Eating and Drinking At the Same Time (Post-Op)
my doc and nutritionist said that we should not have any liquid 30 minutes before and 1 hour after meals. i would assume that means milk with cereal. my hubby is six weeks post op and only now are they telling him that he can even have any carbs in his diet. But every doc is different. Good Luck

Hawaii pre & post bansters
Hi Kathleen, I sent you a PM, hope you got it. What I do to get enough protein is to double up on my protein powder, I put in 2 scoops in 8 oz of milk, instead of 1, then that way I get approx 36 grams of protein. Good Luck on your journey, sounds like you are doing great!!!!

Hawaii pre & post bansters
we have used the whey protein from the vitamin store, and also some from the GNC. Both are good, but we got the better deal at the vitamin store. I use 2 scoops in 1 cup of skim milk. I guess you could use water, which is the recommmend liquid, but I can't get past the taste of the whey when I just mix it with water, so I use the skim milk. I need the calcium anyway. Good Luck

Anyone experience thinning hair?
I haven't been banded yet, but I did talk to my hairdresser earlier and she said that if I made sure I had enough protein and massaged my scalp I would be OK. I am on a preop diet and have been taking protein shakes and my hair hasn't looked better. One thing I have found is that if you are having trouble taking in all of your protein, when you mix your protein shakes, just double the scoops in your water or milk and that way you still take in the same amount of liquid but double your protein. Good Luck on your journey. Take care.

Well ladies, my hubby and I live on Kauai, so we will not be seeing you at the support groups although it would be nice. They are wanting dave to start one here on Kauai, which he probably will do after my surgery. Good luck to both of you on Wednesday. I am soooooo excited for you. Good Luck, and remember to walk and sip.

For ladies only please....
I knew it., knowing my luck, I am one of those that would need a pubic lift. Who would have know that there was such a thing. But.... at least there is such a thing. as long as the pubic skin, doesn't hang past my skirt, I guess it would be manageable. LOL, thanks ladies..

For ladies only please....
Aloha Ladies, I have a kind of personal question? I know as we all have gotten bigger, so have all kinds of places on our bodies, and there are solutions to fixing these particular areas afterward, like tummy tucks and boob jobs, but what about our .."pubic mounds"? If you know what I mean. As I have gotten bigger so has that, and what happens to it after we lose weight? Does it get smaller too? Does the skin shrink back to normal size? Or does it stay stretched out like our tummies, and if it does, OH MY GOSH what does it look like later after weight loss. Please help, the thought of what it might look like after weight loss, and if it doesn't shrink scares me. What a sight it must be.

Probably not the place to say it but...
Wow, i am excited for you, the only thing I worry about is that, are they going to expect you to be able to help transfer patients or lift them, or anything of that sort. Nurses do work hard, and if they aren't aware of your situation, and you don't want to tell them, it could be a problem. I hope all works out well for you, good luck !!!

Surgery Date Set
Good Luck Holmmi, I am so excited for you. I get banded Aug 29th, so keep us posted on your progress.

not losing much
8 lbs. in one week? that is awesome !!!!! you should be patting yourself on your back. You are doing great !!!!!!!Keep up the good work.
-
not losing much
you never said, how long you have been on the optifast. But just remember any loss, is still a loss. You are walking a lot, so maybe you are gaining some muscle so the weight loss is not showing up as much. Don't worry, if you are following your diet, all will be good. Good Luck on your surgery.

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
He (the doctor) just said liquid. So I guess its anything that is liquid at room temperature. But as I said this is for the few days just before surgery. Previous to this we were put on a modified diet. mostly protein and veggies, very little carbs, and I don't know how much fat, but I am sure it wasn't much. I am to be banded on August 28th and we both have been doing this diet since June 15th. I have lost 6 lbs in 3 weeks and my hubby has lost 14 lbs. Good Luck to all.
