So thankful for all of your posts. I was sleeved on May 21st and am experiencing terrible back pain and still very sensitive to get up and down when sitting. I keep reading people who were sleeved the same day as I was and say they are having no pain. Thankful to know I am not the only one! Another reason why we shouldn't compare our journey to others...but was getting concerned that something may be wrong!

thebabycakes reacted to May142013 in Feel good still weak
Hi everyone! I'm 16 days out and was so weak that I could barely function. The doc just told me to be patient, that some people just take longer to heal. Well, today I had an appointment with my NUT and she knew the problem as soon as she saw my food logs. I was so focused on getting my Protein and liquids in, that I was not getting enough carbs to give me energy. She said that this was probably the only time I would hear this from her EVER, but told me into increase my carbs. She suggested I try to hit 50 grams a day and said I would notice a huge change. She made me eat a graham cracker and drink a cup of skim milk before heading home, because I was so shaky. The differnce in how I feel tonight is unreal! I have energy again! I was so obsessed with drinking a low (no) carb Protein Drink, that I was only getting 15-20 carbs a day.
So.....just some food for thought for those of you who are weak after surgery.

I am a week out today!!!! I stayed 2 nights in the hospital and have felt great since I have been home. Getting fluids in and Protein, but when I get up and take a shower, do my hair and makeup I am shaky and weak after. Is it normal to still feel weak a week post op? I need to get my strength back so I can head back to work in a week.

I did cook for my husband last night but it was things I was not even tempted to eat. The only time I have cheated so far is a couple bites of a cookie. I find that this is just "eye hunger" or "head hunger" and actually getting in all of my puree and Water is a full time job!

I'm almost two weeks out and I've cooked nothing. Yikes! Mr. Lipstick cooked on the grill most nights and when he wasn't home, I put out all the fixings for make your own:
salad night
Baked potato night
pizza night (I buy dough, they decorate, I bake)
Sub sandwich night
And of course, rotisserie chicken from Sam's is a weekly staple, leftovers used for salad bar night.

I second the gum. Or Listerine breath strips. Or make the little brats cook for themselves. You gave them life, now they want food, too? Ha!

This is going to be something we will all have to work hard on getting over. You're just so lucky that you haven't had any tummy issues with the bites here & there. Forgive yourself & move on. Don't get caught in that cycle again, you took such a drastic step to help yourself, why sabotage yourself post sleeve?
In fact, I just got up from my computer & went to my pantry where I have a bunch of junk my kids eat & I was looking at what I could have. Am I hungry? NO! In fact, I'm full! But it's probably nothing more than habit ~ so I shut the pantry door & walked away saying out loud "you've got to stop this NOW!" Lets hope I listen to myself the next time I do that!
Can you attend a support group meeting? That's what I"m going to have to do...weekly if not more!

No matter what, you can't go back to eating the bag of whatever, I couldn't tolerate alot after my surgery but I didn't stop sampling. Its still all about calories in and calories out. Your stomach is so much smaller so the calories will always be less and remember you will fill up faster so go slow. Just watch the calories and quantity and don't overeat!

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond. I definitely need to find some sort of support groups in my area. Unfortunately my surgeon and the web of support group systems is an hour away, so I'm starting brand new in finding something close to where I live. I have to say though that this website app on my phone has been very helpful I'm glad it's here.
