

The only food that I ever had problems with was eggs. It took a month or so before they didn't make me nauseous. Other than that, I haven't had a problem with any food. Since you are getting food at 4 weeks, I would suggest softer foods like steamed chicken or fish. No heavy sauces or pastas (I don't eat any white foods at all) no fibrous vegetables and minimal starches. Go slow, chew well, Proteins first. Remember the drinking rules.

I am 14days post op. I have no appetite. I have rumblings, gas and feelings that resemble hunger but if I take an anti-acid it reduces that feeling. It is a lot easier after surgery. I think that the hardest is the mental part. I want to eat just because I know that its delicious and my mind is telling me I want it. Its not physical at all! I actually drink Water and Protein Shakes but its hard to get them down. Taste buds change too. Nothing to me tastes the same.

Mine is monday too! I'm on an emotional roller-coaster! This is what I've wanted for so long but I'm scared that this will all be for nothing and I will lose a few pounds and gain it all back! I can't help but have the negative thoughts come back and haunt me. I think its normal for us to have fears.

I start my liquid diet today too. I have had the same fears as you! But someone here said to me that my attitude on how I approach this pre op diet had a lot to do with how I did this week. So my mind set changed. I now see this as a challenge to prep me for what is coming post op. Dont think of everything you can't have... think of your goal (which is to loose all the excess weight). It's definitely going to be hard and a test. But we can do this!!! Good luck!

ready2inspire got a reaction from kailie in The future.. What if im still "lazy"
I love this site because so many of the fears I have other people have too. Its like someone is in my head. On that note I ask myself the same thing. I have been on a excercise schedule before. So why do I feel this way? Probably because of my history with diets... always start off strong and then I fizz out. The difference now is that we are going to have this extra tool to keep the weight off. So your motivation will always be there! Once we see the results being more permanent we are not going to want to go back to the lazy days!

I am still pre-op, getting all the appointments in to satisfy the insurance...........I have told my sister (who had an RNY) and my husband......I don't have children, and I haven't told the rest of the family, because I saw how "supportive" they were when she had her surgery.........right now don't have any plans to tell anyone at this point, but that could change........if it would help someone, then I would.
I have found when there is a major change in someone's life, people tend to focus on that, and I'd rather not have to defend my actions or have them focus on this...........good luck!

I feel the same way! I'm all full of emotions. Somedays I'm excited and ready to do it. Other days I'm nervous and anxious! I think its normal. I have a love/hate relationship with food. So I'm scared on how that dynamic will change.

Do what you can. Exercise everyday and eat as healthy as possible (obviously). Drink tons of Water and make your portion sizes smaller. If you really really stick to that there is no way you wont be able to lose more weight. 15 lbs? I'm not sure but as long as you show you are trying your hardest your doctor should work with you. I'm also in nursing school and just got done taking a nutrition class. Write down EVERYTHING you eat, and make a small note next to everything you eat stating what kind of mood you were in. My nutritionist told me to do it and it's crazy how much emotional eating I was doing!!
Good luck with your weight loss!!
Well said Butterthebean. I got teary eyed reading that. Congratulations on your weight loss and it is so good to hear that, especially from someone with experience!

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I work with many nutritionist and I know that I would get an ear full of why they think I shouldn't do it. Specially since I've already lost 30lbs on my own. I've heard the conversations they've had about other people that have had surgery. I don't want to be the talk of the work place. Plus everyone judges without knowing what its like. Thanks guys! This makes me feel so much better. Surgery date june 3rd! Can't wait!

IS ANYONE EMBARRASSED TO TELL PEOPLE YOU ARE HAVING THE SURGERY? I WORK WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE AND HAVEN'T TOLD ANYONE. I HAVEN'T EVEN TOLD ALL MY SISTERS OR MY BEST FRIEND. I GUESS I'M A LITTLE EMBARRASSED AND ALSO DONT WANT EVERYONES OPINION OF WHETHER I SHOULD DO IT OR NOT. I ALMOST FEEL LIKE IM HIDING THIS HUGE BAD SECRET.

I was just having this convo with my husband. I really don't feel like explaining to everyone who asks me how I lost all the weight (down the road) all my personal business. I can't stand lying either. However, I have been very honest with my family and trusted friends, but random people don't need to know.

3 1/2 yrs ago I was banded. I told everybody, including my mailman! This time (awaiting sleeve revision due to a slip), I made the mistake of telling my family and best friend. They all think that wls is too severe for having 30 lbs to lose and that I should do it on my own. I tried that for 40 yrs, didn't work for me.I do think that GB is too severe for 30 lbs and they don't see a difference. To non-wls'ers, wls is all gastric bypass or "stomach stapling".
I wish I had just kept it a secret. A few friends also know, but it's hard to describe what you're doing. Good luck!
