mamamareli got a reaction from anniemay in 3 weeks out eating about 1200 cal/day
Just curious how many of you actually think 1200 cals a day is too many for a healthy weight loss diet. I just think going too low is asking to screw up your metabolism. A 1200 calorie weight loss diet is totally normal, even low, for an active woman who has not had this surgery. If I am willing to lose a little slower than average, what's the problem? Maybe Ill save myself some skin issues, wont loss my hair, won't feel deprived, etc.
Idk, I just have a hard time with the whole 500 calories a day thing. That is a starvation diet. I did this surgery to improve my health. My BP is lower already, I've been losing.
But I do appreciate the comments. I'm trying to assess what others are doing and figure out what's best for me. I admit, I do need to slow down and practice the 30-30 rule better. But I still think 800-900 cals is as low as I'm willing to go.
Again, thanks to everyone who commented.

thanks everyone. I have been following post on the forum since I started the process. If the story of my success up to this point helps one person I will be happy.
@Aries riding my bike has been the greatest thing assisting me. Not only have I saved a ton of money on gas I feel amazing afterwards. I do not ride any longer for just exercise, I find in therapeutic.

mamamareli got a reaction from makemyownluck in stalled and overly emotional. aka - it's been a rough week
I'm in the same boat as you-- weight wise. I lost 13 preop, 12 since surg on 5/8, nothing hit past week or so! Don't get discouraged! It's still so early, we will lose the weight. How could we not with how little we are consuming?
Lets make a pact to put our scales away, weigh only once a week, and enjoy the NSVs. I'm thrilled to feel more in control of my food intake and have fewer cravings.
    Don't worry, we got this!!!
PS: your profile pic suggests you are a beautiful, positive, happy girl! Be proud of yourself for starting this journey!

mamamareli reacted to rewind in I just want to eat
BloomingFaith.... I think my biggest problem has been eating too fast, and the bites of food have been too big as well. Those first weeks were hard. For decades I ate what I wanted, when I wanted....and surgery does not cure an eating disorder. So I resisted foods I could have. Don't care for egg salad, cottage cheese, beans....so tried to find other foods I could tolerate. I stayed close to recommendations, maybe straying slightly.
When I was cleared for soft foods, I quickly found disappointment. More of the same junk....so I bought Soups and stews and pulsed them for a mili-second so they were not pureed. Quiche was my friend. I have always been a FAST eater and my self-discipline failed me. I learned the hard way, that pressure in the chest meant, "STOP EATING IMMEDIATELY". I thought it meant I was at a new stage and that was a normal feeling, so kept eating another small bite or two.... WRONG!! So a few trips to the bathroom and I finally learned. But I still kept screwing up....
For me, the eagerness to finally eat real food has been a challenge. Sooo happy to have something normal, continued me on the track to fast eating and throwing up. Always remember, when you feel a sensation, ie; pain in chest, salivating, burping..... stop eating immediately. If I start spitting, it's coming up. If you don't remember this, you will likely throw up. It's the mental piece that is hard. You can have the food.... you want the food.... you deserve the food.... but you may need to also remember you can have it later.
Now, three months out, I am doing better (no throwing up today!) because I pull up the stop watch on my phone and eat a tiny bite every minute ...sometimes waiting two or three minutes. I may leave half of my meal in another room....go to the bathroom....let the cat out.... to kill time because the timer has to be over 20 minutes when I am finished eating. If I sit with the whole meal in front of me, I am tempting fate in a bad way.
This whole experience is a huge drill in self-discipline.
Thanks for understanding the Dorito episode. I just had to have them. And honestly, I feel for me it was the right decision. I was two weeks out, and did not want to binge. But that behavior satisfied me, right or wrong, and I got passed it and survived. Many have not agreed, but this is surely an individual journey.
Good luck to you.... and ask all your questions. This is a good site with lots of caring people.

Why shouldn't you feel good? I can understand being sore or some discomfort after but your not sick, most of us are probably pretty healthy the day of surgery. And mentally, which plays a part, this is one of the best days of our lives. So yeah feeling good should be normal, just my thought

I told everyone the truth. I knew there would be questions if I didn't and I've always tried to be open. I had my surgery on May 1st. Before surgery, people approached me and tried to talk me out of it. They did it out of concern. I talked with them and explained my reasons for having the surgery. They supported me. Now that I have had the surgery, there are people who want to have the surgery, but are afraid, coming to me to talk about it. Then there are those that say the most unbelievable things. I just tell them, this is my life, my decision and my journey. I don't know how it is going to turn out, but I would love their support and encouragement. I am 51 years old. I only wish I would have done this sooner. They seem to choose to support me. I can use all the support I can get.

Is this possible? I was sleeved on Wednesday morning. In the hospital I felt sore and worn out, but used a lot of pain meds and managed well. I came home yesterday evening and decided not to take any more narcotics because they were keeping me from passing gas, which was uncomfortable. But I feel great today! I'm NOT complaining, just wondering if this is some kind of pain free honeymoon and if better get ready to
Feel rough again soon. I have walked a lot and my surgeon used the On-Q pump, which is still in
My stomach delivering local anesthetic for incisional pain. Anyway, I am super happy with recovery so far, just a little surprised. Anyone else have this experience? Or anyone feel good early on then worse as days went by? Just trying to gauge my experience. I know it's different for everyone, but I'm still curious.

So what's your point of responding to this post? Simple to call others liars.. Because that's what you think? Is that a necessary response for what reason? Just to feel better about ourself? Your name calling serves no purpose whatsoever
