  1. I have a question related to this topic. When there is a reference to a certain amount of ounces one can eat based on their sleeve size or the amount recommended by their doc.... Is the reference in ounces of volume or weight???
  2. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I am going to ask my Surgeon about putting me on it at my first po office appointment. I will be about 2 weeks out then. Anything is worth it in my book if it will help prevent a repeat visit to the OR to remove the gallbladder.
  3. the "new Mommy" will become the old Mommy... Art, have you learned nothing in man's struggle to understand the fairer sex.......you never say "old"......
  4. Probably the air you're taking in with each sip. It will ease up as your stomach swelling goes down and you pass more of the gas.
  5. I believe that while under anesthesia they need to be able to see the color of your nails to determine the saturation of Oxygen during surgery.
  6. Tomato - tomahtoe.....I looked into all of them and settled on a Blendtec. Great blender. Does everything. Longest warranty. Cost more than Ninja, less than Vitamix. Uses a design with dull blades which accomplish the same blending but never need replacing like ones that are sharp. Whatever floats your boat.
  7. My buddy came over the other day and the first thing he said is "Hmmmm, you look the same. After taking eight months of prep and all the hospital stuff, I figured you'd look all sickly and in agony" Ya know, that's my feelings too. I think it's all a scam. the so-called "hole-scars" are burn marks. The shakes are meds to make us feel full and gassy. Our spouses are in on it too. They put drops of that stuff to make you puke in all the food over 3 bites. They cater to you so you'll feel needy & whinny. It's just a sham. There was no surgery. Yea......that's the ticket.....you can't fool me. Then again......maybe not.
  8. I went on full liquids upon leaving the hospital and was able to easily take my meds without crushing anything.
  9. Well, I was on unlimited clears for the couple of days in the hospital. Then full liquids for the next two weeks. In the last couple of days, I have managed to get in about 80 grams of Protein and 75 or so ounces of liquids. I just take it in small sips. Basically, I figure it just goes straight thru. Urine is barely tinted yellow, so I'm stayin hydrated pretty good. I think you might have misunderstood your doc. 1 ounce an hour sounds grossly inadequate. You could easily end up dehydrated. I would suggest double check those figures.
  10. Sounds like you and I pretty much have had the same experience. No back pain though, but I did a lot of walking.
  11. Very sharp long lasting pain in my abdomen. Took a good five minutes to subside. Switched to sipping and allowing time interval and all was well from then on.
  12. Well, I'm back. Kinda surreal how quick it was over and I'm back home. Had to have a hietal hernia and a umbilical hernia repaired as well. The surgeon said the belly button one would probably hurt the most afterwards. It does. Was in the hospital for two nights, three days. Clears while in lockup and advanced to full liquids coming home. The hospital was the best I'd ever been to. Everyone was great and things couldn't have gone more smoothly. I had no luck with the gas though, and everyone here was dead on right about gas discomfort. I was only able to eliminate a significant amount just a little while ago. How do you spell relief???? G-A-S release.....!!! I also blew it on that first gulp....yeah, I said gulp of Water after the op. I have now engraved "SIP" in my brain. Been sipping non-stop ever since. Well, just want to follow up.....Not much pain, things seem to be moving along pretty good. Just trying to follow the mantra I gathered here. Can't wait to start scoring some points on the loser's bench.
  13. Didn't even need the alarm. It's 5:00am and I sprung outa bed. I think I scrubbed a layer of skin off in the shower too. Strange how anxious I am to rush to the pain and misery. Ironically, even after two weeks of liquids only, I'm not the least bit hungry. Now thirsty is another matter. This no Water after midnight stuff sucks. Well, top of the morning to y'all. As Arnie's says......"I'll be back".
  14. Stop lyin.......your're lovin it. That's what guys do. And that's what women dress for. Yeah, I know, it's all about the health, and eating right.....yada yada yada. You want to be looked at. We all do. Enjoy it. You earned it.
  15. I guess it depends. I'm taking aspirin right up till surgery day and resuming as soon as they confirm no bleeding. Of course mine is based on my Cardiologist's orders.
  16. Hey, after that drum roll......and no pics. Cmon, You ain't in middleschool anymore.....let's see pics.
  17. Well, it's finally down to just a wake-up. This time tomorrow I should have 5 holes in my belly. I've been through surgeries before and now I'm just ready to get the show on the road. See you guys on the loser's bench.
  18. Sounds very specific. You should make an appointment with a Urologist. Maybe a trip to the ER is in order.
  19. I have these jeans I've kept forever. When they fasten and I can squat in them easily......I'm there.
  20. Popsicles.....!!! I forgot popsicles.......gotta go.!! I'm headed back to the store.
  21. A CARD......that's it. Hey, When you get on the other side of this thing......you owe him big time.
  22. Check with your Surgeon's office. Maybe there is a support group for WLS patients in your area. I went to one a few months back just to check it out before my surgery. ( I ended up being the only guy there) Just a thought.
  23. Surgery in three days. So I decided to head to the grocery store an stock up. I had already been to costco and got a couple case of Premier Protein and a bunch of Soup. Well, I went to two different stores and came home with only those squirt flavoring things for Water. That's it. I walked every isle and nothing. I guess the silver lining is, I'll save a bunch on buying food. I already emptied the kitchen of any and all "not good for me foods" (which means everything). I ordered a tub of unflavored protein mix, but there's nothing to mix it with. So, all I have now in the kitchen & fridge is shakes, water and........no and..... that's it. Boy, this is gonna be tough.
  24. My experiences were almost exactly the same but not post surgery. I'm also a nite owl and even when I knew it was too late to be eating, I did. And I could almost guarantee the event and that horrible taste in my throat. Then I would end up staying up till almost morning to avoid a repeat. Did I stop eating so late, NO. I ended up using a foam wedge in the bed to prop me up to avoid regurgitating. Since starting pre-op diet this has not occured. After your post I will definitely be avoiding the late night meals post- surgery as well. Thanks.
  25. Drink more Water . Dehydration can cause headaches.
